Presenter

12:30 P 3:45 P

Post Extraction Management Dr. Samuel Hunter This course is designed to train the student in the area of proper management of Shea butter in the period after extraction. We now know that quality deterioration occurs rapidly in the first few months after extraction. Studies at ASBI revealed that as much as 90% of Shea butter leaving Africa is grade D. These studies revealed a marked deterioration in quality occurring within the first 3 months after extraction. The main cause for deterioration was improper or inadequate post extraction management. Unfortunately, throughout the Shea belt, little if any, attention is given to proper management of high quality Shea butter once the extraction process is completed. The 2012 ISBC training course in Post Extraction Management addresses this problem in comprehensive detail.

Samuel Hunter, PhD President, American Shea Butter Institute
