Vision Sports is proud to announce that it was recently recognized at the Missouri Broadcasters

Association as the winner of the 2015 Top Play By Play Broadcast (for large markets in Missouri). This

award is the 13th time in its 18 years of broadcasting Blue Springs and Blue Springs South High

School Football on 1030 AM KCWJ, that Vision Sports has received this prestigious award. The award

winning broadcast was the Blue Springs High School vs. Rockhurst High School playoff game. Vision

Sports is owned and operated by Tony Wrisinger and Brian Johnson. Dale Carter and Tim Crone

were the on-air team broadcasting the award winning selection. Vision Sports will begin its 19th season of

Mark Whitlow, Office Products Alliance, met with of the Missouri Congressional delegation to

discuss the most critical issues impacting the small business community. He asked for their support for

legislation that levels the playing field for small businesses which included small businesses enjoying the

same economics of scale in the healthcare market that large corporations do. Small businesses should not

be locked out of competition due to a procurement system that is not designed for the government

market. Small businesses should not shoulder the tax burden while others are receiving tax breaks, and

close loopholes that allow big box retailers to use veteran and minority owned businesses as fronts to

obtain government contracts.

Blue Springs Hy-Vee Food & Drug Store Produce Manager, Kevin Thalken, is a recipient of the

2015 Retail Produce Management Award. Winners are selected for their excellence in merchandising,

displays and promotions, and their commitment to customer satisfaction.

Every Tuesday until the end of Summer from 9am to 11am, the Farmer’s Market has returned to St.

Mary’s Medical Center. They offer fresh garden produce, debit cards and cash are accepted.

It's a great time to be in the Chamber's young

professional networking group: genbluesprings. Things

got sweet this past month when the group met at Gigi's

Cupcakes for the monthly BYOBreakfast meeting. The

soggy weather didn't stop us from having a terrific time

hanging out at Centerline Beach Volleyball & Pavilion.

Together with the Independence Chamber of Commerce, we revved up the fun at Blue Springs

Ford's Happy Hour social event. Overall, a wonderful start to summer!

genbluesprings is looking to grow. If you want to join in our networking, community service, or

social events, we welcome you! This invitation is open to all members: whether you are a

business owner or employee. We hope to see you at the next genbluesprings BYOBreakfast on

Tuesday, July 7 at Gaumats International LLC (1251 NW Granite Drive, Grain Valley, MO). We

also are planning to have a Happy Hour at Clancy's Café & Pub (800 NW South Outer Road) in

July (details coming soon) and are preparing our 2nd Annual Speed Networking Event in

September. Cheers to a Happy Independence Day!

The Program

Leadership Blue Springs was established in 1991 by the Blue Springs Cham-

ber of Commerce to develop a community leadership pool. Participants

will develop skills and knowledge of our community through a series of

vices and local history.

personal commitment of time and energy from each class member. At-

tendance is required at all sessions including the one-day retreat. Any par-

ticipant missing a session without prior approval will be dropped from the

program. All sessions will run from 8am to 4:30pm. Class members are re-

quired to participate in a class project and to attend at least one city

council meeting in order to graduate.

The Selection Criteria

Anyone may apply or nominate an individual. Nominations are solicited

from businesses, professional groups, agencies, and institutions. Applicants

should be able to demonstrate a commitment, motivation, and interest to

service in Blue Springs and have the full support of the corporation or or-

ganization they represent.

The Cost, Schedule, and How to Apply

Tuition for Leadership Blue Springs is $450 for members and $550 for non-

members to participate, which covers costs associated with the program

including meals, workshops, materials, team building session and candi-

date reception. Day long sessions will be held one day month, beginning

in September and ending in May. In addition, there will be a candidate

Keeping businesses in the City of Blue Springs on the cutting edge of business

operations and technology, as we work to improve the business climate!

The Blue Springs Innovation Business Award is a business award designed to meet the needs of area business. In Blue Springs, when businesses are successful the entire community is stronger. There is nothing quite like the return that a successful new product, system or service can bring to the bottom line of a business. The goal of this award is to shine a bright light on the creative spirit of Blue Springs and Jackson County by offering a financial award to the most significantly innovative idea for a new product, system and/or service. Innovations should uniquely fill unmet needs, create attention from competitors, be different and better than existing products, exceed market expectations, achieve financial success, and improve business systems. The requirements to apply are:

A small business (100 or less employees) located in Blue Springs A for-profit business that has been in business for at least one year The business does not have to be a Blue Springs Chamber of

Commerce member

An independent panel of judges will confidentially review and evaluate the applications.

2 15 Business

Innovation Award

Garry Cobb, owner of Lunar Bowl and the 2013 winner has this to say about the award, “The Business Innovation Grant provided resources for our company to introduce bowling to over 200 people, a lifetime sport that supports health and wellness”. “The Innovation Grant allows me to provide a different way to help control pain and other disorders in dogs, cats and small exotics through the use of medical Acupuncture. The whole experience has been great and has allowed me to grow personally and professionally.” , said Dr. Charity Vuagniaux, AniMed Animal Hospital, and 2014 winner.
