Textual Analysis of Drive OTS

Location/Settings

The opening sequence starts with a wide angle panning shot. Its night time which is usually when crime is committed as they can be concealed.New York city is known for its crime rate. You can relax in big city but also it can be dangerous at night time. Urban places help to develop the theme of evil in society.

Lighting and Colour

Darkness and night; low key lighting

Can help to develop a sense of menace

and danger. Again darkness can conceal criminal activity .

The protagonist face is well lit, so the audience can clearly see this main character and his expressions.

Props

• Jacket – with the scorpion hints that this character has a potential for violence, he could be dangerous

• Gloves – showing that his professionalism with driving • Bag – creates question for the audience “what is in the

bag ?” is it tools, is it proceeds from crime…• Car – high performance car hints there will be speed,

car chases and elements of action.

Camera shots and movementMedium shot

Following the character

Mid shot , show us that character dominant and how strong he looks like

Camera Angles

High angles shows us night New York

Font

The font doesn’t really correspond with the opening title sequence and the film poster as all the writing is in pink and in a really weird type of font, and I think this may have been put in place to throw the audience of and make them think about what is really going on.

Sound

The music is very chilled and laidback and is almost like it is the music he is listening to in his car, also the lyrics contain the words ‘drive’ so it relates to the film in a very simple but effective way as it almost acts as a trademark sound for the film.
