Our July 12, our guest speaker will be Teddie Wiggins, Teddie is the Outreach Recruitment Specialist for CASA of Tarrant County ( court Ap-pointed Special Advocates for Chil-dren. She will speak on the work advocates do on behalf of the ne-glected and abused children go-ing through the foster care system of Tarrant County. Currently, almost 20% of the children they serve come from the Arlington area. I am looking forward hearing all she will have to share with us.

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip

to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twin-

kies and a six-pack of Root Beer and he started his jour-

ney.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an elderly

man. The man was sitting in the park just feeding some

pigeons.

The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He

was about to take a drink from his root beer when he no-

ticed that the man looked hungry, so he offered him a

Twinkie.

The man gratefully accepted it and smiled at the boy. His

smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again,

so he offered him a root beer. Again, the man smiled at

him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon

eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew

dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to

leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he

turned around, ran back to the man, and gave him a hug.

The man gave him his biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short

time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on

his face. She asked him, “What did you do today that

made you so happy?” He replied, “I had lunch with God.”

But before his mother could respond, he added, “You know

what? God’s got the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen!”

Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant with joy, returned

to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on

his face and he asked, “Dad, what did you do today that

made you so happy?” He replied, “I ate Twinkies in the

park with God.” However, before his son responded he

added, “You know, he’s much younger than I expected.”

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!

GENERAL MEETING MINUTES:

anne Kelley, Vice President; Paul Goodman, Treasurer;

Mary Godwin, Secretary; Susan Ernst, Director; Joe

Hawkins, Director; Elaine Noe, Director;

Autumn Penry, Director; Edward Ricardez, Director.

The meeting was called to order by Pat Struble, Presi-

dent at 7:00 PM. The Board Members present did rep-

resent a quorum. We pledged allegiance to our flag. We

established a quorum. Invocation was given by Rever-

end Ed Dillon. New members were introduced.

Steve Messina presented a power point display of the

history of the ACPAAA. There were many faces of the

past and present and it was awesome!

Officer Jakisha Jones introduced West Side Lt. Carol Rid-

dle, Sgt. Jeff Fobbs and Sgt. Brad Norman. They defined

their jobs and made their selves available to us at any

time. Officer Jakisha Jones gave some history of her life.

She wanted to be a super cop but God had a different

plan for her life and she’s with the Alumni now. She has

five brothers and is the only girl in her family. She was

the first person to graduate from college on both sides

of her family. She attended Texas A & M, Texas

Wesleyan, and will graduate from UTA with honors.

A letter was read from Deputy Chief Kim Lemaux thank-

ing us for Police Week. General Meeting Minutes from

May 10, 2012 were corrected to reflect the motion

passed on the adjournment of the meeting. Motion to

accept the May 10, 2012 General Meeting Minutes was

made by Joe Hawkins, Director and seconded by Tom

Mulkerin. Motion passed.

Paul Goodman treasurer, read the treasurer’s report.

Motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by

George Godwin and seconded by Susan Ernst, Director.

Motion passed.

Joe Hawkins, Director said the Fry’s was a success! Fifty

people worked on and off during those two days. He

appreciated us working for Fry’s. He had nothing to re-

port on scenarios, yet.

Elaine Noe Director said we will have a Social Sept. 10,

2012 at West Side, 6:00 PM.

Autumn Penry, Director, reported 38 members, 3 Police

Officers, and one child were present at the meeting.

She read the prayer list. Prayer was requested for: Offi-

cer Graham, Linda Smith’s step-sister and sister-in-

law, Gay Clark’s sister died, Bruce Penry, who is having

surgery, and Donna Andrews.

Ed Ricardez, Director, had nothing to say.

Susan Ernst, Director, spoke about the Waco Conven-

tion. They have a post card that will advertise Arlington

and she thinks that the Chief’s Round table should be

held in Arlington.

Reverend Ed Dillon’s Good will Fellowship Group will

not be having church this month because of it falling on

Father’s Day. July 15, 2012 they will go to St. Andrews

United Methodist Church on S. E Green Oaks. Call Rev-

erend Ed for more information.

Kathleen Mulkerin spoke about Police Week and said

that $88.16 was returned to ACPAAA from Police Week

budget.

Call Jackie Smith if you want a directory.

Rita Martin has four orders for shirts and needs to have

four more to send the order in.

Linda Smith reported on the Craft Fair, she needs

clowns. Bonnie was selling police merchandise.

Motion to adjourn was made by Suzanne Kelley, Vice

President, and seconded by Peggy Jacobs. Motion

passed.

Betsy Ross Facts

Betsy Ross was born January 1, 1752 and died at the age of 84 on January 30, 1836.

Betsy had 7 children, 5 of whom lived to adulthood. She had no children with John Ross, however.

At the age of 21, she eloped across the Delaware River

to Gloucester, New Jersey, and was married at a tavern.

She was the 8th of 17 children.

She claimed to have done tailoring for George Washing-

ton.

On Sundays one could find Betsy at Christ Church sit-

ting in pew 12 with her husband. Some Sundays would find George Washington, America’s new commander in chief, sitting in an adjacent pew.

In late May or early June of 1776, according to Betsy’s

telling, she had that fateful meeting with the Committee of Three: George Washington, George Ross, and Robert Mor-ris, which led to the sewing of the first flag.

She has been buried in three different locations: Free

Quaker burial ground at South 5th St. near Locust, Mt. Moriah Cemetery, and now on Arch Street in the courtyard adjacent to the Betsy Ross House.

A major Philadelphia bridge is named in her honor.
