PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

SASS Recognition Week:

2 weeks ago was School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) Recognition Week within the NSW Department of Education.

Our SAS staff are the first people you usually see when you come into our school and offer a wealth of knowledge about our school, the Department and our community. Additionally, a lot of the work that they do behind the operation of the school is invaluable to supporting the quality of teaching and learning opportunities students are offered on a day to day basis.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our amazing SAS staff who work tirelessly to support our students, their families and our teachers.

Our SAS staff consists of Gail Arkell- School Administration Manager (SAM) Sonya Hamson and Alison Morrissey– School Administration Officer (SAO) Ashlie Coupe, Elsie Smith, Beth Chillcott, Peter Regan, Bel Davies, Lisa McPhail, Sue Sewell, Rhonda Smith, Fern Cooper and Kylie Cuthel– School Learning Support Officer (SLSO), Balaji Karuppiah, Technical Support Officer (TSO), Paul Meek and Sam Loveday– Grounds Assistant (GA) Fiona Goodman and Lori Bourke– School Cleaners.

Enrolment Policy

Recently the NSW government made key changes to the enrolment policy that all schools across the state must adhere to.

For Gulgong Public School this will mean that we will only be able to accept enrolments from students within our zone. In coming weeks the zones will be fully published and one will be on display in our front administration area.

This will allow parents to see if they are within our zones when enrolling new students to our school.

If your children are currently enrolled in Gulgong then you will be able to continue here and any siblings will also be accepted into Gulgong Public School.

These changes will only affect new families to the area or families enrolling students into Kindergarten for the first time and only if those students are outside our zones. If you would like any further information please contact the school.

Last Thursday and Friday we had excursions to Green Day for Years 5/6 and the Zoo for Kindergarten.

Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to talk about birds and the natural environment whilst also completing some hands on activities.

Then on Friday our Kinder students left early in the morning for their visit to the Zoo. I have spoken to the kids this morning and favourite animals ranged from the Meerkats to Giraffes and Cheetahs.

The kids loved the day seeing all the animals, but were very tired from all the walking when they got home.

A massive thanks to all the teachers who organised and supervised during these excursions.

GREEN DAY

Stage 3 attended Green Day in Mudgee on Thursday. We got to explore the theme of ‘Birds, Bats and Biodiversity’ by listening to ecologists, environmentalists, bird watchers and create sculptures of birds and

bats.

Newborn Nursery: Spring has arrived bringing the warmer weather, which means

new life! Come meet the new babies who are arriving at the zoo, learn about their

families, and meet the keepers who look after them.

Wonderful Wildlife: Earth is home to an amazing variety of plants and animals.

Some are big, some are small, and some have feathers, fur and crawl. Some are bizarre

and some scare, but all are wonderful, precious and rare! Join us in meeting some

curious creatures and the peculiar adaptations that make them wonderfully unique.

Delectable Diets: Food! We all love to eat it and we all need it to survive. Learn about

animal diets, from ‘generalists’ to super fussy ‘specialist’ eaters. Test your culinary

skills through hands-on investigations, taste testing and cooking demonstrations.

Festy Fauna Features: A giraffe’s tongue is long enough so they can use it to pick

their nose, flies vomit on their food before sucking it up through their straw-shaped

tongues and turkey vultures bathe in their own urine. Join us on a mission to discover

more gross animal facts, and learn about why they have evolved these horrendous

habits!

Amazing Athletes of the Animal Kingdom: Come meet a range of creatures with

amazing athletic talent. Everybody needs to thrive in their natural environment

and sometimes they also need to compete! It can be a tough battle where only the
