If you know of any person that has not yet enrolled their child or are still looking, please encourage them to organise a tour of our school which I do every Friday morning from 9:30 to 11am. If you have not enrolled your child for Prep for 2016 you need to do this ASAP as places available are filling fast. SISTER SCHOOL VISIT: We have certainly had a very busy few days with the teachers and students who have visited us from China. Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a welcome reception at Government House, Melbourne with Eden Holdsworth and Lachlan Read to welcome our visitors from China. This was an exciting event for those of us that attended and the two students certainly represented our school proudly. On Friday our visitors spent their day primarily in the Open Learning Centre with our Year 5/6 students where they completed activities around a Geography unit of Inquiry on Australia and our school environment. We had a very special assembly on Friday afternoon where we had our special gift giving exchange. Their gifts are on display in the front foyer. We gave our sister school 2 special gifts– one was a gift of a book for their library about Australia with many beautiful photo- graphs of landmarks, animals and features of our country and a tortoise engraved Wathourong Glass plate to remember us by. Our gifts to each student and teacher included little memen- tos such as vegemite, honey, chocolate, a book of an Australian animal and a small koala. All of them were very excited with their gifts. On Monday we took the visitors and host family students for a cultural experience at Narana. Everyone really enjoyed this experience. On Tuesday the visitors spent the day in various classrooms around the school. We had a BBQ for lunch which the Chinese loved. I would sincerely like to thank our host families for opening their homes and welcoming the students and teachers into their family. A special thank you to the following families: Berris, Holdsworth, Lewis, Read, Donovan, Doherty, Chance, Davis, and Krissy Wong. These families provided so many memorable experiences and outings for the students and teachers and I know that the visitors were very appreciative of this. I would also like to thank Karen Wilson for doing such a great creative and professional job of wrapping all of our gifts to our visitors. This has been a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved and one that we will all remember and hopefully develop further in the future. Thursday 6 August Hoop Time Grade 5 and 6 COMING EVENTS COME TO SCHOOL VISITS THIS TERM. This afternoon we had our first Come to School session for this term. These have been very popular and we hope they continue to be. We certainly see a benefit for the children involved and it has had a positive impact on our enrolments. We already have one class of Prep for 2016 which is fabulous. The next two are planned for : 19 August and 7 September. It is great to be back at school and I thank all parents that have asked after my welfare and my broken bones. It is very much appreciated. Have a wonderful week everyone. Kathy Wesolowski Principal

Next Week Monday - Cooking: chocolate muffins Tuesday - A&C: fork painting Wednesday - A&C: mosaic winter wonderland Thursday - Competition: Lego building Friday - Sport: Downball

We are always looking for recycled materials to use at ASC, and would appreciate anything that you could bring in for us -- Hannah Watch this space throughout the term for regular updates from our Extend team!

A BIG SPECIAL THANK YOU TO NATALIA KAY Thank you to Natalia for the amazing work and effort she has put into weeding the garden beds and pruning the rose bushes in the school garden and courtyard.

Natalia has spent hours toiling away and has made the garden look so much better with all of her hard work, especially with our Chinese visitors coming, and we are very grateful for everything she has done to make our school look lovely!

PARENTS & FRIENDS FUNDRAISING CHOCOLATES We have had most of the chocolate money returned but if you have any outstanding money or chocolates could they please be returned to the office ASAP so this fundraiser can be finalised. A huge thank you to all of the students and families who have sold chocolates! You have all done a great job.

BUNNINGS BBQ, WAURN PONDS Saturday 5 September, 8am-5pm Last year we made $3000 in just one day for the School. We need lots of helpers to again make it a successful day. We would appreciate any help from parents, grandparents and family members. All families will receive a note home this week asking for preferred time slots for helpers. Each time slot is for 2 hours 15 mins but if you can only help for an hour or so, that would still be great. If you can help for longer than the time slot- bonus!! Each time slot needs 4-5 helpers to be able to cook, serve, cashier and sell cake stall items. Please fill out the slip and return to school with your preferred contact number so that you can be contacted once the roster has been finalised. We will be running a cake stall at the BBQ also so your help in baking goods to sell is really important. It would be great if families could please provide a plate/s to be sold on the day. This could be biscuits, cakes, slices, cupcakes, muffins, chocolates, truffles, honey joys, etc. Our only restriction is not being able to use cream in/on the items. We will provide families with paper plates, bags and labels (for all ingredients to be listed). The first time slot and the last will include setting up/packing up of BBQ and marquee so it would be great if we could have some of the men to help at these times please.

FATHER’S DAY GIFTS All students will receive an order slip for Father's Day Gifts in a couple of weeks. Gifts are $5 each and students will be able to choose their gifts from a great range of items. Gifts will be chosen and sent home with students on Friday 4 September.

TWILLIGHT FAIR Friday 6 November, 4-8pm The Twillight Fair raised over $10,000 when we last held it in 2013. It is a great fundraiser to raise lots of money to be able to upgrade facilities, equipment and resources for our children- like the recent major redevelopment of the school oval. As you can imagine there is a HUGE amount of work that goes into organising the Fair, so we need lots of parent help in making the event a success. We need helpers on the night to assist at stalls and to cook, serve food and co-ordinate stalls and ensure that rosters are covered. We will need cake stall items to sell and lucky dip prizes donated. We need lots of donations of items for our silent auction. If you or any family or friends run a business that may be able to donate goods, vouchers, services, cash donations to purchase supplies, or anything else, we would love your help! Ask at your work place if they can donate anything to the event. Vouchers for coffee and cake at a cafe, services from a tradesman for an hour or two, $20 free fish and chips, money off a purchase, free swim, free entry to a venue, accommodation, clothes, items, produce, merchandise- anything would be greatly appreciated. Please let myself or the office know of any help you can offer for the organisation of the Fair, assistance on the night and any donations you may be able to provide or source. Thank you in advance for your help and as they say 'Many hands make light work'.

NEXT MEETING—Our next meeting will be held next Wednesday 5 August at 9am. Everyone welcome to attend. We will be doing lots of fair organisation. Please come along if you can help out at all. Thank you and regards, Gab Lewis

Hand Foot and Mouth Disease We have received a report of a student at our school who has contracted Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. Hand, foot and mouth disease is a contagious viral illness common in children. The most common symptoms include: High temperature (fever).

Sore throat. * Small, blister-like lesions that may occur on the inside of the mouth, sides of the tongue, palms of the hands, fingers, soles of the feet and ‘nappy’ area. * Children are often irritable, tired, and may be off their food.

We ask that parents be aware of the above symptoms and take appropriate action as necessary.
