Dear Families,

The last two weeks have seen our senior students attend overnight

excursions to further their learning. On Thursday and Friday of Week 4,

I had the pleasure of accompanying Year 6 to Canberra. We had a very

enjoyable and informative two days visiting the National Capital

Exhibition, Parliament House, the Parliamentary Education Office,

Electoral Education Centre, Questacon, the Australian War Memorial

and the Australian Institute of Sport. I would like to congratulate our

Year 6 students on their excellent behaviour. They were outstanding

ambassadors for our school. On behalf of the Year 6 families, I would

also like to thank Miss Gray, Mrs Tynan and Mrs Bradley for giving up

their time to plan and attend the excursion.

Last Thursday and Friday, our Year 5 children attended the Bathurst

Goldfields excursion. The children learnt about life on the goldfields,

made damper, mud bricks, played old-fashioned games, pitched a tent,

visited the museum and graveyard and completed various activities.

Once again, our students’ behaviour was exemplary and I congratulate

them on being excellent ambassadors for St Monica’s. There were a

number of very favourable comments from the museum guides about

how respectful the children were. My thanks to Mrs Kemble, Mrs

Malvagna, Mrs Van Der Burg, Mrs Bradley and Mr Moriarty and Mr

Izaacs (K-6 Gold) for giving up their time to attend the excursion.

At this time of the year parents often request copies of reports for Year

7 applications. Please understand that given how busy our school office

is, it is unrealistic to expect our secretaries to provide an ‘on the spot’

service. Our aim is to provide such requests within a 48 hour time

frame. A charge of $10.00 applies to all requests for extra reports and

needs to be paid on collection. Thank you for your understanding in

this matter.

Writers Festival 2017

“2 weeks ago 9 children were chosen to go to the writers’

festival. If you don’t already know, the writers’ festival is a

venue for young talented writers who are willing to be great

writers. The children got to listen to 4 authors and listen to

how they became who they are today. At the end of the day

we got our books signed by the authors and got some photos.

It was so fun!”

Year 6 Canberra Trip

Our Year 6 students had a great time on their

Canberra trip away.

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Year 5 Bathurst Camp Our journey began on Thursday 25th May 2017. Year 5 travelled for 2.5 hours by coach to the Bathurst Goldfields. We learnt what life was like on the goldfields and some of us even found gold while panning. We took a tour of the Bathurst Museum where we learnt about Bushrangers and we investigated the history of Bathurst by visiting the cemetery.
