Konnichiwa, Ni Hao, Talofa Over the past two weeks, we have had a few visitors to our school. Last week, we had the Principal and Deputy Principal from Ashhurst School visit to see how we have implemented personalised and differen?ated learning across our classes. They were very impressed with the engagement and enjoyment of our children and the rich programmes that we have developed. This week, we had a Chinese Teacher visi?ng to learn about our approach to teaching and learning and beEer understand the New Zealand Curriculum. Over the past week, we have welcomed Leo (Room 12), Wiremu, Nasharna and Blessing (Room 6) to our school. We also extend a very warm welcome to your family and whanau. Our school roll is currently 463. Makerspace Development Some of you may have no?ced the builders working in the library removing all the wall lining and wondering what was happening. At the beginning of the year, the Board agreed to transform and renovate the library into a Makerspace. A Makerspace is an area in a school where students and teachers can come together to create, invent, design, build, explore, craT, draw, code, explore, cook make! Students work collabora?vely using a variety of tools and technology to create and make. The plan for the Makerspace will include; the installa?on of a kitchen, with three ovens, 3D printers, sewing machines, craT materials, lego and the opportunity of space for children to design and build. The Library will not be completely lost, rather redistributed. Much like Te Takere and the Palmerston North City Library, which have been repurposed from the tradi?onal library, the Makerspace will s?ll house some of our library collec?on, while also allowing for crea?vity. The rest of the books will be placed in library towers and be posi?oned in classes and break out areas across the school, so our children will have immediate access to a range books within their classes. The Makerspace is an incredibly exci?ng ini?a?ve for our school and we look forward to it’s comple?on. www.fairfieldlevin.school.nz Empowering learners to be positive, self-directed and engaged life-long learners Our Vision: Fairfield School Te Kura o Whiratea Term 2 Week 5 1 June 2017 School Closed: Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 June From the FCG… Thank you to all the parents and staff who aEended the recent FCG AGM mee?ng.
