Below are some reminders about some procedures that will continue and change in Term 3. Bubblers The bubblers will continue to be out of use, so we ask that the children bring a drink bottle to school. Volunteers and parent helpers There will continue to be no volunteers allowed in the classroom or onsite. Speech Pathology and OT Therapy Allied Health Professionals can work with the students. All external providers will adhere to relevant hygiene, distancing and safety protocols. They will also need to complete relevant forms when they attend the school. Music Tuition Bianca has started her music lessons this week. Bianca and any other outside providers will be required to demonstrate compliance with health and safety requirements including adhering to strict guidelines and completing relevant forms. Scripture Scripture and Ethics will recommence in Term 3 Week 1 on Wednesday. Canteen The school canteen will continue to operate and students are able to order their lunch only via Flexischools on a limited menu. Reports Teachers are currently writing Semester 1 reports and there will be no specic grades or effort allocated to the students. Classroom teachers are commenting on English, Mathematics and a general comment. The report will provide a summative account of student progress and achievement on learning covered during Semester 1, at school and at home, with information about what might need to be done to support your child’s learning growth. The reports will not be given out until next term. Dropping off and picking up arrangements When dropping off your child, make sure it is to the school gate or just inside the school grounds and leave promptly. If you need to drop your child’s lunch or anything to them please do not go to the child’ classroom. Bring the item to the ofce and we will make sure your child gets it. No parent or carer should be walking their child or anything up to the classroom. When picking up your child, please wait in the Northern Playground (3-6) grassed area. Do not wait near the Library, as parents, carers, staff and the children will not be able to maintain social distancing procedures. Parents and carers need to continue to wait until roughly 3:00pm to come onto school grounds. If you do not follow the above procedures, we may have to restrict parents or carers on school grounds, and this would be disappointing. Attendance There has been a drastic increase in students being absent and late. Students should only stay home if they are unwell. We have currently been experiencing students coming late to school due to roadworks on Government Road. Please factor this in when leaving in the morning as the ofce staff are having to deal with an inux of students. Also, students who are coming to school late are missing out on their morning routine as well and this often unsettles them for the remainder day. We only gone up to 45% of parents who have paid the resource packs. Can we get some payments coming in soon. Our school relies on these payments. Thanks to those who have paid.

Term 2 Week 10 | Mon 29 Jun 2020

Parents, Carers and community helpers We are looking for any helpers that can help Adrian Bradley on 4 July. Adrian is looking at constructing some wooden garden beds around the paper bark trees near the Library. We would love some helpers on the day. If you can donate some of your time on that day it would be great. Please contact the office if you are able to help. Drum Beat Miss King has been working with a Drum Beat group that will be performing for Mr Tim McCallum our Regional North Operational Director and Mrs Trish Bowen our Director of Educational Leadership on Monday July 27. I am looking forward to seeing them perform and thank you Miss King for helping with this.

Fingal Walking Excursion

Stage 3

At Shoal Bay Public School we are creating a visible learning

environment.

Visible learning is all about children taking ownership for their learning.

Visible Learning is the result of the research undertaken by John Hattie to understand what provides the most success in learning. It is based on over 68,000 studies and 25 million students.

John Hattie defines Visible Learners as students who can:

· Articulate what they are learning

· Explain the next steps in their learning

· Set learning goals

· See errors as opportunities for further learning

· Know what to do when they are stuck

· Seek feedback

The staff have focused on using Learning Intentions as a Visible Learning tool to improve the writing skills of our stu-dents.

Here are the Learning Intentions that each stage has been working towards this term.

Early Stage 1: We are learning to write a simple sentence.

Stage 1: We are learning to write a persuasive text to convince the reader.

Stage 2: I can write a ‘hamburger’ paragraph using persuasive language.

Stage 3: We are learning to use theme position to improve our writing of information reports We are learning to organise our writing into structured paragraphs containing information on a similar aspect of a giv-

en topic. Next term we will bring you regular updates on each stage Learning Intention and hopefully some examples.
