FROM THE PRINCIPAL‘S DESK….

I am looking forward to meeting some of our new families next week at our parent breakfast which will be held on Friday 28th February at 8.30am. I’m

hoping to chat to parents and grandparents about how their children are settling into Greenway Park. While we are dedicating this Friendly Friday to our new families ALL Greenway Park parents and community are invited to attend. Children are also very welcome to come along when accompanied by an adult. Friendly Friday is a lovely way to connect with other families in the school and to take time out and relax. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of our families on Friday.

After the Annual General Meeting last Tuesday we are pleased to introduce our P&C executive for 2020. The committee will continue the hard work they started last year in supporting the school and raising money to help fund school initiatives and resources. Once again they would love to see more of our community come along to future meetings. Meetings will be held in Week 3 and Week 7 of each school term. So please do not be shy! The P&C is a great way to meet other parents and community members and to become authentic partners in the education process.

President - Mrs Aileen Thomson Vice President - Mrs Cathy Crowley Vice President - Mrs Colleen Fagan Treasurer - Mrs Colleen Nuttall Secretary - Mrs Holly Alexander

WHAT IS A P&C ASSOCIATION?

A P&C Association is a school-based organisation consisting of parents, teachers and citizens residing within the school drawing enrolment area. The Education Act 1990 states that P&C Associations are established to:

Promote the interest of the school by bringing parents, citizens, students and teaching staff into close co‐operation;

Assist in providing facilities and equipment for the school and promoting the recreation and welfare of the students at the school; Encourage parent and community participation in curriculum and other education issues in schools; Report, when requested by the Minister, on the material requirements of the school and advise on the subject of maintenance of the school, alterations and additions to school facilities and the selection of new sites; Assist and co‐operate with teaching staff at public functions associated with the school

Be responsible for the election of parent representatives to any school council constituted at the school in consultation with the principal of the school; and Assist in any other matters in which the Minister may seek the co‐operation of the association.

Last year some of our families participated in focus group discussions at school. This is a great opportunity for parents to authentically engage with the school executive and be informed about some of the decision-making processes in the school. The first of those focus group discussions will be coming up later in the term. Any parents who would like to be part of a focus group please call the office and leave your contact details. Some of the things we will be looking at include, evaluating the current school plan, Mathematics, Positive Partnerships and student wellbeing.

NEW FAMILIES/FRIENDLY FRIDAY

Last Friday Mrs Cutri and I had the opportunity to pop in and visit the students participating in the 2020 competitor’s only swimming carnival. Despite the hot and steamy conditions the students were having a wonderful time and we were very impressed with their enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Seeing the children encouraging each other during the races made us very proud. Congratulations to all our children who competed but also to those who qualified for the upcoming zone carnival. We wish them the best of luck at this next level of the competition. A huge thank you to Mr Chiandotto and Mrs Biady for their organisation of the day and to all of our teachers who attended and made the morning run so successfully.

From time to time parents or other members of the school community may need to approach the school in order to:

• Discuss the progress or welfare of own child; • Express concern about actions of other students; • Enquire about school policy or practice; • Express concern about actions of staff.

It is therefore necessary to have procedures that will help solve problems as soon as possible so that a safe and harmonious school environment is maintained. The best results are usually achieved from working together. These guidelines aim to:

• Provide a guide in order that concerns are dealt with in an open and fair manner; • Ensure that the rights of students, teachers and parents are respected and upheld; • Support sensitivity and confidentiality; • Help reach an agreed solution.

On occasion, concerns may cause frustration and anxiety. At such times it is always important to organise a time to talk with school staff in an unhurried and confidential atmosphere. Note: No parent should directly approach another person’s child. The classroom teacher or grade supervisor should be the first point of contact when resolving issues or seeking clarification.

“Create the highest grandest vision possible for your life because

you become what you believe.”

Meet the Teacher is on tonight. Tonight, you are welcome to come to the school and listen to the many fun and exciting learning programs that your child’s teacher will discuss with you. It is a time to introduce yourself to the teacher and develop a better understanding of the expectations of the teaching and learning program that the teacher will share. If your child is in Year 4, 5 or 6, the teachers will discuss the camp arrangements for the grade. In Year 6, high school placement will be discussed and the Human Sexuality program will be outlined. More information about NAPLAN will be provided to parents of students in Year 3 and 5 So please feel free to attend as many sessions as you need. The times for each grade or class are listed below. Often throughout the year parents will ask questions about topics that were discussed at the meet the teacher night, so please keep these dates free so that you can be better informed about your child/rens education.

Kindergarten students have settled in very well to their school environment. Today all Kindergarten students moved from their rooms to the assembly area where they joined the rest of the school for morning assembly. We ask that all parents take their child to their class line beginning on Wednesday. We also ask that parents refrain from walking with their child to their class or talking to the teacher as this causes distraction to all. If you are late to school and the class has been dismissed from the assembly area, you will have to obtain a late note from the office. This lateness is recorded as a partial absence even if you are in Kindergarten

This year’s school photo organisation will be on Tuesday 17th March 2020. More information will

be sent home in the upcoming weeks. These photos assist the school in many ways. If you need to make appointments for your child please consider keeping this date free.

PBL News Students and teachers at Greenway Park Public School have started the new

year revisiting PBL expectations across the whole school. Each day a focus

area from last year is revised and discussed within classes. Students across all

grades have completed role plays and participated in explicitly taught lessons to develop an understanding of expected behaviours within the school.

Students continue to work exceptionally hard,

displaying and understanding the 4 expectations, Be

Safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and Be Respectful.

All staff are committed to developing a positive

school experience for our students by using

consistent language and clear expectations.

Students following expectations are rewarded with Gotcha tokens and PBL awards. Each week the

tokens are collected and drawn at Friday mornings

assembly.

We ask that you assist us by discussing with your

child expected behaviours at school.

Thank you for your continued support
