Diggings from Our Community Garden

With hot summer days ahead, work in the garden is concentrated around water and soil conservation. Our resident compost enthusiast, Leah, has been scavenging the waterways and paddocks for material to build composts while other gardeners regularly mulch our gardens using donated grass cuttings. At this time of the year grass clippings can be substantial and if you have, or know somebody else who has, difficulty in disposing of this source of green waste bring it up to the garden. Our grass clipping area is well marked so you will not have a problem about knowing where to put it even if there are no gardeners on the premises. As summer progresses and planting time is reduced we turn our hands to other tasks. One of our current projects requires a creative touch as we adorn garden edges with recycled tile mosaics. If you would like to create some art in our garden pop in and see Jenny or Coral on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday. Our garden planning meetings continue to be held on the 4th Saturday of the month. These very informal, meetings are when we plan our various projects and provide an opportunity for everybody to have a say in the future direction of the garden. Our AGM will be held on Saturday 28th February and this will be followed by the first planning meeting of the New Year. Why not come and join us for cake and coffee and see the great work that is being done by a group of friendly gardeners who would love you to join them.
