Survey Questions for Teachers Do you feel that technology motivates

students? Would you like to integrate more

technology? How comfortable do you feel using new

technology in your classroom? What type of technology do you wish we

had at Williams?

Survey Distribution and Tabulation Surveys will be distributed to teachers,

administrators, and staff in their school mailboxes. They will be returned to a central location.

Student surveys will be distributed, filled out, and collected in homerooms.

Parent surveys will be distributed in the PTSO mailing and returned in enclosed envelopes.

use it to access the internet? What do you use computers for? How often do you use computers to

complete school assignments? Would you like to use more technology in

your classes? How so?

child’s teachers? What computer skills would you like to see

emphasized in school? How often does your child use technology

to complete homework or for entertainment?

you at Johnson High School? Would you be interested in taking distance

learning or online classes through the school system?

Teachers are the people who will be carrying out the vision. Their input is crucial to ensure ownership of the plan.

The administrator in charge of media This person will be able to advocate for the

money necessary to implement the plan.

Report -- Teachers Most teachers agree that technology motivates

students and they would like to incorporate more technology into their classrooms. Younger teachers feel more comfortable with implementation while veteran teachers tended to say they found technology intimidating.

Most teachers would like to see more projectors & SMART boards in their classes with appropriate staff development.

Report -- Students Almost all students have access to computers

with internet access. Most students use computers for recreation,

communicating with friends, and completing class assignments

Every student answered that they would like to see more technology in the classrooms. Ideas included blogs, video games, more SMART boards, and computer-based assessments.

Report -- Parents About half of the parents communicate with

teachers via email. The other half still use the phone.

Many parents indicated the need for internet safety instruction.

Almost all parents see their children using computers daily.

Page 24: Technology Needs Assessment

Report for Administrators The administrators believe that technology is

important, and staff development will help to promote technology in classrooms. However, there are limited resources, and money may need to come from places other than the school system (grants, fundraising, etc.)

Most of the administrators feel comfortable using email and ConnectEd, but need instruction on using the school website and NC Wise.

Increasing the number of SROs and surveillance cameras would be useful in monitoring behavior.

Report for Classified Staff Most classified staff primarily use email and don’t

have a need for using other technology available at the school. The main exception are the 2 teacher assistants.

None of the staff indicated an interest in taking distance education classes through the school system, but some would like to use school equipment to complete assignments for college courses.

Recommendations Buy more projectors and SMART boards for use

in classrooms Institute staff development for teachers to improve

technology skills on workdays or during planning Use Gaggle or similar email programs for

students, parents, and teachers Explore gaming and social networking as possible

ways to reach students
