My definition: educational technology

The teaching and incorporation of various technologies (e.g. computers, calculators, scientific equipment) into lessons.

The use of technology in education is to introduce students to various types of technologies used, support/enhance learning and demonstrate the importance of technology.

Kindergarten technology

Throughout kindergarten and elementary school, chalkboards were the main way to convey messages and notes from teachers to students.

7

High school technology

Overhead projectors were a big part of note taking.

Unlike chalkboards, projector sheets were able to be saved and stored for later reference.

College technology

Computers and internet are a huge resource for students of all ages.

The internet allows students and educators the ability to share notes and work online.

Computers allow students to take notes and save them almost indefinitely.

A challenge for teaching

Technology illiteracy Technology advancements are so fast pace. I think keeping teachers up-to-par with current technology and being able to keep lesson plans and teaching students might be challenging.

Lack of fundsLack of funds could limit the technology available in classrooms.

Words of wisdom

“Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.”

-Heidi-Hayes Jacobs, Educational Consultant

“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.”

-John Dewey
