LOCTITE® 4090 Structural Instant Adhesive

6 December 3, 2015 Technical Presentation | 2K Structural/Structural Elastic Adhesives

LOCTITE®: MMA 2 Part Acrylics

Typical Substrates

Galvanized steel

Galvaneal

E-coat / Powder coated steel

Aluminum

Composites and plastics (FRP, SMC, RIM,

PC, ABS, etc.)

Benefits

Excellent impact resistance

High shear strength

High flexibility allows bonding of different

substrates

Tolerant to oily substrates

Limitations

Not designed to be weld-through

Low paint bake tolerant (typically 250°F

max.)

MMA – 2 Part Acrylics

Offers greater durability compared to mechanically fastened joints.

Sample joints demonstrated nearly twice the strength of riveted joints in

standardized FMVSS 221 compliance tests.

TEROSON® PU-1510™

One-part, low temperature activated (min. of 85°C) polyurethane adhesives. Snap curing / fixture

times with a short bond-line temperature exposure (1-2 minutes).

Bonding of rain sensors and mirror sockets onto glass, general trim or repair solutions with

excellent bonding to plastics, glass and coated metals

Benefits

“Snap cure” bonding

Low temperature activation (85°C minimum)

Compatible with most plastics due to low temperature

heat cure

Easy to apply (1-part)

Excellent adhesion to plastics, glass and coated

metals

Plastic/Metal Bonding 1K Room Temp/Moisture cure Polyurethane

TEROSON® 8590 LD™

One component adhesive and sealant

Moisture cure

Free of PVC and Solvents

Lower density of 1.0 g/ml vs typical 1.3 g/ml of direct glaze adhesives

Gap filling properties for elastic assembly bonding

Benefits

Weight reduction

Excellent adhesion on

glass and ceramics with

primers

Excellent adhesion on

painted surfaces without

primers

Application Examples & Value Enhancement

Bonding of front, rear and side screens to body of cars, trucks,

buses

Elastic bonding of roofs, front elements, floor elements

11 December 3, 2015 Technical Presentation | 2K Structural/Structural Elastic Adhesives

Plastic/Metal Bonding 1 K “Snap Cure” Polyurethane – Low Density

TEROSON® PU 860 ME™

New adhesive designed to assist lightweighting objectives

Very effective adhesion on low surface energy plastics, FRP, and aluminum

Elastic, semi-structural adhesive

Lower density, 1.15 g/ml, vs previous elastic bonding materials

High elongation, ~250%

Benefits

Excellent adhesion to

powder coat and ED

substrates

Reduced production time

due to faster curing

Enables achieving

significant weight reduction

Application Examples & Value Enhancement

Structural bonding of aluminum

Semi-structural bonding of FRP parts

Elastic bonding for highly stressed areas

Replacement of higher density products

12 December 3, 2015 Technical Presentation | 2K Structural/Structural Elastic Adhesives

Plastic/Metal Bonding/Sealing 2K Silane Modified Polymer

LOCTITE® 5590™

Two part SMP for elastic bonding

Non-sag, high tack and fast set time

Fast cure rate when the use of one part adhesives is too slow

Durable bond for a wide range of substrates

Benefits

Multiple substrates can be

bonded, reducing adhesive

types required

Fast curing for quicker

assembly processes

Provides design flexibility

Good adhesion to most

plastics

Application Examples & Value Enhancement

Structural bonding of aluminum, steel

Semi-structural bonding of FRP parts

Elastic bonding for highly stressed areas
