● Provides schools with the means to improve their culture, climate, and health

● Assists in producing an environment where children can thrive academically, emotionally, and physically

● Increases the engagement of students, families, and the community

● Rooted in the work of Dr. Maurice J. Elias

2016 - Present:● Teachers, students and parents completed

○ Over 20 members incorporating various stakeholders in the building

● Creation of Student SEL Team (3 - 5)● Review of strengths and opportunities● Implementing initiatives based on survey

Purpose:

● To build student connections among different grade levels

● To create opportunities to include all students in a shared learning experience

What is it?

● Students were reorganized into “teams” comprised of all students in grades K-5

● Teams will be meeting periodically throughout the year to work on team building activities

● Lessons developed during MPS-SEL staff college
