TEACHING SPEAKING REASONS FOR TEACHING SPEAKING Students need a variety of experiences in speaking therefore there are many reasons for getting students to speak in the classroom. Such as: speaking exercises can give the opportunity to push their understanding of language, or Holding a conversation in English will help students be more comfortable speaking the language, Discuss topics of interest, or topics students feel comfortable with. Even basic greetings and pleasantries provide a way to practice familiarizing students with the English language, pronunciation of words and how to correctly structure words in an English sentence; moreover, all this can provide opportunities to practice speaking before increasingly larger groups. Learning to converse confidently with native English speakers takes practice.
