Teacher FeedbackThree Unique School Corporations

What is Community Commitment to Education?

Community Commitment to Education is a partnership among Greater Lafayette Commerce, United Way of Greater Lafayette, and our three

local community school corporations designed to motivate our community to engage in our students’

academic success.

Collective Impact

Read to Succeed FocusRead to Succeed places volunteers in local schools to

focus on improving early grade reading skills• 3rd grade is a focal point because: Until 3rd grade,

learn to read; after 3rd grade, read to learn• “Academic success, as defined by high school

graduation, can be predicted with reasonable accuracy by knowing someone's reading skill at the end of grade 3 (Slavin et al., 1994).”

Teacher Feedback

“It feels wonderful as a teacher to see the community caring so much.”

Teacher Feedback

“I think it’s great for people outside of the school setting to learn what is happening in the schools. A lot has changed since they were in kindergarten.”

Volunteer feedback"I love volunteering with Mrs. Huffman’s class!  They are a joy and they are the best part of my week!“

“It is so rewarding to give the students encouragement. I get the impression, the way they soak it up, they really need someone to look them in the eye and smile and encourage them.”

“Parent involvement is very important and that’s not here all the time. So there needs to be somebody else in that child’s life that needs to push a little and encourage.”

Volunteer feedback

“Read to Succeed has been great. I love that it gets me out of my normal environment and

helps me to be even more aware of the community.”
