Conditional Sentences-(If clauses)
Conditional sentences are used to guess about
1) What could happen (Possible situations)2) What might have happened (imaginary situations)3) What we wish would happen (impossible situations)
There are 2 parts in these sentences1) If clause2) Main clause
Conditional sentences are used to express that the action in the main clause can only happen if a certain condition is fulfilled.
Conditional type 1 (If clause type 1)
The type 1 conditional refers to a possible condition and its probable result. If clause is in the simple present tense and the main clause is in the simple future.
Ex: 1]. If you study hard , you will pass the examination.

2]. If you drop the glass , it will break.

Conditional type 2 (If clause type 2)
The type 2 conditional refers to a hypothetical condition and its probable result.
If clause is in the simple past and the main clause is in the present conditional.
If this thing happened that thing would happen.(It is not sure whether this will happen)
Ex: If you studied hard , you would pass the examination.
If clause main clause(simple past) would + verb(stem)
(present conditional)
Ex: If she ate well , she would get fat.
simple past would + verb(stem)
Conditional type 3 The type 3 conditional refers to an unreal past conditions and its
probable past result. Often the result is impossible. If clause is in the past perfect and the main clause is n the perfect
conditional.
Ex: If you had studied hard , you would have passed the exam.
