Justification of Design Choices 

Design Choice Evaluation of Choice

Font style for all general text The font style that I will use for

general text will be Arial Rounded MT

Bold. I think it looks professional. I also

think it is clear to read.Font colour for all general text The font colour I will use for general

text is white. This is so that it will

stand out on my dark background. It

not too small to read. It is also not too

big so that I can write the amount I

Method of Solution 

In this section I will show what I plan to do to overcome the task I have been set, and the order

of which I plan to do it. I will do this by showing a step-by-step guide of how I plan to make my

presentation and complete this task, set by Brian. I will make sure I complete all these steps to

fulfil Brian’s requirements.

1. I will open up Microsoft Power Point by double clicking on the software, this will give me a

new, blank document.

2. I will then create a new slide and on the first slide I will insert a background of black by

going into ‘Design’ and then ‘Background Styles’. I will then apply this background to ‘all sides’.

3. I will then insert the logo in the top right hand corner of the slide.

4. Next, I will insert the title ‘Hickley Medical Centre’ into a text box, at the top of the page in

‘Calibri (Body’, style font, in size 88, coloured white.

5. I will then insert a relevant picture onto my slide.

6. Next, I will copy and paste in the address, telephone number and email of the centre, in

white font.

7. I will then create a duplicated version of this slide to save repeating similar steps.

8. I will change the heading to ‘Doctors’, insert a different but still relevant picture, and

change the text on the page to say the two doctors names; ‘Dr Holmes’ and ‘Dr Watson’. I will

then create another text box, below the logo saying ‘Return’.

9. I will then create another duplicated slide.

10. I will change the title on this one to ‘Dr Holmes’ and delete the two other text boxes, but

leave the one saying ‘Return’. I will change the image for another relevant one and insert the

list of appointments.11. I will then create another duplicated slide of the Dr Holmes one.

12. Next, I would repeat stage 10, creating a slide headed ‘Dr Watson’.

13. I will then duplicate this slide and change the heading to ‘Other Health Services’.

14. I will then delete the appointment list and insert the information from file on disk.

15. I will change the picture to another appropriate one.

16. I will then have to make all the hyperlinks. I will make these by right clicking the chosen

word/hotspot and click on ‘edit hyperlink’. I will then have to choose the correct slide it must

lead to. I will make every logo take the user back to the home page, except the logo on the

home page. On the ‘Doctors’ page the words ‘Doctor Holmes’ and ‘Dr Watson’ will lead to that

Doctors page. On the home page the words ‘Doctors’ and ‘Other Health Services’ will lead tothe pages headed with that text.

17. I can quickly check these work, so I will do this by clicking ‘F5’ to run my presentation.

Implementation

Introduction In this section, I have taken screen shots during the making of my presentation in PowerPoint.

These show how I used the software and each step I took in completing my presentation.

I have given annotated screen shots of each significant stage of my presentation. I have set these

out in a table.

logo to the page from the file.

I did this by going to insert,

at the top of the screen and

clicking on Picture. I was then

able to browse through thefiles until I reached the

‘Practice Logo’.

PowerPoint, after I had

inserted it. This wassomething I had to do as a

requirement Brian gave me

was to include a logo on each

page of my presentation. I put

this in the top right hand

corner of the page by clicking

and dragging it, as this was

another requirement from

Brian.

This shows me inserting myheading, I did this by going to

Insert at the top of the

screen, the clicking on

WordArt. I chose to use

WordArt so that my heading

would look professional and

stand out, this was all

required by Brian and so I put

this at the top of the page.

I then typed in the heading,

what it was required to be.

This shows that I have my

heading, logo and background

done and all in the correct

places on my first page.

This shows me getting my

picture from file on disk. I

chose the picture ‘MedicalPractice.’ I chose to use the

picture of the medical

practice as I believed this

was most suitable for the

home page.

This shows my picture, afterI pasted it onto my ‘Hickley

Medical Practice’ page. I then

resized it by clicking on it and

dragging the top right hand

corner in until it was about

half the size. I then moved it

over to the left hand side by

clicking and dragging it, to

make room for the address,

telephone number and email

address of the practice that

I would insert next.

inserted a text box by going

to insert, then text box at

the top of the page, I then

had to type in the text,making it Arial style font, in

highlighting it and using the

font section at the top of the

page.

This shows some other text

that I typed in. I did this the

same way as previously in anew text box and dragged it

to just under the image of the

medical practice.

This shows my home page

completed after each of the

steps.

I then inserted a duplicated

slide. I did this by going to

the top of the screen onHome, then onto New Slide,

and then clicked ‘Duplicate

Selected Slide’.

An exact copy of the first

slide was then inserted, so

the first thing I needed to do

was change the page heading.

I deleted the text ‘Hickley

Medical Practice’ and changed

it to say Doctors; this was the

title Brian required. I left it

in the same size and colour, to

make all the pages look

professional.

I then deleted the picture

and inserted a different one

as it was required that there

be a different but suitable

picture on each page, I

inserted this picture the sameway as before from a file on

disk. I chose a picture of a

stethoscope as I thought this

was suitable for a Doctors

page.

I then resized it to fit on the

left hand size. I did this by

clicking on the picture anddragging the top right hand

corner inwards.

I then changed the text to

say Dr Holmes. I did this by

deleted all the text that was

already there, by highlighting

it and pressing delete on the

keyboard and then typing in

the new text.

I then copied and pasted thetext box and changed the

other one to say, Dr Watson.

I then changed the size of

both of these text boxes with

the doctor’s names in them to

be size 32.This was done by

going to the font section at

the top of the page.

I then created another text

box saying return, by

inserting a text box and

typing into it, changing the

font to be size 28, Arial and

white, so it would show up onmy black background.

I then duplicated this slide in

the same way before. This is

my duplicate slide inserted

again.

This time I changed the

heading to Dr Holmes.

I then deleted the image

from the doctor’s page and

the two text boxes that said,

‘Dr Holmes’ and ‘Dr Watson’.

Next, I inserted my new

chosen picture, ‘Blood

pressure 2’ from file on disk,

the same way as before.

Again, I thought this was

suitable for the page of a

doctor.

I then made the image to the

size I wanted it and moved it

to the right hand side of the

page.

I then inserted a text box,

this was done at the top of

the page, and once I had

clicked the button I had to

stretch out the text box on

my slide.

I then got the list of

appointments from a file on

disk and copied and pasted

them into my text box.

I then changed the font

colour to white so that it can

be clearly read, and changed

it to my chosen font, Arial.

I then changed the font size

to 11 so that it would all fit on

the slide.

This is my Doctor Holmes

slide after doing all the

previous steps to it. I also

inserted a heading saying

Appointment List.

I inserted the heading saying

Appointment List by creating

a text box and typing out the

text. I made this text Arial

size 18 and coloured white, to

assure it stood out on my

black background. I made this

italic so that it would also

stand out from all the other

text on the page and

underlined it for the same

reason.

I then duplicate selected my

Doctor Holmes slide, the same

way as before.

I then changed the heading to

Dr Watson by highlighting the

heading already there and

typing out ‘Dr Watson’. I kept

all the same sizes and fonts

for all of my headings on thepresentation to assure it all

looked professional.

Conclusion By doing this test I was shown of the problems which needed solving, if I had not solved these then

EvaluationIntroduction 

I managed to meet all of the original performance criteria that I was given. I have completed the

table below to show that I have met the criteria, using screen shots as proof of me doing this. In

this table I will also evaluate my performance by considering how I achieved each of the

performance criteria.

of the medical practise. One way I did this was by laying out my

pages clearly. I made all my fonts Arial so that any text was clear to

read. I also made all the pictures I inserted a suitable size so that

Yes I did meet the criteria. I did this by making all the content be

on similar places on every page. My main heading on the slides were

always at the top. The text and picture were then under that. My

logo was always in the top right hand corner as it had to be, with a

would be on when using the presentation. If I had not used it, it

address. It was a requirement from Brian to include this so I made

sure I did, this was done by inserting the text from a file. It assures

that the user can contact the practice via email. I made sure this

text was in white to be clear to read on the black background, as

they are opposite colours. I also made the font size big enough to be

clear to read, but not too big. I made it in the font style Arial, as

this is what I did for all the text to make the font always the same

style.This was all to make sure my presentation was usable and

professional looking.
