Training module for Tasar Commercial RearersObjective: To impart technical Knowledge and develop skill of the rearers to increase the cocoon production at commercial level.

Duration: 1 day each phase

Number of Participants: 30-35 (preferably from one Tasar Vikas Samity)

Pre requisites of training

• Identification of commercial rearers, list finalization and invitation for training

• Fixing of dates, venue and arrangement for other logistics

• Arrangement for training materials and trainers

Logistics and materials required

1. Training hall with capacity to accommodate 35 persons with electric/ generator facility and night stay, wherever possible.

2. Fooding arrangement for 35 participants and 2 Resource persons as per the schedule.

3. Sitting arrangement (mat), bed roll, mosquito repellant, water and light arrangement in training venue for 35 participants.

4. Stationery items viz., Note book (35 pcs), pen (35 pcs), chart paper (10 Pcs), Marker (4 Pcs, two different color), study material (35 no.), Training attendance register etc.

5. Banner, camera, stamp pad, arrangement for laptop and projector

6. Lime - 10 Kg, Bleaching - 1kg, Nylon net - 1 pc, Bamboo (10 pcs - 10 ft length and 2 pcs - 15 ft length), sprayer - 1 pc, Plastic Bucket (1 Pc -15 ltr capacity), Plastic Mug (1pc), Urea- 1kg, Roger- 100 ml, NPK (12:32:16) - 2Kg, Secateurs- 1pc, Spade-1pc, shovel-1pc, Jute rope - 50 mtrs

Phase 1 Tasar Host Plant Management

Phase 2 Scientific rearing practices vis-a-vis current practices followed

Phase 3 Resource Planning

Note: The gap between each consecutive phase should not be more than one week

Phase 1: Tasar Host Plant Management

Time Module

10:00 - 11:00 AM

* Ice Breaking exercise

* Introduction of MKSP Project – Project stakeholders

* Objective sharing of training

* Explaining the Task, Time, Territory and Technology of the training

11:00 - 12:00 PM

* Sample experience sharing of the rearers about the practice they follow

* Generating discussion on the good practices and the problems faced by the participants in their current rearing practices

* Understanding the life cycle of tasar silkworm and linkage among silkworm rearers, graineurs and yarn producers

Tasar Host Tree Management

* How are you maintaining your host plant now a day?

* Package of Practices to be followed for management of Chawki garden and block plantation/ or natural host flora

* Plant, water and nutrient relationship in host plant management and moisture/soil conservation techniques

* Calculation of dosage of nutrients and other inputs required for the host plants

Disease and Pest management in host tree

* Sharing by the participants on disease that they observed on the tasar host plantation

* Listing the diseases of host plants and how it affecting the plants

* Identifications of diseases based on the symptom, time of appearance and their preventive and curative measures.

2:00 - 3:00 PM Lunch Break

3:00 - 4:00 PM

Field demonstration of the scientific practices

Travel to the rearing field for field practice

* On-field demonstration of the chawki rearing sites

* Assessment of carrying capacity of the rearing field (by ocular estimation method)

* Field practice of pruning and pollarding of the host plants

* Practice of Nylon net erection

4:00 - 4:15 PM Tea Break

4:15 - 5:00 PM

* Practice of disinfection of Chawki rearing site and prophylactic measures in host plants

* Practice of manuring and hoeing of the host plants in chawki rearing site

* Practice of soil and moisture conservation methods

* Practice of Foliar spray of nutrients

* Practice of Brushing site preparation

* How do you select the brushing site and prepare it?

* Discussion on the quality of rearing site selection and field disinfection, do's and don'ts

* Preparation for chawki rearing, chawki rearing under nylon net and its benefits

* How do you bring the DFLs and what is the present process of brushing?

* Care during DFL transportation and incubation at rearers’ level

* Discussion on hatching methods

* Discussion on brushing techniques

* Discussion on brushing management during continuous rains

* Rearing technology - Feeding technique, transfer of silkworms, dos and don’ts

* Importance of leaf quality at different stages of larvae

12:15 - 2:00 PM

Disease and Pest management in silk worm Rearing

* What are the pests in your rearing areas in present days and how do you control those pests?

* Pests & predators of tasar silkworms and their preventive & control measures

* What are the silkworm diseases prevalent during rearing at present and how do you control those diseases?

* Discussion on major diseases of Tasar silk worm, their symptoms and preventive & control measures

2:00 - 3:00 PM Lunch Break

3:00 - 4:00 PM
