Mr Ebert will be moving on from Tarro PS, with his last day being this Friday 3 rd June. As a result, Mr O’Connor will be taking over the teaching role in the 5/6 class till the end of the year, as the full- time teacher. This will give stability for our 5/6 children. At the commencement of Term 3, Mrs Randall and Mrs Bianchi will both return, in part time capacities and will work in the field of quality teaching and learning support roles across the school. They will not have a permanent class. This decision has been made to minimise disruption and impact, to our current 2016 class structures. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please feel free to contact either Mr Parkinson or Mr Cridland to discuss. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Ebert for his efforts this year as Relieving Assistant Principal and to wish him all the best in his future career. Half Yearly Reports Our staff has just begun the process of evaluating and writing half yearly student reports. Reports will come home at the end of term with parent teacher meetings scheduled for early term 3. This year, we are using a new program called Sentral, to generate reports. How can you help? It is often hard for many working parents and carers to volunteer in school. With this in mind we are asking that parents and carers let us know about any particular skills or workplaces which may be able to help us plan future projects. If you are interested in the possibility of volunteering your skills (keeping in mind they must be accredited to cover WH&S requirements) or work in a business we may be able to access. Please fill out the form below and return it to the school office. CAN YOU HELP? AIM HIGH TEAM

Reading Enhances Career

Knowledge

The AIM HIGH Team from the University of Newcastle will be coming to our school to deliver the Careers Through Reading Program to Stage 3 this week. The program aims to link the literacy skills learned in school to future hopes, dreams and positive career outcomes. Over 4 weeks our students will be guided through a series of books & activities designed to strengthen a love of reading and build upon their skills in writing, reading & comprehension. In small groups, led by the AIM HIGH crew, our students will read a range of texts (including a 3-D E-book), complete hands-on activities & have discussions about different jobs, careers & study options after school.

NO HAT, NO PLAY Just a reminder that Tarro Public School is a sun safe school – all students out in the playground will need to be wearing their school hat. Those students without a hat will be asked to play under the sheltered area near the office. STUDENT ABSENCES Sometimes students stay at home for reasons that are not acceptable. For example:

Birthdays

Too tired to come to school because of a

late night

Stay home with siblings or parents who are

sick

Staying away for a whole day when an

appointment booked for a short time in the

morning or afternoon.

The weather, for example it’s too hot, too

cold or raining.

Students staying home for these reasons will be marked as an unjustified absence.

Regular attendance helps your child:

o Develop the skills needed to access the world of work and other opportunities

o To learn the importance of punctuality and routine

o Make and keep friendships.

ANYTHING. MESSAGE TO PARENTS/CARERS Keep Kids Safe: #parentscheckthecheck! Parents or carers who engage the services of a private tutor or coach have an important role to play in helping to keep their children safe. From 1st April 2016 adults who provide private tuition or coaching services to children will need to obtain a new Working With Children Check. The Certificate for Self Employed People will no longer be valid after their expiry date and the certificate holders will need to apply for a new Working With Children Check. Parents or carers should ask their child’s tutor or coach for their name, date of birth and their Working With Children Check number. They must then go online and verify the tutor or coach is not barred from working with children in NSW. Verifying that a tutor or coach can work with children is quick and easy – just follow the simple steps www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/parentscheckthecheck you suspect that an adult is providing services to children without a Working With Children Check you can go online to make a confidential report or phone (02) 9286 7219.
