Hello, budding entrepreneurs!

Hurrah for the school holidays and a well-deserved break from schoolwork and exams! But there’s no reason why learning has to stop when school is out.

Dads and Moms — find out how you can help your kids exercise self-control and pick up good habits when you attend Help Children Develop Self-Control by financial literacy expert Swapna Mirashi. Attend Give ‘Pocket Money’? Teach Money Management!, also hosted by Mirashi, and pick up tips on how to set up a pocket money routine and impart financial lessons to your child. Details can be found on pages 8 and 9 respectively.

Understanding the basic principles of money management requires some level of math skill, and parents looking to brush up their kids’ mathematical ability can check out Magic of Numbers. Find out what amicable and social numbers are in this fun-filled programme designed to make math easy and engaging. More details on page 7.

June also marks the start of our annual Read! Fest festival and the ramp up to National Reading Day. Check out pages 14 and 20 to find out more about what’s in store for you and how you can participate.

Finally, celebrate Jurong Regional Library’s 13th Anniversary (page 12) and join us in bidding farewell to Tampines Regional Library (page 13) which will be relocating to One Tampines Hub.

ChEE-KEE: A PANDA IN BEARLANDAuthor: Sujean RimPublisher: New york: Little, Brown and Company, 2017.Call No.: Junior Lending Picture Book English RIM

Chee-Kee, a panda bear, and his family move to Bearland, which is filled with all types of bears, except panda bears. It is a new experience for Chee-Kee, as he tries to adjust to a new home and fit in with new friends. Eventually, he is able to use his wits and skills to save the day.

This is a wonderful, heartfelt story about diversity, what it is like to be different and why it is important to feel accepted. Children will also enjoy the illustrations, which are simple and lovable.

Title: The Hardy Boys: A Rockin' MysteryAuthor: Franklin W. DixonCall No.: JS DIx

I love the Hardy Boys series as I think this series has among the best mystery stories. In this story, Frank and Joe Hardy investigate the case of a missing guitar. The way the Hardy brothers go about finding the missing item is interesting and filled with suspense. I love the boys' determination and hard work in trying to help everyone.
