OVERVIEW

Language Arts Write a variety of imaginative writing for a range of purposes and

audiences, including short stories, passages and poems modelling from literature.

Select and use strategies during writing and representing to express and refine thoughts

Use speaking to explore, express, and present a range of ideas, information and feelings for different purposes and audiences

DAY ONE: THE WRITING PROCESS Group students Write a section of the story based on illustration assigned

Students asked to keep following in mind: Beginning, middle, end Actions, dialogue and expressions Characters Setting Objects Sequencing

DAY TWO: RECORDING NARRATION AND DIALOGUE

Students delegate characters

Instruction on using Sound Recorder

Record story and save

Scanning Images:• If available: students scan illustration and save to computer• If not available: illustrations scanned and saved to computer by teacher

DAY THREE: ASSEMBLING THE STORY Create slide and add illustration, text and recorded voice on Microsoft

PowerPoint (teacher demonstration)

Students email saved slide to teacher. Teacher compiles slides to create story. Create title and credits page.

Optional: Start electronic work portfolio

CLASS LESSON – YOUR TURN! Number off into 6 groups

Examine other pictures for proper sequencing

Create a story for your assigned illustration

Delegate characters

Present!

The sister and the brother left home and on their way to the beach the little boy is scared because there is a beach

ghost! His sister says “don’t be scared because I’m with you” The little boy says “I’m not scared anymore!”

They took a rest and they slept under the umbrella for a little while. They were in the car once they woke up

because their mom put them in the car.

MODIFICATIONS & EXTENSIONS

Modifications:• Work individually

• Students record voice with help of teacher, and have teacher create slides and show to class.

Extensions:• Add effects to text and/or pictures

• Co-ordinate text animation with voice

• E-mail and compile slides on their own

• Create own title and credits page

• Write own stories and create illustrations with Paint or scan own drawings
