Source of all that gives us life, we have turned away from your authority to our own small concerns. Forgive us for our failure to bear one another’s burdens, for boasting of anything but your cross, for believing in our own power to justify our lives, and for denying your call to take comfort in you alone. L: Peace! Peace is what we receive from God when you know that we are forgiven. Peace is what we have when you know that the destruction of sin cannot harm us, because you are not alone in your journey of life. Therefore, peace, my sisters and brothers! In Jesus we have received forgiveness, and we have been restored! P: Thanks be to God! L: And as God’s freed and forgiven people, let us exchange signs of reconciliation and friendship. May the Peace of Christ be with you. P: And also with you!

You are invited during our prayer time to come forward and light a candle as you offer your personal prayer or place your prayer card on the table.

Let us pray for the needs of the world, saying, Gracious God, hear our prayer.

God, our Mother and Father, we give you thanks that you have brought us to this new day. The beauty and power of sunshine, wind, fog, and rain are marvels to our senses, and in them we see how much we depend on your gifts. Even in the darkest storms, help us to see in nature’s might the guiding hand in which you hold your children. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

Pour out on us a spirit of grace and petition, and hear us in our need: that the law of faith which guides us may be our standard in judging the laws of land and church and culture, and that our lives be conformed to the faithful love of Christ. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

That we who call Jesus “Messiah” be empowered to carry the cross of insult as we work for freedom; that all nations may be steered by leaders who value each individual in their care; that all people may work for the good of everyone. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

That the paths we walk be wide enough for all people: for the homeless, for aliens in flight, for prisoners, for people of all colors, for all who are ostracized, for people of every sexual orientation and gender identity, for those dying of incurable or preventable disease, for all who you call your own. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

That children may grow up strong and kind; that we give thanks to you for new life; that families be strengthened for the sake of each member. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

That all people weakened through illness of mind or body feel your protective hand and our tangible care. That all who mourn will know the consolation of your love, Give to your people all that you see is needed. Gracious God, hear our prayer.

We pray that you bless all we name now in our hearts and aloud . . . . [here you may say aloud your prayers of petition and joy] Gracious God, hear our prayer.

And hear us now as we offer this prayer, the one that Jesus taught, saying ...

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

OFF4 A!8 With a Voice of Singing Martin Shaw

With a voice of singing declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia! Utter it even unto the ends of the earth, the Lord hath delivered his people, Alleluia! O be joyful in God, all ye lands, O sing praises to the honor of His name, make His praise to be glorious. — words adapted from Isaiah 48:20

*D*a204 #609 “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow”

*P4 F T!b 0_0 M DM7 (unison)

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts: ourselves, our time and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding the world with your love; through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

We Seal God’s Word Upon Our Hearts

T! S78 F ! LM’ S3

L: God be with you. P: And also with you. L: Lift up your hearts. P: We lift them up to God. L: Let us give thanks to God, our Creator. P: It is right to give God thanks and praise. L: Blessed are you, strong and faithful God. From the beginning your Word has summoned light and life. P: You give us breath and speech, that all the living might find a voice to sing your praise. L: All holy God, how wonderful is the work of your hands! P: You restore the beauty of your image when sin has scarred the world. L: As a loving parent, you gather your children. P: You fill us with longing for a peace that will last and for a justice that will never fail L: For us you raised up Jesus, the living bread, in whom ancient hungers are satisfied P: Healing the sick though bound to suffer pain, offering life to the world though doomed to die, Jesus, in self-surrender, offering his very body, proved love stronger than death. L: Creator God, let your Holy Spirit move in power over us and over our earthly gifts of bread and wine, that they may become for us the body and blood of Christ. WM F I 3

L: God of love, we remember the love of Jesus whom death could not bind, but who rose from death, and who continues to pour out love upon us. P: As the splendor of this love breaks in upon us, may it find us ever watchful in prayer, strong to respond, and faithful to the breaking and sharing of bread.

L: Gather us into communion with all your people. P: Then, at last, will all creation be one and all divisions healed; and we shall sing your praise, united forever in the name of Jesus Christ. L: Through whom, with whom, in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, P: all glory and honour is yours, wonderful God, for ever and ever. Amen

Christ is host of this table. Everyone, without exception, is welcome. We will receive the Lord’s Supper by coming forward and dipping a piece of bread into the cup. Please eat as you are served.

C883 A!8 Breaking of The Bread Austin C. Lovelace

'Twas in the breaking of the bread, just common daily bread they knew their Lord.

They were so blind they failed to find Him in sad events that crashed their world about them. But at the quiet close of day He walked beside them in the way; and as they sat about that simple board they knew their Lord.

O Master, open thou our eyes that we, like them in glad surprise may see Thee in the simple things of every day, and find Thee on our way.

'Twas in the breaking of the bread, just common daily bread they knew their Lord.

Adult Education Series Continues July 10

Our six-week program entitled “Reading the Bible for Understanding” continues next Sunday with session 4. We’re taking a fresh look at how to read the Bible with the focus on Gospels, letters, narratives, and poetry.

This is the first of four courses selected from the series with other courses rolling out over the next several months. There will be breaks in the schedules of these particular courses for other adult Christian Education programs.

Classes start promptly at 9:45 a.m. in Parlor 2.

Artists and Craftspeople Needed!

DPC is looking for artists and instructors who are willing to donate their time and sup-plies for a single class or workshop that teaches a craft, skill, or artistic technique to members of the greater Nashville community. This could be anything from crocheting

or knitting to an advanced painting or sculpting technique. At-tendees will be asked to make a contribution that will go directly to replacing DPC's sanctuary carpet. If you are an artist, crafter or instructor interested in teaching a skill at DPC, please fill out the online form found at:

www.locallymadeinnashville.com/dpc-volunteer-artistinstructor-sign

or email Justin Near at [email protected] with your details.

First Sunday Lunch Meet-up

Join us today, right after worship, at the Nashville Farmers’ Market for our first Sunday lunch meet-up. We’ll grab a table, you’ll get food from one of the fantastic vendors, and then everyone will enjoy a great meal and fun conversation. This is a great op-portunity for DPC folks to make new friends!

Nashville Farmers’ Market is at 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd.

Morning Brew A new Sunday gathering!

Morning Brew is now meeting Sunday mornings at 8:45 (or thereabouts) for discussion, meditation and prayer. The gathering will features good coffee, good conversation and good friends. All are welcome!

Morning Brew is a perfect opportunity for choir members, parents dropping kids off, early risers or anyone else with obligations later in the morning to enjoy a time of fellowship and prayer.

The group gathers in Morning Brew Lounge, right next to the Chapel on the ground floor. It’s the room closest to the alley entrance and looks directly out on the parking lot and mural.

Annual Paper Drive

Our annual paper drive ends July 17. Bring your offerings of paper goods to help us restock our supplies. We can use most anything made of paper: toilet paper; napkins, paper towels and drink cups; copy paper in either letter size (8-1/2” x 11”) or legal-size (8-1/2” x 14”); 100 lbs. card stock; poster board, rolls of first-class postage stamps;

construction paper, coloring books (with crayons) ... if it’s made of paper we can use it!

You can bring your donations with you on Sunday mornings or drop them by the church Monday through Friday during regular office hours. We’ll be collecting for a few more weeks. Then we’ll inventory your offering and report back on how generous everyone has been!

Limited Edition Print Dave Coleman created this linoleum block print for the plaque we presented to building manager Paulino Jarquin a couple weeks ago. Now you can have your own copy for a donation of $10 to the sanctuary carpet replacement fund (larger donations are welcome). The print is 5 X 7 inches on rice paper and will come in an 8 X 10 mat suitable for framing. Only 50 will be printed, Paulino has #1 and already others have been claimed. So act quickly! Put your name on the order form on the narthex bulletin board to reserve one today!

Parking

Parking for Sunday worship is in the Premier lot at 147 4th Ave. N. behind the church. 4th Avenue is one-way. You must come down 4th from Church Street. Parking in this lot is complimentary from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Parking vouchers are necessary to exit the lot without having to pay. To get one, just ask one of our greeters.

Our new Saturday breakfast ministry to Nashville’s homeless and urban poor is off to a great start. We need lots of help from DPC members and friends to assure its continued success. About 10 volunteers each week are necessary for serving, cleanup and hospitality.

If you are interested in volunteering for this new and vital mission, or if you would like to be a part of the team helping to coordinate these efforts, please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the narthex or contact Reggie in the church office ([email protected]).

Stuff About Children Check out our DPC Children’s Blog! Our Children’s Education Coordinator, Amy Krimsier Sterling, updates the blog weekly, dpckids.blogspot.com. When we baptize a child we all vow to help raise that child in our faith. Providing quality Christian Ed-ucation and nursery facilities is one of the ways we do so. Note to Parents of Small Children: We are glad that you and your children are wor-shiping with us. To help the service be more meaningful and restful for you, we have provided a nursery (ages 5 and younger) on the 1st floor. Please ask a greeter and they will be glad to help you. There is an infant changing station in the stairwell to your right (the stairwell with the elevator) as you leave the sanctuary.

Our Mission Gathering in the heart of Nashville, we are a community of disciples of Jesus Christ. We seek the welfare of the city as we seek the kingdom of God. We are an historic church working to be a welcoming and inclusive congregation. Together we actively share God's grace and love through worship, education and service, and through being an active voice in promoting justice and peace in our community and the world.

Our Values and Ethos We believe that every person is a beloved child of God, no matter how estranged or close that relationship may be. Where God's love is, there is no shame.

Our welcome extends to everyone, whatever your economic circumstances, your faith background, your racial or ethnic identity, your sexual orientation or gender identity, or your political affiliations.

As a diverse community we seek to intentionally embody God's radically inclusive and transformative love for everyone. With love and grace, we are called as a community to grow together as a voice for justice and peace - each as we are, with our unique human stories of joy and struggle.
