Loosen sleeper screws

(approx. 2 - 3 turns).

Move tension clamp in assem-

bly position (spring arms have

to rest on rail foot).

Tighten sleeper screws; mid-

dle bend of tension clamp

must contact the rib of the

angled guide plate. The maxi-

mum air gap is 0.5 mm. This

is achieved at a tightening

torque of approx. 250 Nm.

Assembly

maximum permissible

gap: 0.5 mm

Place all components of the fastening system

in preassembly position.

Tighten sleeper screws (tightening

torque max. 50 Nm).

Rail tensioning and creep resistance The rail is reliably held in aspring-actuated connection by the two spring arms with aspring deflection of approx. 13 mm and a toe load of approx.2×10 kN. This ensures the requisite high creep resistanceof the rail, which prevents thedangerous fracture gap inwelded rails. At the same time, this achieves a sufficientstiffness of the track grid.

The rail rests directly on the con-crete sleeper, only separated byan elastic rail pad.

The spring arms of the tensionclamp, which is W-shaped whenviewed from above, reliably holdthe rail on to the concrete sleeperin a spring-actuated connection.

The rail is laterally guided by theangled guide plates. These forma gauge-true rail channel. Theforces introduced through the railare transmitted directly to theconcrete sleeper via the angledguide plates without exertingbending or shear stress on thesleeper screw.

The fastening system has addi-tional stiffness as a result of themiddle bend of the tension clamp, which projects above the rail foot(steep curve of the spring charac-teristic). This prevents overload-ing of the spring arms and henceplastic deformation. The middlebend also serves to protect therail against tilting.

PreassemblyAll the fastening components can be manually or automatically preassembledat the sleeper factory. The only work remaining at the construction site is inserting the rail and tightening the system.Fastening components can neither be lostduring transport nor during track laying.

AssemblyThe sleeper screw is loosened by 2-3 turns. The tension clamp is pushed on the railfoot and tightened with a torque of approx.250 kN. A simple work step which requiresno special training. Assembly can be carriedout using simple commercially availablepower wrenches or automatic screwingequipment.

ReplacementAll components can be replaced, also thedowels.

Protection against tiltingAny uplift or tilting of the rail which mayoccur during maintenance of way or intight curves is absorbed by the middlebend after the small air gap (between the middle bend of the tension clamp andrail foot) has been overcome. Permanentdeformation of the spring arms is thereforeexcluded.

Different rail profiles on the same sleeperDifferent rail profiles, e.g. 60 E1, 54 E 1and 49 E 1, can be used on the samesleeper with the same track gauge simplyby exchanging the angled guide plates.

Gauge adjustmentA gauge adjustment of ±10 mm in steps of2.5 mm is available as standard.

Electrical insulationThe rail fastening system W 14 is com-pletely electrically insulated. No additionalinsulating components are required between the tension clamp and the railfoot.

Track maintenanceThe Vossloh rail fastening system requiresno regular maintenance.

NeutralizationNo fastening elements have to be removedfrom the sleeper for the continuous weld-ing of the rail (CWR). The sleeper screwsare merely loosened but not removed.

Height adjustmentThe Vossloh rail fastening system W 14 can be adjusted in height by using height regulation plates. This is also referred to as frost wedging in many countries.

cellenticUse of cellentic is possible. cellentic is aGerman registered trademark of VosslohWerke GmbH. Further registrations arepending in over 70 countries.
