SYMPOSIUM ON BUSINESS INITIATION FOR GERMAN PLANNING AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
With a rapid growth of the construction sector and nearly US$350 billion of projects that are currently in the planning or construction phase, Qatar continues to attract German construction, planning, design and engineering companies that are seeking opportunities in the local market. The German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK) held a Symposium on Business Initiation for German Planning and Service Providers held under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy in Germany. The event took place on Monday October 5th, 2015 at the Intercontinental Doha the City in the presence of 10 specialized German companies who were part of the German
Planning and Service Providers delegation that visited Qatar between October 3 till 7, in search of potential business and in the aim of exchanging their expertise with their local counterparts.
Attended by around 60 local private and public sector representatives who were interested to meet the 10 delegate companies and learn more about the German innovations in this field, the event included 2 presentations the first about Urban Planning from Germany conducted by Ms. Katharina Abul Ezz, Coordination Manager at Dorsch Qatar. Ms. Abul Ezz discussed the current trends of German Urban Planning which they are implementing locally through their projects.
On the other hand, the second presentation was given by Mr. Felix Hartenstein, Lecturer and Research Assistant from the Technical University in Berlin, who spoke about continuous development of Urban Planning and the importance of implementing environmental friendly techniques to ensure sustainable advancements for the generations to come. Following this lecture, each participating German companies introduced their businesses and showcased their services to the audience. The successful event joined both parties together at a networking lunch that came as a closure to the symposium.

6TH ANNUAL AHK & GBCQ CHRISTMAS DINNER EVENT
The sixth traditional Christmas Dinner, jointly organized by the German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK) and the German Business Council Qatar (GBCQ), took place at the Doha Marriott Hotel on December 4
th, 2015 with the support of Lufthansa German Airlines as Diamond Sponsor, Qatar International
Automobiles - MAN Truck & Bus Middle East and Africa as Platinum Sponsor, ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions MENA and Strabag Qatar W.L.L./Züblin International Qatar as Gold sponsors respectively and Vicomms as Marketing Partner. This year's version of the Christmas Dinner was well attended by 130 German and international entrepreneurs and guests, providing room for both business and family gatherings. Guests were invited to experience the traditional warm feeling of German Christmas celebrations. During the night, Santa Claus and Snowman’s appearance spread joy and excitement among the children. Furthermore, among the VIP guests was H.E. Mr. Hans Udo-Muzel, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Qatar. The organizers were represented by Mr. Boris van Thiel, Chairman of the German Business Council Qatar, who expressed his pleasure about the event. He highlighted that apart from the monthly GBCQ member meetings, socializing events present a perfect opportunity for business networking in a relaxed atmosphere. Among others, the highlights of the night were the presentation from the Theatre group of the German International School Doha and the raffle draws in which the guests won amazing prizes.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF GERMAN UNITY This year´s celebration of the Day of German Unity marked the 25th anniversary of German unification. More than 800 guests attended the German Embassy´s reception, which was generously supported by numerous German and Qatari sponsors.
The German International School Doha DISD presented a special show celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall 25 years ago. Guests of Honour were the former President of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr Christian Wulff, the Minister of Culture and Heritage Dr. Hamad Al Kuwari and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani.
EUROPEAN JAZZ FESTIVAL
The Second Katara European Jazz Festival which took place from 28 October to 1 November 2015 showed acts from seven European countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland). For the second edition of the festival the organizers could welcome an increasing number of visitors. For Germany, Matthias Schriefl with his band “Shreefpunk Reloaded” appeared on stage who offered a special variation of jazz music with an ironic folk touch.

SUCCESSFUL GERMAN PARTICIPATION AT IPC ATHLETICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN DOHA Around 1300 athletes from 96 countries showed spectacular performances at the IPC WC held in October 2015 in Doha. The German team won 24 medals: 8 times gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals. The German Ambassador and the former German Federal President Christian Wulff and his family attended some competitions and met with German athletes and coaches. Congratulations once again for this amazing success!
