COURSE DESCRIPTION: Physical Education: Part 1

• Graduation requirement, usually taken the first semester of Freshman Year.

• Throughout the semester, students will be taught skills in a variety of activities classified as lifetime fitness activities, team sports, net games, personal safety, dance, and Project Adventure.

• This course is designed to promote physical, social, and emotional development of ALL students, regardless of their athletic abilities.

• Develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to participate in health-enhancing physical activity throughout their lives

GRADING: How to keep your “A”

• 60%= Code of Conduct: Effort / Participation, Honesty/ Fair Play, Respect, Safety, Fun

• 35% = Being prepared for class• 5%= Bonus for standout in Code, ex. effort,

helping others, etc.• *In general, students who receive A+ are

students who not only do everything asked with a great attitude and effort, but also go out of their way to include all students.

PE 1 Procedure

• 10 minutes from the bell to enter locker room, change and be on the benches ready for class.

• Travel together to Gymnasium • Immediately get into squad lines• Attendance is taken• Warm-ups• Class Activity• Debrief and travel to locker rooms

CODE OF CONDUCT

The Code of Conduct is a direct reflection on your character. No one, including you, will remember how many P.E. games you won, but everyone will remember the character you exhibited in the process!

**The social skills taught through our code are key components for being not only being successful in our class, but also in life!

Proper Attire for Physical Activity

• Sneakers, designed for physical activity, and socks

• Change of clothes appropriate for exercise that also follow our school dress code: (t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants, nylon pants, shorts, etc.) **No spaghetti strap tanks, or pants/shorts below waist

***We will be outdoors most days the next few months. Dress in layers!

Medical Excuses

• All medical excuses must come from a doctor or school nurse.

• Alternative assignments assigned

Absence From Class

• It is your responsibility to speak with the teacher to find out what you missed. Arrangements will then be made for make-up.

• Over 3 “office” excused absences: make-up work assigned

• Unexcused absence =NO CREDIT! Must make arrangements with teacher for make-up

• First unexcused tardy: verbal warning

• Second unexcused tardy: meet afterschool with teachers
