Reading 50%Writing 30%
Spelling/English 20%
SpellingSpelling now requires an application
component in the testing…
10 words and 1 sentence are given to your child to study the phonic pattern being practiced in class.
5 extra words and 1 extra sentence will be added to the test to check for the student’s ability to APPLY the skills being practiced daily in our classroom.
SpellingWays to help your child study at home…
Ask them to spell words that are similar in patterns…
*If you can spell dive, can you spell drive?
*Look for patterns in the letters and find other words with the same patterns. *Talk about rhyming words.
MathOne of our Math goals this year is that each child become fluent in math facts up to 20 by the end of second grade.
Using flashcards and website games to practice math facts will help your child
develop fluency.
We’ll be using fluency checks to test our math fact knowledge in both addition
and subtraction this year.
One minute tests for fluency in math
facts have both addition and subtraction
equations to solve.
Three minute tests for fluency in allow for about 3 seconds
per problem…
Students must score 90% or better to advance to the next fluency level
Xtra Math https://xtramath.org
is a great way to practice math fact fluency on the computer here at school and at home.
Students are challenged to memorize the facts as they race against the online teacher to solve math fact
equations.
Each child has a unique sign in code that I will send home with directions to connect.
