About SVMThe Society for Vascular Medicine is

dedicated to improving the recognition

and care of vascular diseases; fostering

education and research in vascular

medicine; and providing leadership to

government, industry and the profession

regarding issues related to vascular

health. SVM includes among its

membership the major investigators and

opinion leaders in vascular medicine. The

field of vascular medicine encompasses

a broad spectrum of arterial, venous

and lymphatic disorders, as well as

the associated medical disorders of

hypertension, hyperlipidemia, insulin

resistance and diabetes mellitus. This

diversity and complexity of vascular

diseases requires knowledgeable

practitioners of vascular medicine to

provide cost-effective care.

Learning ObjectivesScientific SessionsAs a result of attending these sessions, the participant will be able to:OVERALL

Review the rational clinical approach to common chief complaints encountered in vascular medicine practice.

Apply the appropriate use of the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs); know how to choose the right agent and the right dose as well as the latest data regarding perioperative management and reversal of these agents.

Review the latest clinical trials relevant to the care of patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD), venous thromboembolism (VTE), venous insufficiency, non-atherosclerotic arteriopathies and aortic disease, and recently published basic and translational studies with implications for vascular medicine practice.

Review the data supporting the role of interventional therapies for treatment of iliac vein obstruction.

Describe the latest treatment approaches for superficial venous disease and lymphedema, including novel approaches to compression therapy and intervention.

Discuss the latest data regarding management of patients with acute aortic syndromes and complex chronic aortic disease and consider the emerging role of multi-specialty aortic disease centers in the care of these patients.

Compare the risks and benefits of extended anticoagulation for patients with unprovoked VTE.

Review the evolving landscape of health care in the United States and how vascular medicine specialists can be proactive in developing programs to align with broader efforts of health care reform.

Review the future of imaging technologies

HOW-TO-WORKSHOPS

Utilize strategies to engage in social media as vascular medicine specialists.

Compare interventional technologies for management of deep and superficial venous disease.

VASCULAR LAB SESSIONS

Review protocols for vascular laboratory in surveillance studies following arterial, aortic and venous interventions.

Discuss the role of non-invasive testing as a risk assessment tool for vascular and cardiovascular disease.

Apply duplex ultrasound in the management of venous disease.

Apply ultrasound machine settings to optimize images and minimize the potential for artifacts.

Visitors entering on the VWP must have machine-readable passports. Travelers without machine-readable passports will need to apply for a visa to enter the United States. Applicants for visitor visas should generally apply at the American embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence. Though visa applicants may apply at any U.S. consular office abroad, it may be more difficult to qualify for the visa outside the country of permanent residence. For additional information regarding obtaining a visa, visit the U.S. government website at http://travel.state.gov/content/visa/en.html. Travelers entering the United States from all countries (including Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean) must present a passport.
