Main Floor Plan& Exhibit Route

Energy waste is 66% of a Canadian’s footprint. By reduc-

ing the energy waste, & recycling those products instead

of dumping them we could seriously make a difference.

This exhibit focuses on how your electronics impact the world

and what you can do to make a difference. The graphics take

you through the space in a counterclockwise fashion. Starting with how to save

energy on electronics. It then moves you to think about how

dumping your electronics hurts the environment and then

explains how recycling is the solution to the problem.

STOP WASTING!By plugging your appliances into a power bar and turning it off when you’re not home.

PHANTOM POWERLots of power is being sucked from your electronics (sitting on standby) when you’re not home.

DO SOMETHING!Reducing your energy usage is the quickest way to reduce your carbon footprint!

The amount of carbon dioxide emitted due to the the consumption of fossil fuels by one person.

GUESS WHAT?

On average, there are

20 to 27 electronics sitting on standby in every North American Home.

THAT’S 10% OF YOUR ENERGY BILL!

Unplug your laptop when it is

fully charged - it is still sucking up

energy even when your battery is

100%.

Buy rechargable batteries for your

camera - they cost more, but save

you money in the long run.

Unplug your cell phone charger when it’s not in

use. Or electricity will continue to flow from the

socket.

Turn off the quick start button and bring down the brightness of

your TV to save on energy

The backlight on your phone eats up the most energy.

The camera’s digital display uses up the majority of the battery.

If your screen saver is on wastes a whole lot of energy.

The bigger your TV is, the more juice it needs to run.

Ask whoever made the gadget to take it back and recycle it

for you. Save on money, and get

them to think about how they are

designing things.

Recycle your old phone. It is

mandatory for every cell phone store in Canada to have a

recycle drop box for their cell phones.

Make sure the recyclers you use don’t export their

waste to developing countries! It will

pollute their air and water too!

You are already paying recycling fees when you buy new electronics, so why not use service that you’ve already payed for?

GUESS WHAT?

Only around 11% of our electronics are being recycled
