Message from Our Chief ExecutiveAt Hongkong Land, our success is built on excellence, integrity and partnership. This stands true for our business in Asia, with sustainability at its core.

As a leading property investment and management company in some of the most dynamic markets in the world, we are constantly working towards strengthening and integrating our core values in every project and every partnership.

While every market is unique, our strategy has always focused on managing and developing high quality properties that meet the modern demands of our customers. As we learn more about the social and environmental impacts of our business, the meaning of quality continues to evolve. Increasingly, our work requires more rigorous engagement, openness, know-how, and respect for the environment, our people, our partners and the communities we serve.

Shared commitmentSocial and environmental challenges impact everyone, in particular our future generations. Hongkong Land recognises both the importance of our own efforts, and the need for a global movement today in order to ensure a better tomorrow. For this reason, Hongkong Land supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. We plan to do our part by reinforcing our commitment to sustainability by building an infrastructure that aligns with our values, strategy and our shared commitment to sustainable business practices across Asia. Despite our many accomplishments to date, our eyes are set on recalibrating our sustainability strategy and enhancing our implementation methodology to meet the highest industry standards across our portfolio.

This will only be possible if everyone we work with feels empowered and equipped to hold our values, strategy and action plans at heart. This means at a minimum our commitment must extend beyond our own employees to include our local partners, suppliers, vendors and other stakeholders across the region.

Reporting as a driver for progressGiven the number of cities we operate in, and the wide range of partners we work with, meeting our goals will be an ongoing challenge that will require focus, determination and consistency. We believe that meeting this material challenge will take our business to a whole new level. A critical component of this goal is the adoption of international best practices related to our sustainability reporting.

Since our most recent report published in December 2017, our Sustainability Committee has been working towards aligning our sustainability reporting framework with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). To achieve this important goal, we have undertaken a comprehensive review of our existing sustainability efforts and are striving to collect and incorporate the relevant GRI indicators into the report content step by step. This year’s report, which covers our key sustainability data from January to December 2017, together with highlights of the related activities in the first half of 2018, helps move us closer to our goal of a GRI report in line with our financial reporting calendar.

Expanding our coverageIn this report, we have taken steps to integrate our sustainability efforts to present a more cohesive and holistic picture of our sustainability impact beyond Hong Kong. Our reporting also extends beyond existing properties to cover projects that are still under construction. Through showcasing our ongoing projects we seek to demonstrate that sustainability is an objective we embrace in all aspects of our business and at all phases of the development and property management lifecycle.

Looking ahead I am honoured to lead our business into the next phase of our sustainability strategy. While our commitment to quality has been unwavering for more than a century, its definition is now intrinsically tied to sustainability. Rather than resist this, we choose to embrace it. We see the challenges in the various markets we operate in, such as tightening environmental regulations, increasing operation and compliance costs and heightened public scrutiny around our energy footprint, and social and environmental impact, as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to sustainability as a driver for success.

Our efforts to enhance energy efficiency, our collaborative approach with all our stakeholders, and our relentless pursuit of quality and excellence is pushing us to explore new frontiers. I look forward to continued partnership with all our stakeholders in the region and our shared commitment to sustainable business practices.

The United Nations Sustainable Development GoalsThe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and bring about peace and prosperity for all. Working in the spirit of partnership, the SDGs are guidelines and targets for creating positive change for both people and planet.

Stakeholder Engagement and Materiality

SDGs and Sustainable Buildings Out of the 17 published Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), eight of them are highly relevant to the property sector.

At Hongkong Land, we align our business throughout the region with the goal of developing sustainable buildings, which is seen as crucial to combating climate change and accelerating the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon built environment. The design, construction and operation of our properties reflect, drive and potentially mitigate the impact of these issues on occupants, owners, communities and society at large.

Through the implementation of Hongkong Land’s sustainability strategy, we commit to doing our part in tackling this global challenge.

Looking ahead: Materiality assessmentOur goal is to undertake a formal and thorough materiality assessment as a critical step in upgrading our sustainability strategy and implementation. The materiality topics to be identified through this process will reflect the significant economic, environmental and social impacts of our business and the factors that influence the decisions of our key stakeholders.

This process will include: • Defining the purpose and scope of reporting• Obtaining stakeholder feedback• Identifying and categorising key topics• Gathering information about the impact and importance of key topics• Prioritising key topics• Engaging senior management• Devising strategy and action

• Business partners, shareholders and investors

• Tenants and customers

• Employees

• Suppliers/contractors

• Wider community

• Government

• Other property developers

Engaging our stakeholdersOperating in an increasingly volatile time and across the diverse culture and business environment of Asia, we rely on our engagement with our key stakeholders to enhance our competitiveness by identifying challenges and opportunities, innovative solutions and industry developments. Engaging with our stakeholders helps us determine what sustainability issues are

material as well as how they should be prioritised. We have identified these primary stakeholders as critical to our success.

Engagement with our stakeholders is reflected in the variety of channels through which we engage with them, including engagement surveys, training, regular communication materials, participation in community activities, employee engagement programmes and our overall corporate governance.

As we continue to review, expand and refresh our sustainability strategy, robust stakeholder engagement will be increasingly critical to our success.

Our emerging stakeholder engagement strategy will seek to:

• Clearly define our relationship with stakeholders

• Clearly define our relationship to global, regional and local issues

• Set short- and long-term priorities that resonate with key stakeholder groups

• Support materiality analysis and drive stronger strategic planning

• Build credibility and support internally and externally

Contributing to a Greener Asia

Our adherence to the highest sustainability standards steers our concerted efforts across the region, whether in managing our existing premier properties or planning for new developments. Our efforts range from carbon emission reduction, energy-saving, water-saving, waste recycling, indoor air quality management and various community engagement initiatives. It is through our shared dedication that we do our part in making Asian cities greener.

Reducing Carbon Footprint in Hong Kong Our efforts in reducing our carbon footprint have been spearheaded by our Central portfolio in Hong Kong. Since 2008, Hongkong Land has implemented an array of measures targeted at reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint for the 12 premier commercial properties in our Central portfolio.

The success of these measures means that between 2008 and 2013, we have surpassed our original target of reducing our carbon emissions by 20%. Since then, our commitment towards sustainability has driven us to set an even more ambitious target of reducing our carbon footprint by 30% by 2020 as compared to 2008 levels.

Saving energy: Less is morePlaying our part under the Sustainable Development Goals to combat climate change, Hongkong Land has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to meet our ambitious target on energy saving and carbon emission reduction.

Key Indoor Air Quality Measures:• maintaining a sufficient fresh air

supply in all areas of buildings

• using high-performance filters to reduce airborne particulates

• systematic inspection and maintenance of all air-conditioning and ventilation systems, including regular cleaning of air filters and ducting

• rigorous control on levels of indoor pollutant sources by using no- or low-emission materials

Our work in maintaining an unfailingly high level of indoor air quality in all areas of our buildings in the Central portfolio was commended through the award of a total of 18 certificates, covering each of the buildings in our Central portfolio. The Indoor Air Quality Certificate issued by the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR Government for 2017 came with the recognition of Hongkong Land as one of the top 10 participants. Our long-term commitment received recognition through special certificate that signifies our 10-year commitment to the IAQ certification scheme.

efficient model, and upgrading our lighting system to LED.

Energy-saving in the regionIn Singapore, One Raffles Quay and Towers 1 to 3 of Marina Bay Financial Centre completed a project of replacing the back of house lighting system with LEDs in the last quarter of 2017. This contributed to One Raffles Quay leading the way in energy saving by achieving a 7.7% reduction in 2017 compared to 2016 levels.

One Raffles Link came second with a 5.6% reduction. Further savings are anticipated through replacing conventional lighting system with LED lights and installing Direct Current fan coil units (FCUs) in its retail shopping mall as we move into 2018.

Thoughtful designs such as choosing a building orientation that enhances natural lighting without excess exposure to sunlight and floor circulation that encourages natural cross-ventilation helps minimise electricity consumption at our recently completed Singapore residential building J Gateway. Motion sensors are installed in staircases and lobbies, whereas the installation of solar panels on rooftops provides heated water to communal toilets and changing rooms.

Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, World Trade Center II, a new commercial building in Jakarta, Indonesia, has recorded a 5.3% reduction in energy consumption compared to 2016 .

One of Hongkong Land’s newest developments, LCMall, located in

China’s megacity Shanghai, is equipped with energy saving systems that optimise energy performance, including a centrally monitored electronic metering network. The air conditioning and refrigeration system minimises or eliminates the emission of compounds that contribute to ozone depletion and global climate change. The vegetated roof not only helps reduce surface temperature but also restores a green landscape to this premium location. Other features such as preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles incentivise the public’s use of climate-friendly private vehicles.

Another property in China – Landmark Riverside Park in Chongqing – features an integrated chiller plant and Intelligent Energy Management System that has reduced power consumption to 25% below the national standard. This amounts to an estimated annual saving of RMB 1.4 million on electricity cost.

Partnering for impactWhen it comes to meeting our energy saving and carbon reduction targets, our vendors, contractors and suppliers are our key partners for success. Our adherence to stringent screening criteria enables us to assess and select suitable partners who are aligned with our environmental management strategy. Once selected, we work closely with our plant operators to reduce energy consumption and carbon emission through regular meetings that keep us up-to-date on new enabling technologies and innovations.

Up to the end of 2017, our carbon reduction efforts effectively prevented 189 kilo-tonnes of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere. If the same result is to be achieved by planting trees, this will require planting 8.2 million trees in one year. The cumulative electricity saved is 170.8 million kWh, which represents a significant saving of an average of US$3.2 million in annual operational costs.

These achievements were made possible through the ongoing application of a range of measures including optimising our existing system operation, implementing major upgrades, retrofitting and modernising our Central portfolio through lift modernisation, replacing our chiller plant with an energy-

Reducing water consumption in the region In Singapore, the use of automatic water meter readers at One Raffles Link allows for close monitoring of water usage. Together with the heightened awareness of our tenants on the importance of reducing our collective water footprint, we recorded a 5.6% reduction in water usage compared to the previous year.

In particular, compared to 2016, the total water consumption for public use at One Raffles Quay was reduced by about 6%, while the same for Marina Bay Financial Centre was reduced by about 3.8%. This was attributed not only to close monitoring of water consumption, but also due to the adoption of maintenance

practices, such as monitoring water flow rate and making appropriate adjustments based on the latest water efficiency guidelines.

In some of Hongkong Land’s newer properties, a key step to incorporating water efficiency is the adoption of new sustainable designs. Two of our joint venture properties in China – Landmark Riverside Park in central Chongqing and LCMall in Shanghai – have been fitted with high-efficiency water fixtures. At World Trade Centre II in Jakarta, water fittings have been rated "good" or "very good" under the Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme.

Apart from our commercial developments, Hongkong Land’s commitment towards reducing our water footprint also shines through in our residential buildings. In Chongqing, New Bamboo Grove Phase One features rainwater recycling and intelligent plant watering. At J Gateway in Singapore, storage

tanks collect rainwater from open areas for washing and watering of plants, while sub-meters monitor water usage for facilities such as swimming pools. Units are also equipped with appliances falling under the “Water Efficient Labelling Scheme”.

Innovative technology improves water qualityAn organic process called Effective Microorganism Technology in which micro-organisms are used to treat polluted water and improve water quality and odour has been adopted at our projects in Cebu, the Philippines. A process that does not involve the use of synthetic chemicals, it was first used by Hongkong Land at Mandani Bay, Cebu to clean up nearby polluted waterways. This highly effective technology was introduced to the local government to be used on other selected locations. This was highly welcomed by the community to improve local water quality.

Recycling: Together we make a differenceOver the years, our robust waste management system has been a core part of Hongkong Land’s sustainability strategy. Our dedication to making our recycling system as comprehensive, efficient and accessible as possible to all our tenants and visitors has taken us on a journey of continuous review and improvement.

Recycling in Hong Kong A leading example of our regional recycling effort is our Central portfolio in Hong Kong, where our recycling programme covers a wide range of materials including paper, aluminium cans, plastic bottles, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent tubes, ink-jet cartridge and glass bottles. Together with our tenants, a total of about 920.9 tonnes of waste were recycled in 2017, significantly reducing our waste footprint and the amount of waste being sent to landfills in Hong Kong.

Go paperless! In our business operation, paper is saved through adopting a multitude of thoughtful practices at source. The adoption of an electronic procurement system and e-directories, and the use of mobile inspection and patrol system have not only saved paper but increased efficiency. Making conscious choices around the use of environmentally friendly products such as stationeries and paper towels certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) help us keep our ecological footprint down. To support tenants to recycle paper, we provide carton recycle boxes to tenants for free.

Keeping glass bottles away from landfillsGlass is 100% recyclable. Working mainly with our food and beverage tenants, our partnership with the Environmental Protection

Department enabled us to launch a pilot programme for glass bottle recycling in our Hong Kong Central portfolio, which in 2017 alone saved 60.8 tonnes of glass bottles from going to waste.

Giving space for recyclingTo make recycling easier for our tenants, Hongkong Land has put in place dedicated spaces in various properties across different cities.

In Hong Kong, dedicated refuse collection rooms in all our buildings in Central provides for storage and enables smooth onward processing of recyclable materials by designated external contractors, from whom we periodically obtain relevant data and conduct due diligence in relation to the recyclable materials’ logistical path.

In mainland China, easily accessible dedicated areas for collecting recyclable materials and their storage are currently in place in Landmark Riverside Park, Chongqing and LCMall, Shanghai.

Looking ahead, plans are in place for us to place clearly marked recycling bins in convenient locations in various shopping malls across the region to promote waste sorting at source.

In this regard, Hong Kong is leading the way by installing recycling bins in shopping malls in our Central portfolio, and in public common areas in Jardine House and Exchange Square.

Data sharingRecognising the importance of environmental management systems and certifications, we provide support and coordinate with tenants in their applications for green certification and provide data for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting. As part of this process, we seek to understand tenants’ need for data and supporting information, and provide relevant input to facilitate tenants’ preparation of corporate carbon disclosure and environmental reporting.

Supporting our tenantsAs a leading property management and development company, Hongkong Land sees our tenants as key players in our sustainability efforts. The benefit of working in partnership with our tenants is clear: our success and theirs are interdependent. Trends and developments in sustainability are fast-moving, and we strive to stay at the cutting edge of progress by actively reaching out and offering support in whatever ways we can to our tenants.

Two-way communicationThrough sharing our expertise and experience accumulated over the years in our sustainability efforts, whether at lunch seminars or meetings with individual tenants, we support our tenants in developing and reinforcing their own sustainability practices. Special attention is given to strengthening collaboration with anchor tenants to mobilise implementation of innovative technologies or measures to reduce energy consumption.

Reducing construction wasteInnovation on better, greener building materials and construction processes is pioneered in Chongqing where building parts have been pre-cast in an off-site factory and sent to project site for assembling. This process not only improves material quality and efficiency, but also reduces wastage and site pollution.

Shared dedication with contractors, vendors and suppliersApart from teaming up with our tenants to keep recyclables away from the landfills, Hongkong Land sees our contractors, vendors

and suppliers taking up an equally important role in recycling. Proactive screening and pre-contract assessment of external partners forms the basis of aligned commitment as to the importance of waste management and recycling in all our new and ongoing works.

Our regular meetings with our designated cleaning contractors ensures that their performance meets our recycling protocol, and provide opportunities for continuous discussions and improvement on waste handling practices.

Not letting food go to wasteAt WF CENTRAL, Hongkong Land’s flagship commercial development in Beijing, we installed a food waste decomposer machine in Q4 2017. Transforming food waste into organic compost to be used for landscaping in WF CENTRAL, the deployment of this decomposer is a significant step towards reducing our waste foodprint at source. With a daily capacity to recycle 500kg of food waste, the decomposer has repurposed food waste generated by 50% of the 12,000 sq. m. of restaurant space since April 2018.

In view of the success of WF CENTRAL’s food waste decomposer and the support of the food and beverage tenants, Hongkong Land has been investigating the feasibility of installing similar machines in Hong Kong.

Carbon transparencyWith the objective of driving companies to improve carbon management, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a global platform for companies to disclose their carbon emission data and benchmark the performance of their actions to mitigate climate change. Our Central portfolio participates in the CDP on an ongoing basis by disclosing our carbon emission data and the range of actions we have taken to combat climate change.

Leading by exampleAt Hongkong Land, we believe that a sustainable future for all is possible only if we work together. That’s why Hongkong Land is a long-term, dedicated and active participant in a broad range of government-led and non-governmental public initiatives that seek to raise awareness of the imminent environmental crisis and the role of businesses in minimising our environmental footprint.

Taking a stance with green chartersAs leaders in adoption of best operating practices in energy efficiency and carbon reduction, we take pride in the energy performance across our Central portfolio in Hong Kong. In line with our strategy is our long-term commitment to a number of

city-wide environmental charters initiated by the HKSAR Government, including:

• Carbon Reduction Charter

• Energy Saving Charter on Indoor Temperature

• Charter on External Lighting

• 4Ts Charter (Target, Timeline, Transparency and Together)

Collaboration for common goodHongkong Land continues to contribute to industry organisations working to uphold and elevate sustainability standards by being a Gold Patron member of the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and a Council Member of the Business Environment Council (BEC).

Expanding our scope of collaboration with industry organisations, our representatives took their seats in various panels and committees including the Steering Committee for HKGBC BEAM Plus New Building Revamp and the Expert Panel for BEAM Society.

Examples of how we have leveraged our core efforts on energy efficiency and carbon reduction for common good, we participated in two significant initiatives this year that helped shape the future of low-carbon buildings in Hong Kong:

• The development of the supporting policy for the Property and Construction Working Group for Low-Carbon Hong Kong

• The development of policy recommendations to the HKSAR Government on facilitating investment in low-carbon building through a new BEC project titled “Investing in Energy Efficiency: Enhancing Hong Kong’s Policy Framework”

Building a low-carbon communitySince 2009, Hongkong Land has participated and encouraged our tenants to join in the WWF Earth

Hour campaign, a global event to raise awareness of climate change and promote energy saving.

With overwhelming support from our tenants this year, 208 retail shops and offices in our Hong Kong Central portfolio participated by switching off non-essential lighting for one hour, and 20 tenants have switched off their external façade lighting. Hongkong Land’s commercial buildings in Asia, including Singapore, Hanoi and Macau, also participated in this year’s event.

Since 2013, we have also sponsored the Hong Kong No Air Con Night organised by local green group Green Sense.

Thrive in Collective Effort

Fire, Life, Health, Safety & Security AuditIntroduced by the Risk Management Committee of Hongkong Land in 2013, the unified Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security (FLHSS) auditing system that has been implemented across all our buildings in Hong Kong has been extended to our properties in Singapore in 2014, to Hanoi, Jakarta, Phnom Penh and Bangkok since 2015, and will be extended to cities in China in early 2019. The Risk Management Committee is chaired by the Chief Executive and comprises directors and senior managers. They provide safety directives, set safety performance targets and endorse safety policies.

450questions

Full compliance with the FLHSS

Annual FLHSS auditsThe rigorous annual audit conducted by an independent international fire safety and security risk consultant includes a professional third-party inspection, assessment and evaluation of our daily operations, and ensures our full compliance with the FLHSS and all legal requirements. The FLHSS focuses on six important categories, under which a total of 35 sections and over 450 questions are to be answered:

• Fire Safety

• Health and Safety

• Occupational Health and Safety

• Business Continuity Plan

• Security

• Health and Safety Governance

The time required to complete a full FLHSS audit depends on the size and complexity of the building, but typically involve these processes over a period of 4 to 6 days:

• Document review

• Site inspection

• Tenant visit

• Fire and life equipment testing

• On site emergency drills evaluation

• Interview of property managers, technical managers, building supervisor and engineers

• Post-audit meeting with independent auditors

As an ongoing process of review and improvement, each audit will culminate in a detailed report that identifies our strengths and potential areas for improvement. Being a regional exercise, the challenges of this audit are vast: the whole process involves over 450 audit questions regarding a total of 28 buildings of varying age, design and structure in different Asian cities, and over 400 property management staff working across diverse cultures, speaking different languages and adhering to different local legal requirements. Despite these challenges, our time and effort in conducting the regional FLHSS forms the important bedrock of our growth and performance.

Security Risk AssessmentSecurity of our buildings is a crucial bottom line of our entire business.

As such we have invested substantially in upgrading our security systems and improving physical security in all our buildings. In addition to the annual FLHSS audit, a Security Risk Assessment (SRA) is conducted on each building once every three years by an external security consultant.

Ensuring emergency preparednessThroughout the region, regular and comprehensive drills and training is the linchpin in safeguarding speedy and informed response for our staff, wardens and tenants alike in the event emergencies. This section highlights some examples of outstanding practices that are the building blocks of health and safety system.

The SRA covers all aspects of security risks present in our business, from global threats to local incidences, even the seemingly smallest issues such as the finer details of the security arrangement in each building are taken seriously.

Over the past three years, security audits have been conducted in a number of key properties in various cities.

General Threats AssessmentsIn addition to the SRA, threats assessments have also been conducted by an independent security consultant in September 2017 in all cities across Asia where Hongkong Land has a business interest in. The results are reassuring, risks have been rated as “Low” or “Very Low” in all the cities assessed.

Emergency drillsRegular practice is critical in establishing competency for effective handling of emergencies such as power failure, medical emergencies, lift trappings, typhoon, flooding, pandemic and chemical spillage. At Hongkong Land, our safety drills extend beyond fire drills to cover other emergency response regime and a number of simulated situations.

A range of safety drills are conducted for tenants, staff and in-house vendors, including fire

drill, bomb threat drill, building intrusion exercise, thermal scanning drill, in-place protection drill, sprinkler pipe burst drill, automated external defibrillator (AED) drill and the Community Emergency Preparedness Programme (CEPP). Practical training on use of fire extinguisher & hosereel was provided to staff and tenants. Fire safety awareness talks were held to educate tenants and staff. Fire risk assessment inspections were also conducted for retail tenants.

Fire drillsFire drills are the most fundamental yet important drills regularly conducted in all Hongkong Land properties, an important process that involves not only Hongkong Land tenants and staff, but also vendors wherever possible.

Smart site management system adopting facial recognition featureOn site at Yorkville South in Chongqing, in conjunction with the local government, we introduced an innovative construction site safety measure called the Smart Site Management System 3.0. This system features facial recognition technology on workers access and a tracking system that improves site management, efficiency and safety. The systems comes with an APP based live centralised site monitoring and reporting system to identify and follow-up on any site issues including safety hazards and works interruption. Also featured in this state-of-the-art system is a site training and experience centre providing mandatory health and safety

training to all personnel working at the site.

Wherever possible, we adopt new technology that improves safety, that includes the use of the Climbing Scaffolding system, a system that is typically used for commercial building construction, for residential constructions. Although this is a slightly more costly process, it can effectively reduce the risk of accidents.

under OHSAS 18001 and areas such as mechanical and electrical, cleaning, building and construction, building maintenance unit and security.

In EXCHANGE SQUARE, Cambodia, comprehensive FLHSS awareness training was provided to all fit-out contractors.

A commitment shared with vendorsIn all our properties, vendors are our key partners in delivering our commitment to the most stringent standards of health and safety. Hongkong Land invests heavily on training and equipping our vendors with the most up-to-date knowledge on workplace safety.

In 2017, Hong Kong and Cambodia went over and above standard practices by providing health and safety training for our vendors.

In Hong Kong, our 30 major vendors attended a health and safety briefing designed specifically for them, covering the relevant codes of practice

Staff safety trainingIn Hong Kong, a total of 825 man-hours of health and safety training had been organised by the property management team in 2017.

To ensure adequate emergency response readiness across the board, all new staff joining Hongkong Land is required to attend compulsory training to familiarise themselves with all aspects of health and safety and the high standards laid down by the FLHSS.

In Singapore, technical and concierge staff at One Raffles Link and CityLink Mall completed the Occupational First Aid Course Training, whereas in EXCHANGE SQUARE, Cambodia, our staff attended First Aider and AED training. In addition, our tenants and customers are safeguarded by well-trained personnel, whose training covers crucial skills such as:

• First Aid

• Fire response

• Lift mantrap

• Product safety

• Anti-theft

• Emergency response

• Pipe burst

• Sanitisation

• Cleansing of air-conditioning system

• Doors and windows safety

• Traffic coordination

• Regular checks on ventilation systems

Shared responsibility: Tenant Fire MarshalsAs a pioneer in engaging staff and tenants in Fire Marshals, fire safety training is thoughtfully designed to incorporate expertise around fire prevention, fire marshal duties, the use of portable fire-fighting equipment and the escape and evacuation procedure in our Fire Orders manual. In Hong Kong, 22 fire marshal training workshops were held in 2017 for over 400 tenants’ employees. We rely on the active participation of all our tenants in the prevention of fire in our buildings and ensuring safe evacuation of all occupiers.

Integrating Social Inclusion

Hongkong Land’s commitment goes beyond managing and developing sustainable properties. Our vision is to create sustainable communities in the places we operate in. Doing our part to enhance the lives of local people is an inseparable part of our work as a leading brand.

Upwards and Onwards – Walk Up Jardine HouseThe event held on 18th March 2018 marks the 33rd year of Walk Up Jardine House. Each year, participants run or walk up the steps leading to the penthouse of this 49-storey, 600 feet tall building to raise funds for MINDSET, shining a light on the important yet often neglected topic of mental health. The funds raised goes to support the promotion of mental health awareness in the community, reduce the stigma associated with people living with mental illness and provide practical support for charitable initiatives in the sector. This year, a total of HK$3.3 million was raised for this worthy cause by over 600 contestants and participants.

Organised by the Jardine Ambassadors – young executives from across the Jardine Matheson Group who spearhead the community initiatives under MINDSET – Hongkong Land is

a proud supporter of this fun-filled event. This year’s theme “Colour Up Our Lives” seeks to inspire everyone to bring positive energy into their lives. A total of 75 corporate teams competed in the race, with another 43 individuals who raced to the top. 20 students from MINDSET’s “Health in Mind” school programme – a community initiative that promotes awareness of mental health issues in secondary schools in Hong Kong – also raced in four teams.

Injecting novelty and meaning to this year’s event, a new category has been added to the contest, inviting over 150 friends recovering from mental illnesses to join in six NGO teams to vie for the NGO race winning title. We are grateful for the dedicated support from our NGO partners, namely Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, Caritas, Castle Peak Hospital, Kwai Chung Hospital, New Life, Richmond Fellowship and The Mental Health Association.

Committed to inclusionHongkong Land is committed to supporting MINDSET, a registered charity in Hong Kong established by the Jardine Matheson Group, through various initiatives.

Preparing students for successDoing our part to groom future business leaders in Hong Kong, Hongkong Land has been participating in the Business School Partnership Programme sponsored by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce since 2005. In May 2017, a group of 25 teachers and students from St Rose of Lima’s College visited the Hongkong Land Training Centre in Jardine House to participate in a practical and mind-opening interview skills workshop conducted by our

Promoting education in ChinaQuality educational facilities are crucial to the long-term well-being of any community. In China, Hongkong Land has provided support by building two primary schools in Chongqing at Yorkville North (with a capacity for 2,700 students) and Central Avenue (a capacity for 1,350 students) which were subsequently handed back to the local government. In addition, Hongkong Land has also set up a RMB 100 million education fund to support local education and teachers’ development in the community.

Conservation in ChongqingConservation has always been one of our sustainability goals. In June 2017, our Chongqing office, participated in the premier of charity film “Kekexili Protector”, a film that narrates the experience of patrol team members who protect Kekexili – a high-altitude plateau in Qinghai province – and its wildlife which has accumulated over 900,000 live streaming viewings since its launch. Importantly, we also provided vehicles to support the volunteers at Kekexili to assist in their daily operation.

Art in the CityMaking art inclusive: A tactile audio exhibitionHongkong Land partnered with social enterprise Beyond Vision Projects to curate “Central Beyond Vision”, an exhibition that allows both sighted and visually impaired audience to develop a deeper connection with the iconic scenery in Hong Kong through tactile painting and audio description.

Music for allHongkong Land has been a long-time host and sponsor to the annual Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival. A series of Community Concerts were held at The Rotunda, Exchange Square to bring music closer to the public.

Digital RevolutionCollaborating with world-renowned Barbican Centre, WF CENTRAL brought the acclaimed Digital Revolution exhibition to Beijing in January 2018 with the support of the British Council. Making its debut in Asia, a total of 140 pieces of art work provided an immersive experience into the transformative power of art.

The Serpentine Pavilion BeijingA milestone for WF CENTRAL’s ongoing vision to engage and build community through art and culture is the co-commissioning of the Serpentine Pavilion Beijing, the first presented by the Serpentine Galleries outside of the United Kingdom. A diverse series of social and cultural activities will be held from June to October 2018.

HR colleagues. As part of the visit, the students had the opportunity to visit our Centralised Monitoring Centre and the Landmark Atrium under the guidance of our

Property Management staff, to allow them to gain valuable insights into not only our daily operation but also our professionalism.

Family time for “left-behind children”Left-behind children in rural China faces numerous challenges as their parents seek out work in cities. In early July 2017, Hongkong Land invited 20 left-behind children from three schools in rural Chongqing to a week-long trip to visit Madame Tussauds and SEA LIFE aquarium in our Landmark Riverside Park in Chongqing, reuniting with their parents and broadening their horizons. As part of the “Brightening the Future of Tomorrow’s Children” programme, the visit was organised by 93 Society and strongly supported by the Company.

MINDSET Fun Day: Act to express Another annual event organised by the Jardine Ambassadors is MINDSET Fun Day, which seeks to bring together our colleagues and people recovering from mental illness to facilitate mutual understanding. This year, Chung Ying Theatre Company was invited to teach participants how to communicate feelings and improve self-understanding through drama.

Opening doors for MINDSET beneficiariesEvery year, Hongkong Land offers summer work experience to two to three students from MINDSET’s in-school ”Health in Mind” programme with the objective of broadening these young people's horizons. Between 2007 and 2018, we have offered work experience opportunities for 27 Form 5 or Form 6 students.

Separately, Hongkong Land also provided work experience opportunities to 23 MINDSET service users for four different job positions in 2017 to 2018, with the objective of supporting the service users to familiarise themselves with office environment before they reach out for full time and promoting social and community acceptance.
