Why We Switched

NCEA ‘s National Standards and Benchmarks-21st Century Skills

We were using the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and were switching to the CCSS

Wanted aligned Interims Have decided to use the Smarter

Balance Test in 2014

Our Results

Went paperless (Was that a transition!) Getting ready for the new test Interim formative tests Working toward Data Director Moving to computer adaptive testing Not everything went that well!

A word about Interims

Piloted in five schools Could give them three times Cost effective Scored by scanning

Only a few scanners worked Ended up doing them myself Downloaded tests and answer sheets by school Scoring not what expected

Would we Do this Again?

In a Word: YES, but with some conditions

Don’t assume all principals are ready Make sure the scoring center is ready to

provide what you need Demand professional development-don’t

let anyone tell you that “nothing has really changed”

In Summary: what’s different?

Fewer tests, with longer timing Aligned to the common core with reports

that will show this New reports such as Quantiles More reports included Interim tests available
