NONPROFITECRWSS

U.S. POSTAGE PAIDORTONVILLE, MIPERMIT NO. 85

As we look back over 2018, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide new content, entertaining programs, and enhanced services to our community. But we aren’t stopping there—we have many exciting plans for 2019! For example, we pored over your comments from the Strategic Plan survey and as a result we are making the following changes to our library hours:

• Sunday 1:00-5:00 p.m. (Jan 6- May 19 and Sep 8 - Dec 29) -- We will provide these hours through 2019 and then review our door count numbers to determine whether or not to extend them into 2020.

• Friday 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. -- Many of you asked for later hours so you can pop in after work for books or DVDs for the weekend.

• Saturday 11 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. – Our door count shows that we get very little foot traffic before 11:00 a.m. AND many of you asked for later hours.

• Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.- 8:30 p.m. Many of you suggested we are open too late, so we shaved off a halfhour which will still allow us to have evening programs and community meetings.

Another enhanced service we are happy to introduce is automatic renewal. Your Brandon Library materials will automatically renew up to two times UNLESS an item has another patron hold on it OR if there is a problem on your account. Items borrowed through MeL will not automatically renew. We also decided to level the playing field, so all OVERDUE fines will be waived as of December 1, 2018.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Brandon Library to you and yours!

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Hello Friends!

“What in the world would we do without our libraries?” – Katherine Hepburn

That is my favorite library quote; it is so true and succinct.Public libraries are an incredibly important community resource. Everybody knows they are the place to go to borrow books and audio/visual material. Do you know libraries serve their communities in many other important ways? For example, libraries provide free educational resources. They help support those in need. They help boost local economies. Libraries help preserve history and truth. Libraries help connect communities. These are just a few examples of how libraries serve their community.

At the Brandon Township Friends of the Library we are volunteering our time, energy, and talents towards extending our Library’s capacity to serve Brandon Township. We do this through gifts of money, which we earn from book sales and other activities. Please join us in our efforts. I invite you to become an FOL member and a Brandon Township Library advocate!

Thank you, Tom Roberts, FOL President
