St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the Holy Spirit at work. Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
St. Pio Bible Study Please join the "Acts of the Apostles" Bible study, as we experience the acts of Peter and Paul and God's plan for
us as we go out on mission like the Church's pioneers. Classes are 10 consecutive weeks begin-ning Monday, September 9th from 10:30 to 12:30pm, and Friday September 13th from 6:30 to 8:30pm in the Social Hall. St. Pio Marriage Enrichment
St. Pio Parish "Beloved Mar-riage Enrichment" classes will be held for those married couples who seek to have Christ at the center of their mar-riage. Please join us beginning September 19th for our monthly classes ending May 21st. All classes are from 7-8:30 pm and meet in the conference room.

Mass Intentions ~ Did You Know?
A Mass can be offered for a person who is still living. Though we often think of having a Mass said for those who have passed away, Masses can be offered for those who are still alive. The Council of Trent says that Mass may be said “for the living and the dead, for sins, punishments, satisfactions, and other necessi-ties.” In other words, if you know someone who could benefit from the spiritual graces that come with having a Mass said on their behalf, there is no need to delay in doing so. You can have a Mass said in Thanksgiving or for a celebration. Again, most people remember to have a Mass said for the death of a loved one and a few may think to have a Mass offered for a special intention or friend who is suffering, but rarely do we think of having a Mass offered for a celebration! Is there a better way to show our gratitude to God? Masses can be said for birthdays, anniversaries, in celebra-tion of the reception of the sacraments, or for prayers that have been answered! Because the Mass is the highest form of worship on Earth, there are many fruits and grac-es that result from having a Mass said. The reason that this tradition has been passed on for centuries is because of the many spiritual fruits that result from this form of prayer. The celebration of the Eucharist is the highest form of worship in the Catholic Church because we unite ourselves with Christ’s sacrifice on the cross in worship of his Father. St. John Paul II emphasized the graces that come when a Mass is offered. “The Church believes that she will be heard, for she prays in union with Christ her Head and Spouse, who takes up this plea of His Bride and joins it to His own redemptive sacrifice.”

St. John John and his younger brother, James, were sons of Zebedee, a Galilean fisherman, and his wife, Salome. The brothers were among the first disciples called by Jesus after their being partners with fellow disciples Peter and Andrew as fisherman. Along with his brother, John was often called a “Son of Thunder,” since he was initial-ly somewhat arrogant and volatile, but who mellowed as his walk with the Lord pro-gressed. The brothers were a part of Jesus’ “inner circle” and John also had a position of authority in the early church at Jerusalem and as leader of the church in Ephesus. John was the only disciple to be present with Mary at the Crucifixion and was also with our Lord at his Transfiguration. He first contributed to the New Testament author-ing a Gospel and three epistles. John’s symbol is the eagle which denotes his “soaring high” with the ideas he advances in his gospel writings. Near the end of his life, John constantly repeated the phrase “Children, love one an-other!” He believed it was the Lord’s most important commandment. St. John is the pa-tron saint of love, loyalty, friendships, authors, and protection against poisoning. St. John was exiled by the Roman Emperor Domitian to the Island of Patmos. Here, he had a vision which became his account of the end times when Jesus will return and Sa-tan will be utterly defeated. This became his fifth work to be included the New Testa-ment: the Book of Revelation. He died on Patmos, his death due to natural causes, the only disciple to do so.

Music Notes
Many have asked, “Where do you come from, Mark?” I attend-
ed St. Clare de Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park. I was baptized there, received first holy communion and recon-ciliation at St. Clare. I was an altar boy, choir boy, safety patrol officer, band member, and played guitar in the folk group. I attended their grade school for all 8 years. I was involved with stage lighting for their famous Kaleidiscope theater series as well. I attended Austin Catholic Prep High for my freshman year only as they closed at the end of the school year. I attended De La Salle Colle-giate, my father’s alma mater (My mother attended nearby St. David’s) for my re-maining 3 years. From there, I was off to St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indi-ana. Famous for its Core program and the location for the film Brian’s Song with James Caan in 1973. They had a tremen-dous music program for a college of just under 1000 students. They also had a re-nowned Sacred Music Masters program which was held during the summer. St. Joe’s closed in 2017 after 129 years in Rensselaer. I attended courses at Marygrove College as well, focusing on Music Appreciation and History. Outside of Sacred Music, I have played top clubs and casinos in MI, IL, OH, IN, and Ontar-io, Canada with the Glen Eddy Band, Still Rain, Under Pressure. From 2008-2011 I played with the country outfit 101 Ranch out of Chicago opening for major acts like Toby Keith, Gretchen Wilson, Luke Bry-an, etc. I was in offset printing for over 20 years. This industry has gradually disap-peared. In 2017, I decided to pursue Mu-sic Ministry full-time.

Christian Service
Increasing your Faith Take your unbelief to God.
Ask him to fill you with the Holy Spirit & with hid desire. Surrender yourself completely to him. Be humble before him & confess your sins and helpless-ness. Be like the man who said to Jesus. “I believe; help my unbelief” (Mk. 9:24)! Always remember that faith is a gift from God. None of us were born with it; none of us cam create it in ourselves. We must humbly ask for faith. Asking for faith in prayer is the way we received it when we were first saved, and it is the way we receive it each and every day of our lives. Karen Hilbert Christian Service Coordinator
Special Request to St. Pio Parishioners
During the holiday season we collect turkeys and hams to be given out to needy families in our area. The response each year is phenomenal! We will be giving gift cards to area gro-cery stores and allow our clients to pur-chase their own turkey or ham. We will be helping a total of 100 families between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are asking for your help with donations of either cash or gift cards to Meijer, Kroger or Aldi’s. The amount of the gift card can be ei-ther $10 or $20. If you can sponsor more than one gift card, that would be greatly appreciated. Your donation may be placed in an en-velope marked “TURKEY OR HAM” and put in the collection basket at Mass, or dropped off at the Parish Office.
Thank you ahead of time for your generous spirit in helping those in need,
