Summer By Daniel U’Ren

Summer time is

near! As the rain

subsides and the

rays of sunlight peek through the

window, it is easy to get distract-

ed with a desire to just go outside

to revel in God’s creation. Along

with summer comes change: a

change in focus, a change in

attendance, a change in sched-

ules as school lets out for sum-

mer vacation. In the words of the

theme song to a Disney TV show

“Phineas and Ferb”:

“There's 104 days of summer vacation

And school comes along just to end it

So the annual problem for our generation

Is finding a good way to spend it

Like maybe... Building a rocket

Or fighting a mummy Or climbing up the Eiffel Tower”

Well, ok, so we may not do some

of those things, but I do hope

that you find a good way to

spend it. I also hope that it in-

volves God and Church this sum-

mer as we find ways to spend the

summer here. Come to think of

it, you might be able to build

rockets this summer at Vacation

Bible School! On July 26 and 27

there will be a weekend VBS re-

treat here at the church with the

theme of “Blast Off”. Talitha

Thomas is collecting names for

volunteers and craft supplies such

as paper towel tubes. Please get

important event that will be

geared for the entire family.

spend your summer!

Pastoral Support Team

By Carolyn Knowles

The Pastoral Support Team will be meeting once a month with Pas-tor Daniel. We met for the 1st time last Thursday night, June 5th.

The Pastoral Support Team is set up according to the WOCC bylaws Article VIII, paragraph 4. The Senior Minister Search Committee serves as this team. The members of the Team are Charlie Conner, Hope Lairson, Fern Melton, Charles Mohr, Wendy Wilkerson, and Carolyn Knowles.

Our goal is to provide focused, consistent support for Pastor Daniel. Being the primary care-giver for the congregation, Daniel needs a supportive environment to be effective and to be re-newed. The team wants to pro-vide a regular channel of commu-nication for cultivating an open, affirmative, and creative relation-ship between Daniel and the con-gregation enabling the church to fulfill its mission effectively.

We know you also want to sup-port Daniel and his family. Why don't you start by introducing yourself to Daniel and to Stepha-nie? You may have already done it once, but they have to learn over 200 of our names and faces. It will help them if you reintroduce yourself.

You may not recognize Daniel's wife, Stephanie. After she was introduced when they first ar-rived, she cut off most of her

beautiful long blond hair. She had been growing her hair for a good cause. She donated her hair to Locks of Love to be made into wigs for cancer patients. Her hair is still beautiful, it is just shorter.

While you are reintroducing your-self to them, you might also want to wish Daniel and Stephanie "Happy Anniversary!" They cele-brated their 11th wedding anni-versary this last Saturday, June 7th.

The Pastoral Support Team would like to thank you for your contin-ued prayers for Daniel, Stephanie, their daughter Kiersten, and their sons, Aidan and Liam.

We can all support Daniel and the church by continuing to pray for the church, our staff members and our ministry to each other and our neighbors. Our prayer support will do wonders for Dan-iel, the rest of the staff, and our congregation.

A Grateful Heart By Janey Merry

I want to express my abundant appreciation to this church and all the wonderful, loving people that make me feel so welcome. I am being absolutely pampered here in the office. First, brand new blinds are installed. I have to thank the Craft Fair ladies, espe-cially Sandra Cook, who used their proceeds to purchase the updat-ed decor. The blinds are an amaz-ing contribution; it opens up the office with so much sunshine. I really feel like I’m part of the

beautiful, forested scene just be-yond my windows.

Next, a new A/C unit is installed above the church office. They wanted to make sure it didn’t break-down in the heat of sum-mer, so now I can enjoy the cool without fear of it disappearing.

Soon, a new security system will be finished. I will be able to stay in the office while speaking to visi-tors at the door through an inter-com. I’ll also be able to unlock the front door with a just a push of a button.

A few times, I’ve had visitors bring me yummy treats! Fern Melton was so sweet to bring a bag of candy to refill my depleted candy-basket. Sandra Cook now knows my weakness for cokes. She was stopping at Sonic during Happy Hour on the way to church, and she called to get my order. Jerry and Linda Cobb came in one day, and during our small-talk conver-sation, Braum’s frozen yogurt was mentioned. They left after their church business but returned to bring Cathy Routon and me a deli-cious cup of frozen yogurt! I’m blown away with the kindness of people when they think of me and go out of their way just to be nice. It really brightens my day.

I would run out of space if I named every person who has come through the office just to tell me something encouraging or complimentary. Working in a place where people like and want you makes a world of difference. I love coming to work every single day, and that feeling won’t fade.

Make up photo sessions will be scheduled in the near future at another location. Contact the church office if

you are interested in getting your photo(s) taken.

R.O.C. Kids Summer Program

Would you like to make a lasting difference in the life of an ur-

ban child? We know that countless children living along N.W.

10th Street have limited resources and opportunities over the

summer. As a result, many struggle to keep learning and grow-

ing in healthy ways, and some are even missing important daily

meals. R.O.C. is planning a summer day camp for kids in our

community to address these issues. The children will have the opportunity to go on several field trips and

receive significant tutoring in a loving, Christian environment. We will also provide a free lunch for them

and any other hungry families in our community.

We need your help. We need prayer partners who will pray for our R.O.C. Kids

this summer that God would use this program to transform lives. We also need

sponsors to support these kids so that we can provide this opportunity to strug-

gling families at no cost. You can sponsor one child in the program for only

$230 or you can sponsor one week for $40. We also need sponsors to help us

send several kids to our annual church camp, which will cost an additional $150.

If you would like to sponsor a child in any way, you can send your donation to

Reaching Our City at P.O. Box 272513, OKC, OK 73127. Make sure and note

somewhere that it is for the “R.O.C. Kids”. If you would like more information

or are interested in volunteering, please contact Rev. Jennifer Couchman at

[email protected] or 405.440.9994 ext. 105
