Application Deadline is 5 p.m.

March 12, 2015No late applications will be accepted.

Meals & RecreationMeals are enjoyed in university dining facilities and local restaurants. Outside of workshops, participants experience university life through afternoon recreational activities and evening projects.

EligibilityThe eligibility criteria for SES are determined by the purpose and content of the program, as well as Santa Clara University’s Strategic Vision. This program aims to motivate more students to pursue engineering study and workshop content is on a broad, introductory level. Santa Clara University’s Strategic Vision also emphasizes education in “service to society, especially on behalf of those in greatest need,” which is in line with our Jesuit identity. As such, the following criteria have been set for program participants:

• Students who will have completed their sophomore or junior year of high school by July 1, 2015• Students who are interested in broadly exploring the fi eld of engineering and its various disciplines• Students who have little to no exposure to engineering through high school coursework, extra-curricular activities or other programs• Students who lack the means to access engineering courses and programs will be given priority. • Women and other underrepresented groups in the fi eld of engineering are highly encouraged to apply, though this is not a limiting factor for program participation.

CostAll program, room, and board fees for participants are provided, resulting in no onsite costs for participants. Attendees are responsible, however, for their own transportation to and from campus.

OverviewThe Summer Engineering Seminar is a special summer experience for high school students who are curious about engineering. The program is designed to give participants a brief introduction to the engineering profession, the academic expectations of college, and university life. It provides participants with a chance to explore the possibilities of engineering as a career while living in university residence halls, in hopes of fostering a deeper interest in future engineering study.

LocationParticipants stay on the Santa Clara University campus, in the heart of Silicon Valley, and attend workshops in the Bannan Engineering Center.

WorkshopsEngineering faculty teach specially designed workshops spanning the following engineering disciplines: Bio, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Web Design. The format of these workshops includes lectures, interactive activities and labs. Participants attend all workshops for a broad exposure to the various disciplines and careers within the fi eld of engineering.

ApplicationTo be considered for this program, applicants must submit the following:

1) A completed online application, which can be accessed from the SES Website:www.scu.edu/engineering/undergraduate/ses.cfm

2) The online application provides space for a 200-300 word essay addressing the following: Why are you an ideal candidate for the SES program? How do you think you can benefi t from the program?

3) The SES online instructor recommendation form completed by a high school math, science, computing or technology teacher. This form can be accessed from the SES Website:www.scu.edu/engineering/undergraduate/ses.cfm.To verify authenticity of the submission, recommenders will be asked to upload a scanned or photographed copy of their school ID (or state-issued identifi cation card).

Each year we receive many more applications than we can accomodate for the SES program. For program consideration, applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance (particularly in math and science), strength of instructor recommendation, and alignment of application with program goals. Applicants will be informed of their status via email by the evening of Friday, April 24.
