    President’s Message

I sincerely hope that everyone has had a chance to take a little time off over the summer break to recharge the batteries and prepare for the year ahead. The summer is a great time to reflect on the past year and also to plan the year ahead, but it can also be a time to remember why we do what we do. I love the first few weeks of classes when we meet our new students and start to build relationships with our ensembles. Every year is different and comes with its own challenges. But building a team that comes together to create something that no one can create on their own is truly magical, and I wouldn’t swap jobs with anyone. Whether you are working with young children, teens, college students, or community members, we are all in a position to change lives. Some days it might not seem like we make a difference but we do.

ACDA is an organization I believe very strongly in. We have made some changes within the organization and the structure of our state conference and honor choirs. All changes were made with our members in mind, and the executive board has worked hard on ensur-ing that our honor choirs and our state conference are of a very high standard while encouraging growth in membership and involve-ment. I encourage you all to take a look at our updated website for more details and to encourage choral musicians in your area to join our organization and take part in our conference.

I highly value my choral colleagues and love the opportunity to speak with you and find out what is happening within our state. I hope to see you all at our conference in January.

    West Virginia Wesleyan College

59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201

The 4th Annual Choral Festival will be held Saturday, April 6 on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

groups. 2019 registration will be available soon via the acdawv.org website.

The format for the festival is: each choir is asked to perform 12-14 minutes of repertoire which will then be

followed by an onstage clinic with one of the adjudicators for a total of 30 minutes on stage. Immediately after

the choir's performance, the ensemble will be escorted to the sight reading room. Sight reading consists of

clapping and counting rhythms and sight singing. The sight singing is based on the voicing of the choir's repertoire.

Info can be found soon on http://www.acdawv.org/wv-state-choral-festival.html.

Festival 2018 adjudicators were Meredith Bowen from Radford, Paul Mayhew and Bradley Naylor from Ohio

    The Morgantown Youth Choir (MYC)

The MORGANTOWN YOUTH CHOIR (MYC) began as the Morgantown Children's Choir (MCC) in 2011. The goal of the Morgantown Youth Choir is to bring music, culture, arts and pleasure to the region’s chil-dren and families, thus creating strength, character, and opportunity for its members. Through a wide range of choral music, our youth will experience other lands and languages all while learning about vocal technique, performing arts, and goal achievement through individual accomplishments and teamwork. Not to mention a huge amount of fun and a range of experiences. We invite you to join us. We are open to all young people in the Morgantown area, from about age 10 into the teen years. Feel free to contact us with your questions. The Morgantown Youth Choir welcomes young singers who wish to share and develop their artistic tal-ents while enjoying music-making in a friendly fun setting. For potential new members, an informal trial sit-in is recommended, followed by a chat between the director and parent, to determine the child's suitabil-ity, because repertoire is carefully chosen to accommodate the ensembles' needs for music with a wide range of styles and difficulty. Acceptance will be based on age, musicianship, and suitability to the pro-gram. We have the right to refuse membership based on the above criteria. For younger choralists, be sure to check out our 'stepping stone' classes (details can be found on these webpages under Group Classes and Large Ensembles):
