MATH

In Unit 7, I learned about pattern block fractions, equivalent fractions, probability of events and a little bit of decimals.

Some things I am very good at are pattern block fractions and equivalent fractions.

I would like to show you how I do the partial product method.

I was in Ms.Cole class for Unit 8. I learned about area and perimeter. I understand the formula’s for area and perimeter. For triangle the formula is bxh÷2=a, and for rectangle the formula is bxh=a.

I will be starting Unit 9 next week. I will learning about fractions, decimals and percents for Unit 9. I will learn how to convert among fractions, decimals and percents.

SCIENCE

This trimester I learned about magnetism and electricity. First I read an article about Magnus Gets Stuck that explained how he discovered magnets that stuck to his shoes called Lodestone.

Then I researched what attract or do not attract to a magnet. Then we experimented how many washers could a magnet could hold. This is called force. My class and I did a response sheet. Ms. Frazier was testing us how much we learned about magnets so she know what to teach you. Then we wrote down some of the vocabulary word’s definitions and also drew a picture to represent what it looks like and it is better to label it. I learned how to draw schematic drawing. I had a experience with Shayna with circuits. After the experience, we drew a schematic drawing of our circuit. The sheet told us how to draw a schematic drawing and the symbols for example for a motor it is a circle and a capital m inside the circle. Next I wrote about parallel circuits that Ms. Frazier read out to the class. Ms. Frazier put up a poster so we could copy it in our science book. I drew a T chart, on the left it is about a Series Circuit and a picture of it in a schematic drawing. On the right it is the same but it is about parallel circuit and a drawing. Since that we learned a lot about circuits we experienced of advanced circuits. After I did a weekly vocabulary on Science.

Social StudiesI learned about the dynasties of China. The dynasties I studied were the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming and the Qing dynasties.

I went to the Shanghai Museum for a field trip. Some things I saw and learned about were:

The sculpture, bronze, ceramics, calligraphy, my favorite was going to the sculpture gallery because all of them make me so curious of what happened in their time.

Next, I am learning about Modern China from the end of the last dynasty from 1912 to the present date.(share time line with parents)

I am presently learning about how our economy works in China. I know that there are many factors that affect our economy. For instance, economy is how she or he earn money, people want to move here because people come here to take jobs and earn money for their family and buy food. In China there are natural and man-made resources. For example, oil, trees and cottons is a natural resource in China and textiles are man-made. In China there a lot more natural and man-made resources.

READINGThis trimester I read Hero and Baby books. My partners were Shayna, Justin and Taegyu. My book club group had 3 classmates in my group. My book club’s name was “Insidious”.

While reading I learned many different strategies to help me improve my skills. Some of the strategies are:

I used Post-its to write the internal and the external of a character. I used the bookmark that Ms. Frazier gave me to write down vocabulary words. I used the chart to write down the setting, main character, mood and technology and the vocabulary words. I also used the dictionary and the Thesaurus when I didn’t understand a word. We empathy the characters feeling to feel what hard life they had that time.

When I would meet with my book club friends after reading a designated number of pages we would discuss some of these issues.

My book club friends will discuss about the author’s purpose of writing this story we have different ideas so we share our ideas to each other. If one of us found a song or a belief, we will discuss or ask the teacher if it is true or not or to see if the character is a real person. We would ask each other what a word mean or we could just use a dictionary. We also discuss if we read any new characters while we are reading the book, so we could write it on our chart for the main characters box and for our reading poster about our book. We discuss about the characters belief to see if we also believe in it and the characters traits.

The genres I enjoy the most are:

Adventure books like The secret of the Cacklefur Castle I didn’t know what the real author is but it said that it was written by a mouse called Geronimo

Stilton. Fantasy books like The Kingdom of Fantasy also by Geronimo Stilton, and Mystery books like The Ghost of the Shipwreck by Geronimo’s big sister called Thea Stilton. She don’t actually be in the story, the story is about four girls who was named after Thea called The Thea Sisters. Their names were Violet, Nicky, Pamela and Colette.

Some areas I feel I could work a little harder at attaining are:

Using the bookmarks and writing down vocabulary words because I want to use more extraordinary words like filthy not ordinary words like dirty. I could use more extraordinary words for writing stories at home or school.

Some things I feel I do my best at in reading are:

Discussing with my book club friends because we don’t argue or be loud we just agree or help each other to understand something or help them add something if we missed out on something we didn’t write down.

I do/ do not read every night for at least thirty minutes and record this in my planner. I have been successful/ need to improve upon this homework assignment. My favorite place to read at home is:

In my room on my bed eating biscuits or fruits because it is warm and quiet and I have privacy so I could read peacefully. I make sure that I read at least 40 minutes every night. I have been successful on this homework assignment.

Writing

This trimester I wrote a realistic. First I thought of ideas from ordinary moments to get my idea for my topic. These were some of my ideas:

•My friend and I argued but we solved it by saying sorry or helping each other so we will forgive each other.

• I went to horse riding and the horse always sneeze or they bite the metal chains in their mouth.

• I went to a museum of dinosaurs and there were a lot of different kinds of dinosaurs.

After that I developed the main character of my story. My main character(s), name(s) are Michelle. Some of their internal and external characteristics are listed in my composition book.

Later, I made a story mountain. A story mountain is a plan that tells the beginning, middle and ending to your story.

A story mountain is a plan that is planning your story. When you are going up the mountain, there are little problems while you are building up to the big problem and when you get to the top, it is the worst problem. When you are going down the mountain you have to solve the problem. At the end the conclusion comes.

Once I had my plan I had my plan I was able to write a rough draft. I will show you my story mountain and rough draft. Our class used a rubric to assess our writing. This rubric explains what is expected of a fourth grade writer. I went over this rubric with my teacher before and after I finished my writing piece.

The next thing, I learned in writing was how to write poetry. I learned there are many different styles of writing poetry. Some styles I learned are:

Haiku Cinquain, Couplets, Free Verse, Concrete, Diamante, Color Poem, Emotion Poem, Acrostic and Alliteration.

I will show you my poems on my blog that I uploaded using an application called ISSU. It is like a magazine or book with pages that turn.
