Teacher Interview by Faith Marquardt and Abbi Virgil This month for the teacher interview we interviewed Mr. Albrecht. Mr. Albrecht is the 7th grade science teacher and the coach for the high school boys’ basketball team. Our first question was “What is your favorite thing about school so far this year?” He replied, “The temperature was nice.” The second ques-tion was, “Do you prefer the 8th or 7th grade class?” He said, “8th because they got a more mature attitude over the summer.” Anoth-er question we asked was, “What was your favorite thing about the 7th graders?” He replied with, “They are fun and they ask a lot of questions.” The next question was, “Least favorite thing about the 7th grad-ers?” He replied, “They talk too much.” The next one was, “What is your favorite thing about the 8th grade?” He said, “We are a smaller grade.” “What's your least favorite thing about 8th grade?” he said “Nothing.” He went on to say that, his favorite hour this year is his planning period and favorite hour last year was 4th. We were actually in that hour. We then asked, “What is your favorite thing to teach in sci-ence?” He replied, “Physical Science.” If he could teach any other subject other than science, he said “Math, because it is challenging.” Our final question was “Do you have any advice for both the 7th and 8th graders for the school year?” He said, “Continue to get better habits and continue to work hard.”

2017 Eagles Boys Basketball

By: Avery Clark and Tori Marchetti

In this edition we will be talking about boys’ basketball. The season is just taking off; the seventh graders first game was a loss with a final score of 18-21. Although the seventh grad-ers did not walk away with the W, they still put up a good fight. On the other hand, the 8th grade Eagles were victorious in their game against Amboy with a final score of 40-22. We decided to interview Issac Reber, Evan James, and Mr. Cann, 3 active members in our school's basket-ball program.

Seventh grader, Evan James is #54 and he is a point guard. He plays because it runs in the family, therefore his inspiration is his dad. Since the eagles have only played one game, they don't have any known competition to be threatened by. Evans favorite part of the sport is playing defense, because it's a rush stealing the ball.

Eighth grader, Issac Reber is a center and his number is 35. Issac says basketball is a

great sport and he loves, “putting in that work.” He also enjoys traveling and making memo-ries with his fellow Eagles. Issac’s in-spiration is Russell Westbrook, his rea-soning behind this is since Russell is a good player. As we concluded the in-terview, Issac add-ed, “Let’s kill it Ea-gles!”

Mr. Cann is the 7th grade coach for both girls’ and boys’ basketball, and he also teaches 7th grade ELA. This is Mr. Cann’s third year coaching boys’ basketball, as well as his first coaching girls’ basketball. In Junior High Mr. Cann actually played in the same gym as our current teams! Coach Cann says he hopes to see a limited amount of turnovers going to the other team throughout the season. He claims that if the boys do limit their turnovers our close com-petitors will no longer be close. Mr. Cann states, “We don't have many games this year, so get out and support your eagles!”

Mystery Person

By: Jenae Bothe

This month’s mystery person is a female. She has brown eyes and brown hair. She’s around 5’ and ½’’ tall. In school, she is involved in stu-dent council. Some of her hobbies are reading books and sketching. While she had no favorite food, her favorite color is mint green. The subject that she enjoys the most in school is literature. The mystery person’s favorite teacher so far has been Ms. Leamanczyk. If you know who this per-son is, please come and tell Jenae.

Liam Dickson-Harriet scrambles around his oppo-nent.

Autumn on Parade Gracie Kelchner and Megan Thompson On the morning of October 6th, a well-known, annual event occurred in our small town of Oregon. Its known as the Autumn on Parade, a three-day long celebration to cele-brate the arrival of Autumn. The first day consists of many organizations setting up their booths to share their creations. But in the afternoon is when the action starts, then you can set off to explore the many booths people have come to set up. On the 7th, while the booths continue to grasp the attention of many, silently all start to pre-pare breath taking parade that takes place the following day. Bright and early Octo-ber 8th is when the magic hap-pens. All of the floats start ap-pearing on the sides of the streets, awaiting for their time to shine. Then, when the times comes, the parade begins. It was a beautiful Sunday: sun shining through the trees, cloudy skies, and the aroma of pizza fills the air. At 1 o’clock in the after-noon is when the magic happened. Float by float, they begin rolling along the parade route, seeking their gratefully earned attention. Our OHS cheerleaders, OHS band, 6th grade band, and the marvelous DLR band performed. We cannot forget the Jesse White Tumbling Team, South Shore Drill Team, Tebala Shrine Klowns, impersonators, and many family-owned businesses. All in all, it was a great way to spend the weekend. Whether you were in the parade, or just there to take in the view. It was a breathtaking experience, and a great way to connect with friends and family members. If you couldn’t make it this year, make sure you catch it next year, because it is definitely worth the watch!

Please note that our next issue will be a combined November/December issue and

will be published just before Holiday break in December!

IT Movie Review Comparison By: Lindsie Van Dyck and Miguel Vazquez

The 1990 Version TV series adap-tation of Stephen King’s “It”. Directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. Runtime is 193 minutes. Separated into episodes, which in-cludes the “Loser’s Club” as adults and children. The 2017 Version Rebooted version of the TV series. Di-rected by Andy Muschietti. Runtime is 135 minutes. Separated into two movies, also known as “chapters”. The first chapter is the “Loser’s Club” as children, while chapter two is them as adults. Differences and Similarities Both movies had mainly followed the plot. They kept all the same characters, and con-flicts (while the new one added more). We don’t know about the rest of the story for the reboot, since it is not out yet. I n the older one, it wasn’t “action packed”. It was boring and bland. While in the new one, they actually were able to make things actually creepy. Take Pennywise, for example. In the old one, it was just a clown. It just did unsettling things, but made them look weird because of its appearance. In the new one, it was actually scary. Its appearance put you on edge, and sometimes be unpredictable. The older version didn’t go much detail about the kids, except that they all were “losers”. The newer version shows, and tells, a lot about the kids. They have backstories, fears, motivations, etc. You don’t see a lot of that in the older one. The characters, also, felt more “alive”. We thought the new version of “IT” was better. It kept us on edge, and made sense. While the older one almost made us doze off. Neither of us had read the original story, but we got a better under-standing of it in the newer one.

The South Shore Drill team is always sure to please.

DLR Choir Holds a Fall Concert Wesley Immel and Abi Miller On October 10th, 2017 the DLR Choir had performed their Annual Fall concert. The concert had featured three songs. One of the songs was Kuimba, this is a Swahili song which means to sing. The choir also sang Wade in the Water, Jubilate, and Alleluia. Several students were acknowledged and congratulated for trying out for ILMEA, which is a music competition. The ILMEA concert will be November 18th, 2017 in DeKalb IL. Overall the choir portion of the concert was very nice, and we are looking forward to what they have prepared for the future.
