One might ask, “What is school spirit?” or “Do I have any school spirit?” School Spirit is the proud and supportive attitude that students and teachers have toward their school. Yes! When you wear school colors, join clubs, and at- tend school activities and games, that means you have school spirit. Here at George White, with the collaboration of Mr. Bow- er, Mrs. Sweeny, Mrs. Ives and a few other teachers they decided that it would be a great idea to boost school spirit by having all of the grades participate in different activities to com- pete for spirit points and win the ultimate prize: a trip to the Palisade’s mall. Original- ly, the idea of having such a contest came from Mr. Bow- er, Videography teacher the school’s AV Club. According to Mr. Bower, when Mr. Ber- gamini came to this school as the new principal, he noticed that there were no school col- ors or anything that screamed “George White”. Everything was just generic. “I noticed that when I was in middle school, we were very enthusi- astic about school spirit. There was a friendly contest to engage the students in school affairs.” With the support of the Stu- dent Council, Mr. Bergam- ini, and Board members, this idea evolved into some- thing much greater. Every month on a Friday, students wear George White’s school colors, green and white. American Legion Winter Drive

Organized by the Student Counsel we had our yearly Winter Drive collection where thanks to the kind and thoughtful donations we were able to collect an amazing amount of back-packs, clothes, and personal items for both veteran men, and women. This year’s

was held from December 4, 2015 to December 16, 2015. We are sure that the home-less veterans from the bottom of your hearts appreciate your help!

Our 2015 Annual P.B.A. Toy Drive was as always a great success! The boxes for the collections were filling up every day, and every time we passed by, we were certain that one more child would have a happier holiday. At the end, we could not believe how much we had collected, it was simply AMAZING!!!!

We interviewed the new

-Why did you want to become As. Principal?

I became Asst. Principal to take new steps, and I love teaching.

-What was your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject is math.

Ms. Trahanas went to Rowan Journal and then to William Paterson University. She began as a teacher’s aide in 2013 and started teaching in 2014. When she was younger she wanted to be a journalist. She always loved to read, and one of her favorite series was The Babysitters Club, and the Harry Potter series. Her favorite subject to teach is math. When she was younger, she had trouble with math, and

the more she had to study math, the more she realized that mistakes are a part of learning. As a teacher, she al-

ways say, “Mistakes are good! Mistakes are learning! If you don’t make mistakes, you will never learn anything.”

By Madison Sgroi and Kelly Donlan.

Mr. Tabrys: How long have you been teaching?

-I have been teaching for 4 years. In all, I have been working in schools a total of 10 years.

What was your favorite subject in school?

-It was a tie between history and math.

What college did you go to?

-I went to Rutgers University.

How do you cele-brate your holi-days?

I celebrate it with my family.

by her own experience at IHA. Part

of her experience was how a big

sister or brother would follow them

around. Mrs. Reese decided it

would be a great idea to bring the

school together instead of 5th vs 6th

vs 7th vs 8th.

By: Mary Savelyev

Our wonderful guidance counselors Ms.

Pizzo and Mrs. Reese came up with the

idea of creating a program where 7th and

8th graders (the Bigs) mentor and help 6th

and 5th graders (the Littles) by fun activi-

ties and games. After interviewing Mrs.

Reese, she told us that she was inspired

In the beginning of the school year we had a Pep Rally to start off a great sports season. Some activi-ties were whiffle ball, knock out and volley-

ball. Our boy’s soccer team went undefeated for the main season and in the playoffs their good luck spree sadly ran out they lost 2-1.

The girl’s soccer team played hard but still lost a couple of games and

our girl’s volleyball team also had an amazing season. In the winter we also have a boy’s basketball team and a girl’s basketball team and their season starts on December. On the 25 of November we also had

teachers vs. students volleyball game. The students won the first match against the teachers but sadly

lost the last two. In my opinion it was a great game.

to vote on their favorite cake designs. All of the cakes had their own unique and creative style—and each student that participated deserved to receive votes for their hard work. Everyone in the class had a lot of fun making their cakes. Bet-ter yet, each student was able to take their creation home!

During this past marking period, Mrs. Sa-kalosky’s 8th grade cooking class held a cake decorating contest. Every student in the cycle baked a cake of their own with the help of a partner. Each cake was then deco-rated by a theme of the student’s choice. Some involved the fall season or Hallow-een, and others simply used frosting pat-terns and candy decorations. Both teachers and students throughout the school helped

Robotics

Pink out DAY

8th grade Cake Contest

NEWSLETTER TITLE

Robotics is a competitive club where students from all grades can join even if they don’t know how to build robots. One thing all the teams need to do is to show respect for the other students as well as for the teams that participate during the competition. The robots were that we build were based off a brick called Mindstorms EV3 the brick is compatible with a computer so you can make programs. This year the three George White robotics teams had a great season, the Lucky Charms made up of mostly Fifth graders, at the competition they placed 20th place out of 26 teams and the other teams came in 16th and 19th. The teams had their end of the season pizza party to celebrate the amazing season. As you can see the Robotics Club is a fun club to join, so next time think about becoming part of our school team!!!
