I believe a design can tell a story that contains unexpected, simple,

and emotional twists but with concrete details. Creativity inspires me

to experiment with new approaches to a problem. They lead to

innovation and problem solving. Behind every creative design, there

is a memorable story. Consistency of design elements in the message

that is communicated, all parts of the design are in harmony, and copy

is written with a consistent voice are essential in the design process

in order to visualize the whole story and consistently communicate the

same or similar simple message.

project 01/ DR. BECKER’S BITES

Create the brand that gear towards pharmaceutical aspect but also

retain its home-like quality. What I did for packaging was creating

something new that speaks of high-quality and health care dog food.

Since their original packaging made of plastic and vinyl which didn’t

have those appeal, I changed them to aluminum cans, paper bags,

and glass instead. Also, I created a vintage style to evoke a certain

friendliness and warmth for the brand’s personality.

To expand the line of “Dr. Becker’s Bites” with products that focus

on good health for all types of dogs with various diet systems. To

define the fine taste of these treats, give the brand a new look that

is fresh, friendly and approachable yet serious about animals health.

Dr. Becker’s Bites was born out of necessity! Karen Becker, DVM, NMD asked her mother to bake some special treats for her own personal pets. Knowing that grain-free, wholesome 100% meat treats were difficult to find, she suggested a few recipes for her mother to try. After six months of “playing” with different ingredients and baking methods in her kitchen, the first batch of treats as they are prepared today came out of the oven and were sent to Karen. Dr. Becker’s Bites was conceptually born. Karen’s dogs and cats (and crocodiles) went }“absolutely nuts” over the treat and Karen asked for another order of the “Bites” to place in her clinic. They sold out within hours and Dr. Becker’s Bites was officially born. Although Dr. Becker’s Bites is 100% owned and operated by her mother, Karen has lent her name to the products, satisfied with the quality that her title bears.

SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE

DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENINGFour videos about different aspects of stem cell science, stem cell ethics, cell culture and cloning.

EVENTS DESCRIPTION

This 15-minute film provides an engaging, accessible and visually stunning introduction to the world of stem cell research. It uses innovative hand-drawn animation, beautiful cell photography and documentary interviews to capture the fascination and complexity of this cutting-edge area of science.

_01 A stem cell story

Human embryonic stem celli lines are generated from blasto-cysts - early human embryos. But what are blastocysts, and when does personhood begin? What justifies research? Doctors, scientists, ethicists, theologians and a patient bring their different points of view, in this thought-provoking explora-tion of the ethical issues surrounding stem cell research. This 19-minute film aims to encourage open debate about the ethical issues around stem cell research. It is structured in chapters, each addressing a key ethical question.

_02 Conversations: ethics, science, stem cells

This six-minute film takes a closer look at how and why scientists grow stem cells in the lab. With the same visual style that makes A Stem Cell Story so appealing, this film's mix of timelapse photography, live action and hand-drawn animation transports viewers into the cell culture lab. Ideal for senior biology classes.

_03 Cell culture

“Stem cells: Visions of the Future”, a feature length documen-tary, is a landmark film. Featuring engaging hand-drawn animations, it charts the history and scientific evolution of stem cell research – from the earliest experiments that first revealed stem cells in the body, to leading current scientific and clinical developments and projections for future medicine. This film is the result of a genuinely creative collaboration between scientists and film-maker.

LECTURE 2Stem cell research stress the need for therapeutic cloningWoo-Suk Hwang, professor at Seoul National University in South Korea

A veterinarian by training, Hwang began to research cloning for a practical purpose: He wanted to create a better cow. But his work didn't stop in the barnyard. Hwang and his team at Seoul National University became the first to clone human embryos capable of yielding viable stem cells that might one day cure countless diseases. While such research raises troubling ethical questions, Hwang has already proved that human cloning is no longer science fiction, but a fact of life.

LECTURE 3Professor of Bioethics Glenn McGee will discuss "Playing God: Human Cloning and the New Bio-tech Revolution". McGee will discuss the ethics of the human cloning debate. This event is free and open to the public.

McGee, on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, is considered a leader in the new generation of bioethics research. The affect that new technology will have on our future is constantly in the public eye and McGee has been a frequent guest on the television shows Today, 60 Minutes, Oprah, Good Morning America, All Things Considered, The News Hour, World News Tonight and other national forums. McGee has been published in numerous newspapers, journals of business, science, medicine and news and has a popular weekly column on the MSNBC website. His books include:The Human Cloning Debate; The Perfect Baby: Parenthood in the New World of Cloning and Genetics; andPragmatic Bioethics.

Some people maintain that human manipulation is inevitable because what can be done will be done. But what can be done often is not done, so why should this technology be more likely than say a nuclear power plant in downtown New York? The answer lies in the nature of advanced reproductive technologies like germline engineering and cloning. Judging by today’s rapid progress.

WORKSHOP 2ADVANCED TRANSGENESIS AND CLONING: Genetic Manipulation in Animals

In discussions of cloning and germline modification of animals, it’s easy to pretend that human manipulations can be ignored. But it seems virtually certain that as these technologies evolve, their focus will swing back towards our own selves. The real question is not whether they will be applied to humans, but when, how, and to what extent.

DISSCUSION 1

What is the uses of human cloning

The possibility of human cloning, raised when Scottish scientists at Roslin Institute created the much-celebrated sheep "Dolly" (Nature 385, 810-13, 1997), aroused worldwide interest and concern because of its scientific and ethical implications. The feat, cited by Science magazine as the breakthrough of 1997, also generated uncertainty over the meaning of "cloning"--an umbrella term traditionally used by scientists to describe different processes for duplicating biological material.

_01 Caption

DISSCUSION 2Why is there so much controversy surrounding human cloning?

Recently, the controversy around human cloning has received a lot of news coverage; yet unsurprisingly, a clear and thorough examination of both sides has been lacking from the news media. Basically, human cloning is the artificial process of making a genetic twin of a person. This means a person could literally become the parent of their own twin sibling or the parent of anyone’s twin.

_01 Caption

Scientists are either very close at being able to clone human beings, or scientists have already done so. Human cloning has already become illegal or restricted in a variety of degrees in several countries, thus scientific research has been greatly reduced throughout the world. Furthermore, there has been quite a bit of legislation proposing to completely ban human cloning, and a large amount of legislation proposing to allow human cloning.

_02 Human Reproductive Cloning

When the media report on cloning in the news, they are usually talking about only one type called reproductive cloning. There are different types of cloning however, and cloning technologies can be used for other purposes besides producing the genetic twin of another organism. A basic understanding of the different types of cloning is key to taking an informed stance on current public policy issues and making the best possible personal decisions. The following three types of cloning technologies will be discussed: (1) recombinant DNA technology or DNA cloning, (2) reproductive cloning, and (3) therapeutic cloning.

_02 What is cloning? Are there different types of cloning?

Dear Sebastian Akchoté

290 Pine St. SF, CA [email protected]

Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company™ has grown from a small family-owned hat distributorshipto one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of skiwear in the United States. In 2008, the company reported net sales of approximately $1.32 billion. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia is renowned for developing innovative products that are comfortable, protective, functional, stylish and offer great value.

At the head of the company are 85-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, chairman of the board of directors, and her son, Tim Boyle, president and chief executive officer. Columbia's history began in the 1930s when Gert's parents fled Germany and settled in Portland, Oregon. They bought a small hat distributorship and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the family started manufacturing products themselves, and expanded the line to include jackets, fishing vests and shirts.

In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. In 1970, Neal died of a heart attack. He left behind three children, an expanding company leaning heavily on bank loans, and a wife without business experience.

The day after Neal's funeral, the phones at Columbia were ringing off the hook with salesmen and vendors who assumed that the company was going out of business. Then the bank called. Concerned with the thought that a housewife was going to run the company, the bank summoned a meeting with Gert. In this meeting she managed to buy herself a little time. Appeasing the bankers, she pledged Columbia's building as collateral for loans. She also trimmed the company a bit and Tim started hitting the trade shows. After a few years, profits went up. Gert's no nonsense approach was paying off.

Eventually, Gert took on the persona of the tough mother in Columbia advertising. Mother Boyle is often shown as the tyrant who makes sure that each of Columbia's products can stand up to her tough standards and the worst weather. The global marketing campaigns and Gert's "Tough Mother" persona turned her into an international celebrity. The mom-is-looking-out-for-you message is universally understood around the world.

Your Sincerely,

Daniel Christabel Lamotte,

that come along with the product that would appeal to the target audiences.

To expand the line of “DSQUARED2” by creating products and

services which geared towards younger audiences from early-20s

Using infographics and high contrast images of animals in a variety

of obscure environment to convey animal migration and sensing ability.

Using blue symbolizes consciousness, and black to create a sense

of mystery associated with fear and the unknown of the animals’

environment. Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth, combined

with a tint of red as a sign of alertness. These color combinations set

the overall mood of animal instinct.

Animals have special abilities in sensing danger or natural disaster,

such as earthquake and tsunami. Knowing how they protect themselves

from danger and use their navigational and homing ability to migrate as

part of their life circle leads us to a better understanding of our planet.

How do animals know when to migrate? That depends on the type of migration. For many types of migration it is the change of seasons that spurs animals on. As summer becomes fall, days become shorter and that can trigger animals to prepare for migration. Closer to the equator, the days don’t change in length and one theory is that animals become restless after too many days with a constant length. Other migrations are initiated by seasonal conditions. Food availability can be a motivator for some longitudinal and altitudinal migrators. For example, as plant foods in upper elevations become hidden under snow, animals move down toward the valleys, and then in the spring as the plants come out again, animals move back into the upper areas following the plants as they appear.

Infrasound20 Hz is considered the normal low frequency limit of human hearing. When pure sine waves are reproduced under ideal conditions and at very high volume, a human listener will be able to identify tones as low as 12 Hz. Below 10 Hz it is possible to perceive the single cycles of the sound, along with a sensation of pressure at the eardrums.

HOME ANIMAL MIGRATION ANIMAL ABILITIES SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP

Ecological relationships between different species that are in direct contact with one another. There are three kinds of these rela-tionships: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. MUTUALISM is a relationship between two different species in which both species benefit. An example is the relation-ship between nitrogen fixing bacteria and legume plants. COMMENSALISM is a relation-ship between two different species in which one species benefits while the other is neither helped nor harmed. An example is cowbirds following cattle, to eat the insects the cattle stir up as they graze. PARASITISM is a rela-tionship between two species in which one species benefits while the other species is harmed. An example is a tick on a dog. For a parasitic species to be successful, it cannot harm the host species so much as to kill the species off. DISRUPTION OF SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIPS_ like the disruption of food webs, removing one species from a biome can harm other species if they had a symbi-otic relationship with at species. For example, a population of ticks cannot survive without any host animals on which to feed.
