CMI Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship
An operations/departmental manager is generally someone who is able to manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering and achieving departmental goals and
objectives. They are accountable to a more senior manager, head of department or small business owner, and are responsible for the operational and/or policy delivery of the organisation’s strategy. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisations, specific
responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same
whatever the role.
This apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career in leadership and management and who wish to take their first steps into professional management. It is also appropriate for those already in management roles who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills. It will typically take up to 2 years to complete, although the exact duration will be dependent on the individual.
Target Audience
It is aimed at established and emerging managers including operations managers, heads of
department, store manager, regional manager, middle manager and specialist managers. Key
responsibilities are likely to include inputting to strategic planning, creating and delivering
operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, supporting people through coaching and
mentoring.

Completion of CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership
Demonstrate the skills, knowledge & behaviours in the occupational management standards
Completion of English & Maths Level 2 Functional Skills if required
Completion of the end point assessment by an independent assessor including knowledge test, competency based interview, portfolio of evidence, assessment of a work based project followed by a presentation and professional discussion relating to CPD activity
