Page 3: St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church · 2017-07-29 · St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church 8 Pentecost, Proper 12, Year A July 30, 2017 9 S. 1st ST, P.O. Box 735, Dubois, WY 82513 Ante-Communion

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven:

by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People Form III

The Leader and People pray responsively

Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one.

Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people.

We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth.

Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight.

Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress.

Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. 3 10

We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy;

May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray

for the Diocese of Pittsburgh and for the Diocese of Pennsylvania. In the Diocesan Cycle of

Prayer, we pray for Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Kinnear. In our daily prayers we pray for

those in the Armed Services. We also pray for [prayers in notebook]. Please add your own

petitions at this time, either silently or aloud.

We give thanks for [Thanksgivings in notebook]. Please add your own thanksgivings at this

time, either silently or aloud.

The Officiant says

O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies,

look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover

of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and for ever.

People Amen.

Confession of Sin and Absolution

Officiant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

The people kneel as they are able.

Silence as we call to mind our sins.

All say together

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and

deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you

with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry

and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and

forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your

Name. Amen.

The Officiant says Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,

strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life.

People Amen.

All stand.

Officiant The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People And also with you. 9

Then the Ministers and People greet one another in the name of the Lord. The Peace is an ancient Christian practice that concludes the Liturgy of the

Word. A liturgical exchange of greeting through word and gesture, the Peace is a sign of reconciliation, love, and renewed relationships in the Christian

community.

Joining hands, the Officiant and People say Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as

we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sufferage A (said responsively by verse)

Officiant Show us your mercy, O Lord; People And grant us your salvation.

Officiant Clothe your ministers with righteousness; People Let your people sing with joy.

Officiant Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; People For only in you can we live in safety.

Officiant Lord, keep this nation under your care; People And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

Officiant Let your way be known upon earth; People Your saving health among all nations.

Officiant Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten; People Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

A Collect for Sundays The Officiant says

O God, you make us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son

our Lord: Give us this day such blessing through our worship of you, that the week to come may

be spent in your favor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Collect for the Renewal of Life

The Officiant says

O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of

death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your

law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness while

it was day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our

Lord. Amen.

A Collect for Mission

The Officiant says

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to

preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere

may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all

flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Songbook 16 Change my heart, O God

General Thanksgiving

Officiant and People say together

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,

we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks

for all your goodness and loving-kindness

to us and to all whom you have made.

We bless you for our creation, preservation,

and all the blessings of this life;

but above all for your immeasurable love

in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;

for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,

that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,

not only with our lips, but in our lives,

by giving up our selves to your service,

and by walking before you

in holiness and righteousness all our days;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,

be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

The Officiant says

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine:

Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and

ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20,21
