GOSPEL SUMMARY

On Friday afternoon when Jesus died, the women had not been able to finish the customary preparation for burial. The Sab-bath began at sundown on Friday, so Mary of Magdala hur-ried to the tomb Sunday morning to complete her task. She found the tomb empty. Certain that Jesus’ body had been stolen, she ran back to get the other disciples. Peter and the other disciple also found an empty tomb, but with Jesus’ clothing rolled neatly and placed where His body had been. The disci-ples still didn’t understand about the Resurrection and Mary wept. As she cried, two angels appeared asking why she was crying. She then saw a gardener and asked Him where the body might be. When He called her by name, Mary immediately recog-nized Jesus.

REFLECTION FOR FAMILIES

Most parents have discovered by now that things aren’t always as they seem. A poured out bottle of laundry detergent wasn’t really mischievous behavior, but rather an attempt to surprise you with a generous gift of service. Or secret whispers are not an attempt to hide some wrongdoing, but rather an effort to plan a surprise for you. Things weren’t as they seemed to Mary Magdalene either that first Easter morning. Our errors in percep-tion often work to remind us that God’s plan is not always obvious, but that we are chal-lenged to trust in the promise of the Resurrection.

EASTER

RICE BOWL Encounter The Risen Christ—We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we celebrate Easter joy! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends as we encounter our risen Lord. We reflect on our brothers and sisters whom we have walked with in India, Zam-bia, El Salvador, Mexico, Ethiopia and Hawaii. And we commit to bring Easter joy to each person we meet in our daily lives. Don’t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl in the Narthex as soon as possible. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Child Abuse Protection Month: Did you know: All

dioceses and eparchies have Victim Assistance Coordina-tors, assuring that victims of abuse will be heard. In 2016, diocess and eparchies provided out-reach and support to 250 victims/survivors and their families who came forward to report abuse. Continued support was also provided to 1,510 victims/survivors and their families who reported abuse in prior years. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

100Th Anniversary of the Miracle of Fatima—The First Three Apparitions—In rural Portugal, near the outcroppings

of Loca do Cabeco and the Cova da Iria, apparitions occurred which would change the history of the 20th Century and the lives of three shepherd children, Lucia Santos, Francisco Mar-ta and his sister, Jacinta. In 1916, Lucia, Francisco and Jacin-ta experienced three apparitions with the first heavenly mes-senger, the Angel of Portugal, and his message of prayer and peace. In the third encounter, according to Lucia, the “Angel was holding in his left hand a chalice and over it, in the air, was a host from which a drop of blood fell into the chalice”. It was in this way that catechized in prayer, reparative suffering, and doctrine of the Holy Eucharist, and strengthened by the Bread of Angels, that the children of Fatima were prepared for the visitation of the Immaculate Virgin Mary.
