It is so easy to blame the circumstance or someone else for my lack of peace. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, risen from the dead said to His apostles again: “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.” (John 20: 21) While I was praying for my cousin and family at St. Luke’s Hospital chapel, I saw these words below the mosaic of Jesus and the Ca- naanite woman: “Great is your faith, be it as you desire.” (Matthew 15: 28) These words were so direct and meaningful to me. Yes, if we have peace in our hearts, then our desires are granted by God beyond our wildest dreams! Peace and Desire go hand in hand. I heard it said that the Devil, the world, and the flesh can tempt us, but only God can beget any desire or work in us. (Philippians 2:13) Wow, Alleluia, Praise the Lord! To me this gift of peacefulness comes to heart when I think of Stephen Sulli- van, our associate director, who died on March 8th from pancreatic and liver cancer, compounded by his rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. We thank God that Steve is now Home with Jesus, Mary and all who loved him. When I would ask him how he was, he simply said God’s will be done. When he talked about his childhood, his family and some of the amazing things that happened here at ole SOH, you would see his beautiful smile. His family and some of our SOH community were with him when he died. He is now truly at rest and probably planning a dinner for Jesus and the saints in Heaven! Please continue to remember this remarkable brother, friend and servant of God to all of us. Your prayers, cards, phone calls, visits, meant the world to Steve, his family and ours! I know this man of God, who said he was sorry for anything he did that might have hurt us, has won God’s heart and ours as well. Please see his memorial page in this newsletter. Fifth Sunday of Lent

Welcome to the 50 days of the Easter Season! Our theme at SOH for this year is: “Peace in every heart!” We know that if one’s heart is at peace, only then are we able to help another be at peace. We can’t give what we

don’t have. It is so easy to blame the circumstance or someone else for my lack of peace. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, risen from the dead said to His apostles again: “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.” (John 20: 21) While I was praying for my cousin and family at St. Luke’s Hospital chapel, I saw these words below the mosaic of Jesus and the Ca-naanite woman: “Great is your faith, be it as you desire.” (Matthew 15: 28) These words were so direct and meaningful to me. To me this gift of peacefulness comes to heart when I think of Stephen Sulli-van, our associate director, who died on March 8th from pancreatic and liver cancer, compounded by his rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. We thank God that Steve is now Home with Jesus, Mary and all who loved him. When I would ask him how he was, he simply said God’s will be done. Dear Friends of Sanctuary of Hope,

Page 2: Words of Hope...Remember we have 50 days of Easter Glory and with all of us at Sanctuary of Hope, even good ole Stephen, we wish you an Easter of Peace, Desire and Victory in the Hearts

I sure want to invite anyone who might like to join us at SOH for our second Open Forum meeting on March 22nd, Friday, from 5:30-8 PM, with a potluck dinner to begin the evening. We hope to build upon our first meeting and try to find out what areas people are interested in helping out with from the priorities we heard: a. Wanting different committees, volunteers, Board of Trustees to work more together. b. Needing to get out into the community to foster stronger relationships and spread the word about the mission of SOH. c. Mobilizing volunteers to assist in carrying out the various jobs and tasks at SOH. d. Doing more work in the area of Buildings and the Grounds, like in-kind donations. e. Focusing on the aspect of Spirituality as we carry out the mission of SOH, new programs and/or new ideas to at-tract more people to our prayer and retreat center.

If you are unable to attend the Open Forum meeting, please send us your thoughts, comments, ideas, or areas you might be interested in helping with the above priorities. Again my deepest appreciation to all who have responded toward helping finance my salary. To date, we have taken in $30,000. This will be enough to cover my salary and also cover a good portion of my benefits, Wow and Praise the Lord! The 14th annual Run the Good 5K Race/Walk is just around the corner, June 15th. Maybe this year we can have 350 participants and 25 more sponsors. I do invite you to consider having a team of 10 or more people to participate, from your work, your family or some organization close to your heart. Just come and begin the Father’s Day weekend with treating dad to an uphill adventure with a smooth landing on the road course! Remember we have 50 days of Easter Glory and with all of us at Sanctuary of Hope, even good ole Stephen, we wish you an Easter of Peace, Desire and Victory in the Hearts of Jesus, Mary and in all our hearts too! Love, prayers and gratitude, Dios te bendiga siempre, Feliz Pascua, Fr. Dennis Wait, Spiritual Director

Holy Grounds Book and Gifts If you are looking for some meaningful reading material for reflection and meditation, please check the wonderful selection of used books in our gift store. We are continually adding books and our inventory is ever changing. We have something for everyone and our prices cannot be beat. Remember that the proceeds go to benefit SOH. The artists who display in our gift shop have many new items and beautiful pieces for your gift giving. If you will be gifting a new Catholic at Easter please visit us for a unique gift and one that will mark a very special occasion. Two of our artists, Ann Hatch and Jane Walton, will be sharing their creative experience in a workshop on April 13, 2013. This is a chance for all who are interested to see how “Meditation through Creative and Spiritual Expression” can enrich your life. See additional details in this newsletter. Again, thanks to all who have supported us this year. If you are aware of an event where our gift shop might be welcome to display please let us know. We have had very positive receptions in taking the gift shop to some of the parishes in the diocese. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Spring is springing and birds are singing and gardeners like me are gettin' real anxious to turn some dirt, scratch the soil, and participate in the ever-amazing miracle of life popping up. Sure, the witch hazel is finishing blooming and the forsythia and daffodils and crocus are aching to give their show. Bradford pears, dogwoods, and even the roses are putting on swelling buds. Every thing seems to be poised to shout the glory of God. “In all truth I tell you, unless a wheat grain falls into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain, but if it dies it yields a rich harvest." (John 12:24) I remember shoveling the oats from the wooden wagon into the large broad-cast spreader mounted on the back and in between scoops look-ing at the broad back of the farmer driving the tractor. Why did his weathered face have a broad grin when he turned in his seat to look back at the black field through a mist of seed spraying out as we rolled along? Why do we get on our knees to spill out spinach, sweet pea, and cabbage seed into the near straight furrows or use the kitchen, mudroom, or any other south-facing window to try and sprout seed inside? Sometimes the package has a date from two or even three years ago, and though experts tell us the viability is diminished and we should invest in new seed,..maybe He will still show us NEW LIFE!

On February 3rd, the 17th annual Music, Movement & Meditation Concert got underway as Classical Indian dancers, Bhavana and Navaya opened the program with an invocatory piece that focused on the pure dance aspect of Bharatanatyam. Their stamping feet accentuated with ankle bells, pounded out intricate, complex, rhythms in counterpoint syncopation with the vocalizations of the singer and percus-sionist. Their large, dark, expressive eyes, subtle shifting of the neck and shoulders, and precise mudras, (hand positions) amazed us! The human voice, the perfect instrument, not made of wood, or brass, but of flesh and blood. The twenty-five fine tuned, polished, perfect voices of The Motet

Singers enraptured us as their entire repertoire was sung a cappella. Their voices filled the chapel and caused us to levitate and meditate into another realm as they sang the profoundly beautiful and poignant “God be in my Head” and “Now I walk in Beauty.” Director, Dr. David Rasmussen amused us with his humorous anecdotes and provided us with a fascinating historical context from which each piece originated. His depth of knowledge and passion for music was quite infectious! We eagerly leaned forward anxious to hear the harmonics of their vocal vibrations that resonated throughout the chapel and brought us to a place of tranquility. For those who chose to come out and spend the afternoon with us we deeply appreciate your presence!

THANK YOU NOTE FROM SISTER ANTONELLA

Thank you for the gift at Christmastime, 2011. Yes, 2011. There was a Secret Santa who was very good to the four of us Sisters of St. Joseph. God knows who you are, and we want to say “Thank you.” May God reward your generosity. We are praying for you. Now that 2012 is past and 2013 is here with all its activities, we will continue remembering the Sanctuary of Hope community. May you know happiness and peace.

There will not be a Mother’s Day brunch this year--but we are hopeful that it can continue in 2014. Thank you to all who have attended this event in the past.
