Grandparents Day and Special Friends Day One of the great days on the school calendar is Grandparents / Special Friends‟ Day. On Friday 26th July 2019, I invite all grandparents / special friends to come to the school and spend time with their grandchildren. I know how proud and excited the children are to see someone “extra spe-cial‟ share some in some of their precious “school time‟ with them. The events of the morning will include the following: 9.15am – 10.15am: Grandparents arrive and are invited into the classroom where they can join in a classroom activity. 10.15am – 10.45: Recess: Students have recess and Grandparents are invited for a cup of tea/coffee and biscuit in the hall 11.00: Grandparents Day / Special Friends Mass – all families (parents, grandparents / special friends) are invited to the church to celebrate together. All students are asked to sit with their Grandparents/Special Friends as part of this celebration At the conclusion of Mass the annual Grandparents Day photo will be taken. Friday 26th July save the date and tell Grandparents and Special friends they are all welcome.

‘Just One Thing’ Campaign

At the end of last term, all families should have received a letter from the Parents and Friends Committee about the 'Just One Thing' campaign. We encourage each family to take the time to consider how they can support the needs of the school - and as you can see from the 'list of things', there are many jobs and tasks that require volunteer help. These are worthwhile activities, events and undertakings that can only continue with new parent helpers. If you require more information please contact the office

Mass 11:00 am August 11th 60th Anniversary Celebration We are having a Special Mass of Thanksgiving to celebrate our school’s 60th anniversary. We are truly blessed to have Archbishop Peter Comensoli celebrating the mass on this special occasion. Mass will be followed by light refreshments and the school will be open too. I strongly encourage all families to attend this milestone occasion for our School. An invite will be sent home soon.

Memorabilia to Share We are asking our school community to lend us any memorabilia they may have of our school. Ask family and friends in the community. We will take good care of your items and it will be a great opportunity to share in our rich history. We are asking for any photos (we are happy to scan them), reports (names withheld), trophies, medals, certificates etc. Thank you for your assistance. We look forward to a great day.

Sick Children

As part of the legal requirement of recording children absent from school, a phone call to the office or a Skoolbag message would be greatly appreciated if your child is away for the day. The number of the school again is 9808 7279. Thank you to all families who have been phoning to give us this important information.

Kind regards,

Jennifer Rohan

Principal

Today a team of our girls, Bianca, Lily, Ava, Tahlia, Tahlia, Therese, Nancy and Sally

competed in the Monash Waverley Division Netball Finals. We are so incredibly proud of their efforts. The team played and won their first two games in their pool and then

went on to win their Semi Final as well. Unfortunately they missed out on a win in the Grand Final however they put in an

amazing effort against a much larger school. Congratulations Girls!!!

Tips to help your child ease back into school This is an extract from an article by Susan Martin. Click here to read the full article

Going back to school can be stressful, but there are ways to help ease the transition. A de-gree of anxiety is not unusual. It can also be a stressful time for parents as well as we re-adjust to juggling work, education, and childcare schedules. Most specialists working with chil-dren agree that a certain amount of angst about going back to school can be normal and usu-ally isn’t harmful. By helping kids cope with any stress they might be dealing with, parents can help prevent their child’s anxiety from escalating with these tips.

Present school worries as normal, not exceptional Showering your child with affection can validate his or her anxiety and may actually be counterproductive, says child psychologist and author Michael Carr-Gregg. Instead, he ad-vises, “Simply listen to your child’s concerns. What is she or he worried about? And why does she or he expect that to happen? Once you know what’s bothering your child, you can start to develop a coping plan.”

Remember the basics While identifying the immediate cause of your child’s anxiety is important, it’s also worth thinking about their overall health – especially after a period of less structured holiday time. “Ensure your child is eating regular meals and healthy snacks and has daily exercise,” advises Carr-Gregg. Getting enough sleep is also important: he recommends 10 hours a night during term time for primary-school students and nine hours a night for high-school students. Having a routine set up can help to keep these things under control, like planning lunch the night before, sug-gests Kids Helpline.

Try to remain calm Take time out for yourself. It can be an emotional time for parents, from the first teary drop off at the primary school gates, to watching your child walk into their last first day in high school. Parents can be an example of positive behaviour for kids to follow. “Our best advice for parents at this time is to be excited. If you’re enthusi-astic and confident, your children will be too” says Brendan.
