Trivia night What a fantastic and fun night had by all at our Trivia night last Saturday. I

would like to say thank you to the organising committee Alicia Cleary, Ka-

ren McLean and Annie Lawrence firstly for all their hard work and support

of this event. They were simply amazing!!

A big thank you to our past St. Scholastica’s Primary student Mick Sex-ton who ran the Trivia Night and donated his time.

Also thank you to all the parents who helped with many silent auction items, set up of the Hall and clean up too. We had special Brownlow guests as well

Book week Celebrations Last Friday we celebrated Book Week in fine fashion. The varied cos-tumes worn by the children were wonderful to see and the day was filled with fun and enjoyment. Special thanks to Marissa Kilbride and all staff for organising the day. Days like Friday take a great deal of time to organise and so a job well done.

Father’s Day Breakfast and stall tomorrow We are looking forward to our Father’s day breakfast. Also an im-portant part of this day is the Fathers’ Day Stall. The students love to purchase gifts on this day so please send your child along with some money and a bag for their purchases. Helpers are needed tomorrow from 9am to 11am (see flyer attached).

P & F Father’s day raffle prizes

Take a moment to stop by the school front desk and see what you could win in the Father's Day raffle, drawn on Friday Sept 1. There are more than 12 prizes on offer. There are a number of hampers stuffed with gourmet food and sweet treats: a pizza stone BBQ set, a mouth-watering cake, vouchers from Tinto Wine Bar Hawthorn, Dan Murphy's and more. And have you seen the Lindt chocolate towers? Now that's eye-popping.

All this is only possible with the help of our donors. We'd like to thank Coles and Woolworths (The Glen), Barbe-ques Galore (Nunawading), Dan Murphy's (Vermont South), Officeworks (Vermont South), Autobarn (Nunawading), Supercheap Auto (Syndal), Sofia's (Burwood), Taco Bill, Moritata Dessert (Box Hill) and Hanes Brands.

Ivan’s Pies

You will have received the information and order form for the Ivan's Pies fundraiser. If you haven't, please see Marie or grab a form from outside Miss Rohan's office. You have until Friday Sept 8 to deliberate and decide. Remember, footy finals and the school holidays are almost here so there will be times with family and friends. If you've not ordered from Ivan's Pies before, can I say that our family favourites include the Aussie beef, the An-gus chunky and of course, the ever popular apple pie! Your order will be delivered to school on Thursday Sept 21 - you can pick it up at the end of the school day.

First Eucharist Please keep in your prayers our first Eucharist candidates as they prepare for the Sacrament on Sunday 10

tember at 11:00am : Grace Correa, Julia Jez, Therese Leong, Teddy Smith, Linda Ling, Ava Maguire, Alex Taranto, Rebecca Maguire-Nguyen, Ava Marston, Ethan Teo, Ella McEvoy, Nathan Mclaren, Isabella Miller, Isla Mitchell, Jocelyn Narsity, Erica O’Connell, Jack Rush. Cadbury Chocolates Drive This fundraiser is now coming to a close with 20 boxes still to be returned. Please return unsold chocolates and monies to school by the end of the week. We are hoping that the boxes can be returned to save the time of send-ing out letters. Thank you to all families who have supported this fundraiser.

Parent ‘Insight SRC’ School Improvement Surveys Each year 70 families are requested to complete a questionnaire providing direction for the School Annual Action Plan of the following year. If you received a survey envelope we ask that you complete the survey at your earliest convenience. Where possible we ask that families complete the online survey as directed in your information pack NO LATER THAN Friday 8th September. If completing a hard copy of the survey we request that you com-plete the survey and return it to your child’s class teacher/school office in a sealed envelope (envelope enclosed) as soon as possible. We request that parents receiving the survey assist us in achieving a 100% survey comple-tion success rate. The entire staff and students in Years 3 - 6 will be completing the surveys over the two week period. School Fees All outstanding balances of school fees must be finalised by Friday 15th September. Please ring me on Monday 4th September if you wish to discuss payment. Thank you to all the families who have finalised their fee accounts for 2017. Melbourne Museum Excursion—Tuesday 5th September, 2017 We are all looking forward to the whole school excursion to the Museum. Each year level will be exploring a varie-ty of exhibitions including Bugs alive, Dinosaur Walk, Wild and the Forest Gallery. Mark the date in your calen-dars. The St. Schol's whole school excursion is a great community event. If you would like to join us on the day, please let your child's teacher know.

Woolworths Earn and Learn continues !!

Earn and Learn from Woolworths is running from 26th July to 19th September 2017. The last time we were a part of the program, the school was very fortunate that from your generosity, we were able to purchase a large amount of sports equipment and teaching and learning resources.

Please share this information with your family members as the more stickers that we accumulate, the greater op-portunity we have to purchase a variety of goods. Sticker sheets have been sent home so please help us by col-lecting as many as you can. When the sticker sheet is full, post in the collection box at the school office and col-lect a new sheet. Extra sheets are also available on skoolbag app

Yours sincerely

Jennifer Rohan,

Principal

P & F Trivia night round up

Wow! A great, fun night was had by all at the St Schol’s Trivia Night. There was a fantastic vibe in the hall with over 100 people in attendance.

Congratulations to our winning table - Jen & Ron Vanderhorst, Sydelle & Andrew Muling, Penny & Chris Maguire, Ellen & Pete Dunne, Allison & Mick Jenkins and Belinda Gant, raffle winners and all those who took home some prizes and auction items.

A night like this was able to occur due to our fantastic school community. So THANK YOU to everyone who made this happen: those who donated raffle items, sourced auction items, picked up donations, advertised, helped set up, helped on the night, helped tidy up after and those who were able to attend and try their hand at answering some trivia! Also, a big thank you must go to Mick Sexton our quiz master and ex St Schol’s student who did a fabulous job on the night.

We raised over $5,000 to go towards the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program for our children. Robotics and coding here we come!!!

The following items were part of the silent auction at the Trivia Night. If you would like to purchase any, please

STUDENT WELLBEING

Father to Father

With Father’s Day on Sunday it’s time to pay tribute to our Dads and explores ways Dads can build closer re-

lationships with their kids. The attached article, Father to Father, is from renowned behavioural expert, Mi-

chael Grose. It highlights ideas about how to start building a positive relationship with your children when

they are young:

Play your strengths

Practical advice: Be yourself, but be smart about it!

Lighten up – don’t take yourself too seriously

Practical advice: Be present in mind as well as in body when you’re with your kids

Have something in common with each child.

Practical advice: Be prepared to take an interest in your child’s interests

Take it easy on your son.

Practical advice: see the boy as he is now, not the future man, when you

spend time with him.

Enjoy the outdoors with your daughter.

Practical advice: Enjoy spending time with your daughters on a daily basis.

Be ready for the kids to knock you off your pedestal

Practical advice: Don’t take yourself too seriously.

Give your kids a compass and a map.

Practical advice: Tell kids your story – don’t make them guess it or learn it from someone

else.

Father’s day is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the contribution that men make to the lives of their chil-

dren. It is also a great opportunity for you to reflect on the contribution that fathers – whether your own dad

or someone else’s – have made to your own life.

Kind regards

Minties Wrap We had a loss on Monday, 2 goals to 5 against the Blacky South Octopi. Jack scored both goals and received the Grilled award for his efforts. Better luck next week Minties!

EBees vs Wattle Park Saints We are coming to the end of the Winter season but this hasn’t stopped the boys from putting in a great effort. A tough game against the Saints but they beat us 34/14. Our opponents just didn’t miss a shot when they got the ball to their end of the court. Check out these Basketball sneakers. They are called Nike Air Kobe 1 and come with Kobe Bryant's signature on it. They cost a whopping $30,000 – better start saving now if you want to buy.
