A F S L - 47 A M F L W DC It’s not to late! The Diocese of Owensboro is in the planning stages of offering an adult and family oriented trip to the 47th Annual March For life in Washington DC on January 24, 2020 to be the voices for the voiceless unborn and advocate for the sanctity of human life. We depart from Owensboro on January 22nd at 8:00pm, spend two days in Washington DC at the hotel where the convention is to be held. While there we plan to go to the vigil Mass for Life at the National Basilica the night before the March, attend the March January 24th, and depart for home on January 25th. There are still some seats/rooms available for the March for Life. Cost is $325 . Call Darryl Rezac 270.436.2022 for details.

P Y H —N S At Ponder in Your Heart weekly meetings, we will begin with our common yearning for happiness. “Rediscover Catholicism” by Matthew Kelly takes us on an adventure of life-changing proportions by addressing some of the most important

questions we face today, both as individuals and as a Church. We will discuss topics like—Are you happy? Are you living an authentic life? Do you think you'll find happiness where you're looking? How would you like your life to change? What is God’s dream for your life? Why have so many people rejected Catholicism? What does it mean to walk with God in the modern world? Do the saints have anything to offer you? Is Jesus still relevant? The group will meet on Thursdays from 6:00—7:30pm in the St. Isadore Room. Books will be provided for a recommended donation of $3.00. Please contact Kristy Linnhoff at 270.727.3432, [email protected]

L O T W Epiphany can be understood as an extension of the Nativity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25. While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts magi who come from far distant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians reveals that the Light of the world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gathering of diverse peoples, but this time it is to the light that emanates from the people of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SAINT ELIZABETH ANN SETON (1774-1821) - January 4

Though her liturgical designation is “Religious,” Elizabeth Seton, her feast-day prayer reminds us, was also wife, mother, educator, foundress. Born into a wealthy Episcopalian family, Elizabeth married William Seton, whose untimely death in Italy where the young family sought healing for William’s tuberculosis, left her, at twenty-nine, a widow with five children. Inspired by the faith and charity of the Italian family with whom they stayed, Elizabeth embraced Catholicism despite her family’s disowning her and ceasing financial support. This woman of many firsts (and several vocations!) opened the first free Catholic school, beginning the American Catholic educational system, and founded the first American religious community for women, the Sisters of Charity. The tuberculosis that claimed her husband took also her oldest and youngest daughters and, finally, at just forty-seven, Elizabeth herself. Another first: in 1975 she was canonized the first native-born American saint. Once asked to summarize her spirituality, she replied: “Faith lifts the staggering soul on one side, hope supports it on the other, experience says it must be, and love says let it be!” —Peter Scagnelli,

Save the Date—Works of Mercy Book Study

Happy Blessed New Year! God loves

us so much that He gave His only

Begotten Son to redeem us.

In the letter of St. Paul to the

Ephesians 5:1-2 we read, “So be

imitators of God as beloved

children, and live in love as Christ

loved us and handed Himself over

for us as a sacrificial offering”. How

do we imitate God and live in love?

By loving our neighbor and doing

works of mercy.

Using the book, “You Did It to Me”

written by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, we will learn the three

different kinds of works of mercy: 1. The Three Degrees of

Mercy, 2. The Traditional Approach and 3. The Scriptural

Approach. By completing reading assignments and doing the

checklists in the book individually during the week, and

attending group meetings for sharing insights and plans of

action on Saturdays, the author gives an opportunity to all to

experience the joy of fellowship with one another, joy of sharing

and receiving the reward awaiting them at the end of time for

doing works of mercy. In Matthew 25:31-46, we read, ”Christ the

King Himself will say ,’Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of

the least of my brethren, you did it to Me’.”

Orientation meeting January 11th.Group meetings January

18th and 25th from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in the St. Isidore Faith

Formation Room. Conclusion February 1st in the chapel at

11:00 am with reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Book cost

is $5.00. For more information please contact Cecilia at 956-

566-1999 or email [email protected] or Megan

Bell.
