CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ,

Christmas is a time for giving because “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son” whose birthday we celebrate on Christmas Day. The birth of Jesus was the ultimate gift to all humankind because it is God’s gift of Himself in redeeming love. It offers the hope of salvation and the possibility of peace that the world cannot give. Similarly our gift-giving and greetings should reflect our love for God and for our neighbor. The gift God wants from us is our love, devotion and dedication to continue proclaiming the Good News by word and deed. The gift to our neighbor should reflect our loving concern for them not only at Christmas but throughout the coming year.

Christmas is a time for forgiving, forgiving others is essential if we are to be forgiven and be able to welcome the Prince of Peace and experience His peace in our hearts. Jesus’ message of forgiveness and reconciliation is central to the Gospel. Without it, we cannot experience that peace which He along can give to those who repent and turn to Him in faith.

Christmas is a time for giving. It is also a time to thank all those who have been giving of their time, talents and treasure not only at Christmas but throughout the whole year. Without their support and generosity, we would not be here today. Their love for our parish and our community is a symbol of God’s love and provident care. They, in their various ways, are continuing the work begun at that first Christmas.

Finally, keep the sacraments at the heart of your preparations. Come to Confession, participate in our Liturgy, receive our God in the Eucharist. Make your Christmas all that it should be… All that it can be in the year of the Eucharist.

May the Peace of the Christ Child dwell in your hearts now and always.

Peace of Christ,Fr. Bassam M. Saade, D.Min., Pastor

scene in 1223. The only historical account we have of Francis’ nativity scene comes from The Life of St. Francis of Asisi by St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan monk who was born five years before Francis’ death. According to Bonaventure’s biography, St. Francis got permission from Pope Honorious III to set up a manger with hay and two live animals—an ox and an ass—in a cave in the Italian village of Grecio. He then invited the villagers to come gaze upon the scene while he preached about “the babe of Bethlehem.” (Francis was supposedly so overcome by emotion that he couldn’t say “Jesus.”) Bonaventure also claims that the hay used by Francis miraculously acquired the power to cure local cattle diseases and pestilences.

Romans 1:1 -12 Salutation / Prayer of ThanksgivingPaul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of his name, including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, To

all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world. For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers, asking that by God’s will I may somehow at last succeed in coming to you. For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you — or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. Praise be to God always!Matthew 1:1-17 The Genealogy of Jesus the MessiahThe Apostle said: An account of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Aram, and Aram the father of Aminadab, and Aminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Salathiel, and Salathiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations. This is the truth. Peace be with you.Christmas Readings: Hebrews 1:1-12 & Luke 2:1-20

THE GLORIOUS BIRTH OF OUR LORD

Luke 2:1-20 The Evangelist writes: In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration nd was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to beregistered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son nd wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. In that regionthere were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for see— I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” When the angels had left them nd gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them bout this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. This is the truth. Peace be with you.
