Ks. Mike Meany

Dear parishioners, Thank you for all your gifts of time, talent and treasure at Christmas! You were most gener-ous! I appreciate your thoughtfulness and many kindnesses to those in need. Please know that your ministry is what makes St. John Brebeuf so special. Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 28. I hope your take the time to visit our school during the open house in two weeks and listen to the many new academic initiatives, technology updates with one to one devices, weekly mass, athletic program, chil-dren's choir and service ministries that take place in a family environment. Our testing scores are above the national average and above other Catholic Schools in the Archdio-cese. Dr. Mary Maloney and her staff of teach-ers and parent leadership are most proud of what they have accomplished through your support. Since 2014, security doors were installed along with a new office space for the principal, the school secretary and for the Director of Religious Education. The gym wall has been replaced, the gym floor refinished with a new sound system. Two sections of the school roof were replaced and an Enunciator panel and fire alarm system was installed, plus a new Public Address System for the entire school building. A new burner for the school boiler was also installed replacing the old one which was 50+ years old! Please spread the word that St. John Brebeuf School is on the move! Follow us on line at www.sjbrebeuf.org and follow the link to the school.

St. John Brebeuf Parishioners: St. John’s has been in discussions with Verizon Wireless and their tower development partner, Lendlease, regarding the possible construction of a 100’ flag pole style monopole communications tower at the south end of the school proper-ty. The current proposal includes the addition of a circular stu-dent drop off driveway at the south entrance of the school. The proposed flag pole tower would be placed at the center of the circular drive. A brick shed matching the school would be constructed against the existing south wall of the school building east of the entrance. As we know this proposal will generate many questions, we will be holding two informational meetings where Verizon’s site acquisition team members will be available to answer questions and address concerns. Both meetings will be held at 7 PM at the Father May Min-istry Center, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, IL. The first meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2018, and the second for January 25, 2018. Two dates were selected to accommodate those who may wish to attend, but have a conflict one of the nights. As both meetings will be identical in content, you only need to attend one. Those who cannot attend either meeting but still have ques-tions may reach out directly to Verizon’s site acquisition representative, Mark Layne, at [email protected], or 630-890-4514. Informational Meeting re. Communications Tower with Verizon Wireless and Lendlease Where: St. John Brebeuf, Father May Ministry Center, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, IL 60174 When: January 18 and January 25, 2018, 7 PM We look forward to seeing you in January!

Wieża łączności - Verizon Wireless i Lendlease

The Knights of Columbus wil l have an Honor Guard with

Our Lady of Guadalupe Image “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn and support those in crisis pregnancies.”

Starting on the weekend of January 6-7, we are again asking our parishioners to participate in this special fund-raiser to help women in crisis pregnancies by supporting the pro-life work of the Catholic-run Women's Cen-ters of Greater Chicagoland. Baby bottles will be found in main entrances of the church for you to take home and fill with spare change. Any checks should be made out directly to the The Women's Centers. Over the prior 12 years our parish has already raised over $221,000 which helped to save 227 babies, who are now living out their lives amongst us. Many of them in turn will have children of their own. Continuing in the spirit of Christmas, let our parishioners of all ages, including the children, work together to save even more little lives. Please return the bottles before any of the masses on the weekend of February 10-11. Please take one bottle per family. Extras will be available in the back of the church the next couple of weekends if you fill up your first one. Thank you for participating in this worthy cause.

WE PRAY TOGETHER Did you know that the lyrics of our hymns and songs are actually beautiful prayers selected specifically for that Mass? That makes our hymnal your prayer book! If you are self-conscious about singing, participate by opening the hymnal and praying the text of the hymn as others sing. The Church encourages our full and active partici-pation in the Holy Mass. When you sing, you encourage others to do the same. Please use the hymnal!

January 14-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time:

In the Gospel today, Jesus asks “What are

you looking for?” Often we are looking for happiness in very selfish ways, but we find that when we look for ways to make others happy, it is then that we truly become happy. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul poor box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering and you give them reason to believe and to trust. Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul? Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.
